## Xserver Reviews
  ### 1. Free & Open Display Server

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food & Beverages | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Xserver?**

The fact that XServer is open-source is the biggest positive it has, it started with pretty humble beginnings and has transformed over the years to a fully featured, low resource intensive, Display Server, able to run a window manager ( Graphical Display Interface) that offered users a alternative to CLI when using Linux kernels, In my opinion, X server played a integral role in the popularity and usability of Core Linux.

**What do you dislike about Xserver?**

It is not up to par with other (Non-Free) offerings, and its kind of difficult to implement, there is definitely a learning curve, but that is Linux for you, if you didn't want to learn and have the power to do anything, you would use windows.

**Recommendations to others considering Xserver:**

Xserver is the backbone of any Linux based Operating System, handling the GUI / Window system, it cant run without it or a similar program, unless you want strictly terminal based OS; but even then, it helps render and display. So get used to that manual and jump right in!

**What problems is Xserver solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The transformation from strictly CLI programs (Think the AS400; it was the classic black on green font) to being able to handle multiple "screens" when working with a terminal session. This is basically windows but in a terminal. The ability to have multiple screens open within such a session, greatly enhanced the productivity as it makes it easy to switch back and forth seamlessly between multiple threads without closing. hence introducing the background processes, this contributed to building a free and open source GUI, Loosening the grip Windows has on the OS market and allowing for real innovation and hopefully one day we will see a Linux based OS top both Mac & Windows. Without Xserver&Xorg this would not be possible.

  ### 2. The Xserver drives your Xwindows on *nix machines everywhere and has for 20+ years!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Xserver?**

It is a free, maintained solution providing the basis for *nix GUIs. I have used it my entire career for interacting with my *nix computers. I have used it on Red hat, opensuse, slackware, Solaris, and HPUX. I have used it with CRTs and LCDs. I have used it to display GUI screens over local lans as well as over the internet. I have used it with Nvidia, Matrox, Intel, and AMD video cards. It works everywhere!

**What do you dislike about Xserver?**

The current development of new features is slower than I would like to see. Multiple monitors with different DPIs cannot scale independently. When it goes wrong, it can be very difficult to sort out where the problem lies. I have spent hours fixing it when it doesn't work. It is such a fundamental part of using the computer that when it is gone, you are in trouble if you can't fix it from the command line.

**Recommendations to others considering Xserver:**

If you are going to run a GUI on a *nix machine, today you will be using X server. There are few other options available today.

**What problems is Xserver solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been able to controlling computers locally and remotely

  ### 3. The default Window manager for many linux operating systems.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Xserver?**

X server is the default window manager for linux, supported by the X.Org foundation. Most linux oeprating systems will either use x, or ubuntu is trying to move over to wayland.

We use x servers to have a single box serving out an application that will allow multiple folks to access and run.

**What do you dislike about Xserver?**

It works pretty quickly for linux desktop implementations. To remotely access a linux graphical application on a remote server via a mac or windows (or another linux box), it sometimes can be complicated to set up, and relies on network connection speeds.

**Recommendations to others considering Xserver:**

Xorg's Xserver is definitely a focused solution for running linux applications via the x windows protocol. Anyone who runs linux will likely be running X, unless they're running a different display server like wayland.

**What problems is Xserver solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Aside from running desktop linux for several of our developers, We have a secure pharmacy application that is used by several pharmacists, but is maintained by a third party company. This allows them to maintain the software, and for us to access it securely.

  ### 4. Basic system for your bitmap needs

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**What do you dislike about Xserver?**

There’s not much to dislike about this product. It’s well maintained and updated regularly.

**What problems is Xserver solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working in a Unix environment can be tricky for someone like myself who needs that visual leverage that you’d expect from a GUI interface.

  ### 5. Ex-Gnome user
