THREE times competitors -- but very much NOT three times better. A balance between profit and user value is greatly needed in my eyes... **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Legally required accounting reporting, some automation and integration with EFTPOS suppliers and accounants who insist we use it (otherwise, charge us for it even if we don't). ### 2. Yes, REDUCE PRICES. And REALLY NEED a possibility to export receipts and add receipts to invoices. It's a legal requirement and Xero is completely ignoring customer feedback in its community forums. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** I run my whole business on Xero, including billing and accounting. ### 3. Needs Work **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Sandra L. | Accounting & Office Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2025 **What do you like best about Xero?** The best part of Xero is that you can upload your documents very easily. **What do you dislike about Xero?** It would be nice to be able to add project information or misc tracking information even if an invoice is closed. Also, credit memos with a balance dated in a month end closure period, you cant use unless you re-open your month end. While it continues to make improvements, it tries to hard to keep all customer interface the same across the board however, when dealing with international customers outside the US, it is very uncompatible. The time it takes to figure out reports and which reports you can print is not good. There isnt a PO report available which seems completely crazy. Xero is continuing to improve but, they need to set the bar and the pace higher. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Avalara interfaces with the tax in Xero, this is a very nice feature. It’s gets us paid mostly **What do you dislike about Xero?** The forms are inconsistent which means you have to look in different places for the buttons depending on what form you are on. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use it for all our quotes and invoices and purchase orders. **Official Response from Xero:** > Hi Timothy, thanks for taking the time to share your review. Dissapointing, Xero support is very poor, you can't get to speak to a person easily at all **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Rachel O. | Sales & Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2024 **What do you like best about Xero?** I used to like using Xero about 2 years ago and then you started changing things, e.g. quotes and contact details without any warning and they are now more cumbersome to use and take much much longer - more key strokes, it was better the way it was. **What do you dislike about Xero?** The lack of interest in engaging and actually listening to your customers. These current changes you are promoting don't have the basic functionality of the current version. e.g. tracked inventory needs to show the actual available inventory in both quotes and invoicing. Please stop making changes that are unneccesary. If it aint broke don't fix it! All you are doinng is annoying your users and giving us reason to start taking a look around for alternative soft ware. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** You are making more problems for us with all the changes you have made and are rolling out on the 20th of November. I've asked for the CEO's details to contact her to escalate my concerns and this has been ignored. ### 7. Good software. Not used other accounting software so hard to compare. **What do you dislike about Xero?** Constant price increases make it hard to work with, and since they are a core part of our business applications, it is hard to trust that they won't keep doing it. Its intuitive. Its responsive. It's agile. It just does what it's supposed to do without being overly complex in most areas. Bar payroll of course. **What do you dislike about Xero?** This price increase is unjustified and I don't think it's worth what the product provides. $80 a month is now what most people will pay and that's just not worth it. When it comes to quality we'll have to start looking at what we can offer our clientelle for a similar price point. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** It helps me connect to my clients. ### 9. If you've used accounting software before, you will be able to learn how it works quickly. **What do you dislike about Xero?** There is no phone support if you have a problem. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Low cost for use, which is a benefit to start ups. It has alot of features similar to QuickBooks Online. ### 10. Good for very early stage - lacks functionality of QBO **Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2021 **What do you like best about Xero?** Simple product - easy to use for invoicing and general ledger accounting. **What do you dislike about Xero?** If you are looking for a plug and play GL - you should go with QBO which has better functionality for the same cost. One of the limitations for basic accounting software is the limited processes that can happen within the product. You will need to integrate other softwares to make it function for you in the long term and Xero is less adopted for APIs. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Invoicing, Accounting. We stopped using it and switched to QBO. **Official Response from Orange Girl:** > Thanks for letting us know your experience even though you've moved on from Xero. We want Xero to have a good core platform of accounting features and have had an open API from the start to allow more specialist apps to plug in so that business owners can essentially create their own suite of apps to run their business if they need a process beyond basic accounting functions. This also allows us to provide a platform that can serve the massive breadth of industry and business types. I'm sorry Xero didn't work out for you, and thanks again for the comments. ### 11. It seemed easier to use than our older clunkier systems, like Excel spreadsheets, or older versions of Quickbooks. **What do you dislike about Xero?** Porting over data from our spreadsheet or from Clio was a nightmare and would never reconcile. Getting help at first was very problematic as it was in New Zealand. We stopped using it after about a year or two as it was making our accounting for our law firm more cumbersome, confusing and complex. They did try to help us resolve our integration issues but then we seemed to be caught in a situation where each softwares' support teams was telling us it was the other sides issue. **Recommendations to others considering Xero:** If you are just starting Xero seems to be more helpful and is getting more integrated with Legal timekeeping like Clio. We did not use it on its own and I am not familiar with how it may be helpful in other industries. If you are a legacy or older user of some software it may not integrate fully or efficiently and you may be expected to manually reconcile years worth of data to get an accurate picture of your finances. They may have fixed this since we stopped using it, however. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Well none currently. As with any payroll or accounting function they are written for people coming from a current system, so what may seem intuitive for them is unusable or overly buggy to us. ### 12. Everything is available on mobile, And your accountant can login to see your activity in real time, which is cool. **What do you dislike about Xero?** The software is anything but beautiful. Let’s be honest, Excel is prettier that their platform. Xero is boxy at best and doesn’t have the reporting functionality of something like Google Sheets. Best for small businesses. **Recommendations to others considering Xero:** Think about what you really needs from your software first. And when you’re spending too much time trying to implement it, remember that sometimes it’s the software... not you. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Doing basic accounting and tracking funds flow. ### 13. They lie and send erroneous information. They also have poor internal controls so when there is a system malfunction, they want to blame it on the customer. Worst of all when you take them up on their short-comings, they go into overdrive and in my case, they even tried to run my credit without my EXPLICIT consent. Even Banks would ask you nicely! **Recommendations to others considering Xero:** Unhelpful customer service wanting to shift the blame of a buggy system onto a customer and making outrageous requests. They even try to run your credit without your consent. They tried it with me. I wonder when such a company with great potential started hiring slimy managers that try to operate dubiously. **What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Account reconciliation and reports is a breeze. They still have very poorly trained customer service reps. ### 14. No changes, updates or improvements except at the high end obviously for their favouritre "large" customers. Then they implement price increases on the lowend users who've received no improvements at all **Recommendations to others considering Xero:** make a lit of your top 5 most important requirements and ask the community first.
