## Xero Reviews
  ### 1. Xero Sux - Find a better alternative

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sam A. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Xero?**

It's really the only thing available for small businesses in NZ - but it's an overpriced piece of rubbish

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

How freaking slow it is when navigating - Especially the phone App! The app is horrendous. Xero is so old-school, with not having much AI at all integrated, that it's very much a rule-based system that constantly gets things wrong during reconciliation. I've used Xero for about 10 years - And I feel like it was faster to use back 10 years ago. They constantly put up the price too. I'm waiting for a great alternative that uses AI more. I'm only venting here because once again while trying to send an invoice is stalled and said 'couldn't save' aghhh useless.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for all my book work and have my accountant use it for end-of-year and gst stuff.

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Hi Sam, we’re sorry to hear that Xero hasn’t been meeting your expectations, especially after you've been with us for so long. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and we’ll make sure this is passed on to the right teams. If there is anything else we can assist with, please raise a case via Xero Central and one of the support team will be in touch.

  ### 2. Promising price and XERO integration, but clunky UI, inventory limits

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Xero?**

So far, I liked the introductory price and the promises about what it can do. I also like that the software I use for managing students and staff reservations for lessons is working to integrate with XERO.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Extremely difficult to navigate, especially working with inventory, finding the register for my checking account, finding my vendor list, and finding items on trouble shooting descriptions that don't match what actually shows up on the screen. Also, the "Inventory Plus" integration does not do what was claimed. It said it would bundle multiple products in a package for sale but didn't mention any limit on the number of multiple products. However, it wouldn't let me enter more than 10 items. The help desk was NO help. "Its not supposed to do that." didn't fix the problem.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its supposed to be the best at solving a sales tax issue I had with QuickBooks and it may do that, but I haven't gotten the program to work correctly in other areas so I'm not confident that it will properly assess sales taxes either.

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Thank you for your feedback. We'd love to be able to help but would appreciate some more detail. Please raise a case via Xero Central, quoting any previous case numbers, and one of the support team will be in touch.

  ### 3. Its just a hype. Its awful accounting software. Trust me

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Khunshan A. | Ceo, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Xero?**

I liked how Xero branded itself as a SaaS accounting software, and integrations it provided.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Its an awful product. I can tell you the code architecture is not good, and that is why I think they have lot of bugs in system. The system fails even when I get a PayPal transaction. They charge you for features which are basic, but the fact is their basic features are broken. Their support is just to give you therapy hey do not be upset.

The UI, yea its beautiful, but the reason is its a SaaS and based on probably .net framework that has itself very beautiful views and widgets. It is not something they have invented something in Xero the way they boast "Beautiful Business".

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero is helping with invoices but it is not a modern tool honestly in my opinion.

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Hi Khunshan,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

We're pleased to hear that you're enjoying the UI and the variety of integrations available on Xero. It's also great to know that Xero is proving helpful with your invoicing tasks.

We're sorry however to hear that Xero isn't aligning with your specific requirements at this time. We know how important it is to find the right fit for your business, and we recognise that what works for one user may not work for another. We have taken your feedback - along with the details from your recent support interactions - on board for our team to review.

We are always looking for ways to improve, and we would value your specific input on this. If you have a moment, please share your suggestions directly with our team on the Xero Product Ideas portal - https://productideas.xero.com/

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

  ### 4. Terrible experience. Saving money vs QuickBooks is only helpful if there is an ACTUAL PRODUCT

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cat S. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Xero?**

I wouldn't know- I can't log in! So far the answer is NOTHING

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

There is NO customer support. I recently purchased their software, but I can’t log in—and if you can’t log in, you can’t get support to help you log in. On top of that, it also means you can’t cancel your subscription.

I did receive an email offering to let me schedule time with support, but the earliest option was in three weeks! This company is a piece of junk.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero is STEALING MY MONEY

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Hi Cat, we appreciate you raising this with us. We can appreciate how frustrating that must be!

We have escalated this to our Support team and have someone reaching out to you to help you.

If you ever have a login issue in the future, you can enter your email address here: https://central.xero.com/s/contact-support-login - and one of our support specialists will be in touch to help you.

  ### 5. Poor Customer Service with Promising Plans.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eddy B. | Broker/Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Xero?**

There was nothing I liked about xero. The company promised half off the first 3 months and did not follow through

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Customer service was very bad. You have to message and then wait for them to message back to you. Was promised half off for the first three months and never received that. Initial setup was not easy at all.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Hi Eddy, thanks for your honest feedback - we're sorry to hear about your experience. Our customer support team aim to work through requests as quickly as possible. We appreciate you taking the time to share where things aren’t meeting expectations, and we’ll make sure your feedback is passed on to the right teams. If there is anything else we can assist with, please raise a case via Xero Central and one of the support team will be in touch - you can request a call back from them if you'd prefer to discuss over the phone as well. Thanks again.

  ### 6. Effortless Accounting, Easy to Use

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shabeeb H.

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

I find Xero to be a straightforward and user-friendly platform, which I got accustomed to quickly. Its ease of use makes handling my business's accounting tasks, such as invoicing and payment tracking, efficient and stress-free. I appreciate that it allows me to effectively track my invoices, identify any discrepancies like missing payments, and ensure everything is in order, which proved extremely helpful in resolving a recent payment issue with a client. Additionally, setting it up didn't take too much effort, making the initial integration smooth. Incorporating Stripe for client payments has been a valuable new feature for me, offering a seamless process for financial transactions.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Costs

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Xero for tracking invoices, accounting, and receiving payments. It helps resolve disputes, such as confirming if payments are received, making my business operations smoother.

