The amazing level of personalization I can do with Yakuake is a given, as it is KDE software. Yakuake is unique in the way it handles the concept of terminal emulators. Yakuake quietly appears as an overlay and leaves my sight as soon as I want, with no interruptions or pressing Alt+Tab multiple times trying to figure out where my terminal window drifted in my stack of open windows. The blur background issue (wherein the terminal background should stay blurred, but it does not at multiple scenarios) made it a bit cumbersome to use for me, as I had to use a dark background with that issue. Using a dark background made it a bit jarring to call in Yakuake over my currently active window as a black curtain unfolded and folded everytime I wanted to use Yakuake. This was a few weeks ago when I was daily driving KDE Plasma with Yakuake, so, maybe it has been fixed already? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Yakuake: You might not like the change, but give it a few days of effort, it will certainly grow on you! Having a terminal quickly available by just a hotkey is very helpful! You won't have to dig through a whole stack of windows using Alt + Tab, just call Yakuake, do your thing, and send it away! (I made this gist consisting of all the commands I use for setting up a new Arch Linux installation: https://gist.github.com/tm9k1/d22508c05868e7eca578580e5ea86829 , it has yakuake in essential software section!) - Yakuake is best at being the thing it is - a terminal emulator that effortlessly glides in when I want a terminal, and fades away when I don't. It has helped me tons when I am following some tutorial or guide on something technical that needs a terminal in every five seconds or so! I set up Yakuake at Alt+T, and it always shows up consistently whenever I want a terminal! Separated from window manager policy, it is controlled by keyboard shortcut on every desktop without flickering. It's only good for horizontal screens. When using on vertical screens, it's too slow with animation effect. If not adopted animation effect, it looks little bit flickering. It helps make my presentation more exciting. I think the benefit is complete comprehension for the viewer. It took some effort for me to get comfortable using Yakuake. I wish there were more shortcuts because it is a little time consuming for me to get used to. Bugs are still present and more features should be implemented. Skins are supposed to be supported by Yakuake but I wasn't able to find any online or a menu that suggested the skins support. The truth is that Yakuake is cool and actually more practical than the conventional terminal emulators that were available for the GUI.
