One minor point is that there is a bit of a learning curve to fully utilize all of the advanced features. While the basics are easy to grasp, it took me some time to get familiar with the more sophisticated settings and options. However, once you get the hang of it, the possibilities are impressive! It's robust but easy to navigate, it has a plethora or permissions to create a very complex system segmented over a large organization by department. Almost anything can be done with Rules if you take the time to figure it out. I worked as an integrator for years installing Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, Lenel video, etc, and as am end user now I still stick with Milestone for the forseeable future. I used Milestone every single day, full-time at work and running my home security system at home. Customer service is always available and eager to remote in and dive into whatever issue we may be having. Implementation is not too bad compared to some other camera or access control system, everything can be ran from one server if the system is small or the computer is robust enough. Downsides minor in my opinion, there are a few things I wish were available, such as a feature similar to "area access manager" in say Lenel that would allow a department to add user to their view groups but only their view groups. There are some features that would be easy to implement that I believe may be held out of updates because they are offered by a paid third party service (Boring Labs). There needs to be a way to easily run a report showing your cameras and how much storage they are consuming, features like that are heavily used as selling points for Boring Labs but realistically could just be included in Milestone. The view creation in Smart Client is fine, but customization is limited more than some competitors. Smart Wall is an option, but moving a major system from Avigilon to Milestone really highlighted the low variation in preset Milestone views compared to what was in place previously. From my experience i find Milestone very very comfortable and reliable to use for our company security system. I never faced any data loss in my working ever and its ai & analytics is just best.