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Thank you for your review, Shabeeb. We're glad to hear that Xero has made handling your business's accounting tasks efficient and stress-free. We appreciate your support!

  ### 7. Highly overrated

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Xero *was* a well-designed and thoughtfully planned software.
The setup process is straightforward, and it’s very easy to use day-to-day.
Navigating through transactions or generating reports is simple and intuitive, making it accessible even for those who aren’t accountants.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

There is a desperate lack of customer support, especially if you encounter an issue or have a complaint.
Xero seems more focused on making the software “beautiful” rather than listening to user feedback. Many highly requested features have sat on the forums with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of votes, yet there is little to no response from Xero. On top of this, prices keep increasing—often multiple times a year. It also feels like Xero is more interested in driving revenue through third-party integrations; core features are left out so that users are pushed toward paying for additional apps via their API ecosystem.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero works well as a basic accounting package. It’s intuitive to use, helps us complete our quarterly BAS with minimal hassle, and gives our accountant direct access whenever we have a query or when it’s time to prepare the annual tax return. However, Xero does not provide the ability to prepare your own tax return, and with the constant price increases it becomes hard to justify. While other software may not be quite as intuitive, many offer the same end results at a much more reasonable cost.

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We'd love to understand the issue you raised and our support response in greater detail, thanks for bringing that to our attention. To help you with this, we need to access some of your account details, which we can't do here. Can you please raise a case via Xero Central and one of the team will get in touch?

  ### 8. Xero enshittification and dark patterns

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2024

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Xero has massively increased prices and added very little of value.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Xero is increasing prices to Accountants by charging developers for API access from 2026 onwards. Xero is leveraging access to our data, not Xero's data, to charge developers who build tools that accountants use. Developers will have to pass this onto their clients, who likely already pay Xero for their expensive software.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero provides cloud accounting software to my tax practice clients for their businesses.

  ### 9. Simple to Set Up, But Bank Integration Falls Short

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adrien J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Xero?**

I like the simplicity of Xero. The initial setup was easy.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

The bank feed integration with our bank named DBS does not work as advertised, as the information available in DBS comes truncated inside of Xero.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Xero for accounting, appreciating its simplicity.

  ### 10. Despicable business model

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Easy to use accounting tool for small businesses with great reporting feature

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

We have been using Xero for a while now. But over the past 3 years Xero has been increasing their price almost twice a year!!! It’s meant to be a software for small businesses but the constant price hike for existing customers are just bad practice!! I would have understood if this was done once and we get to reflect the hike on the software feature or performance, but no!! The price increase is just pushed down loyal customer’s throats with no added benefit to us!! Really bad practice!!

Would not recommend Xero to any small businesses!

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The software itself is great. Easy to use. We manage our business’s entire financial dealings within Xero. Their reporting features is excellent. Great for small and medium busynesses. But their bad practice if price hiking for existing users with no added benefit makes it very unsuitable for small businesses as it stands!!

  ### 11. Two Price Increases in a year

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Collette L. | Production and Post Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

It works and It used to be good for the price.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Now it's just as bad and there's next to no customer service. Good luck if you need a speaking person on the phone it will take at least 2 days. I switched because the price was good now they're price gouging and I'm pissed. Looking for another alternative. I use it for absolute basic functions. Nothing fancy, mostly tracking. I have a business account and a personal and FU for now charging me $600/year.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was charging me less than Quickbooks and now you're just as terrible as they are but with less customer service.

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Hi Collette, thanks for sharing this feedback. We'd love to understand more regarding your concerns. To help you with this, we need to access some of your account details, which we can't do here. Can you please raise a case in Xero Central, quoting any previous case number/s so that we can look into what happened with the slow response from our support team.

  ### 12. More Expensive, Less Functional: Why I Can’t Recommend Xero Anymore”

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Xero has a clean, user-friendly interface that makes day-to-day bookkeeping simple, even for non-accountants. It integrates well with a wide range of third-party apps and platforms, which is helpful for automating tasks like payments, payroll, and reporting. The ability to access everything from the cloud is also a major convenience.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Over recent years, subscription fees have steadily increased, yet there’s been little to no meaningful improvement in functionality, especially for users on lower-tier plans like Grow. In fact, some critical features — like auto super payments — were removed and only recently announced as being reintroduced. Even then, the rollout has been vague and poorly communicated. I was only made aware of a supposed July 1 start date through my accountant — Xero’s own support staff couldn’t confirm anything

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integration of all of the above

**Official Response from Xero:**

> Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear you find the clean, user-friendly interface and the wide range of integrations to be so valuable for your business. We also appreciate you taking the time to share your experience on those other points. If you'd like to discuss further, please raise a case with our Xero Support team.

  ### 13. Horrible invoicing

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt J. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Nothing. It's really bad now. They don't listen to customers. A bunch of people working there trying to re invent the wheel to keep themselves in a job.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Horrible invoicing. They had great invoicing which was easy to use and business like mine got very efficient at using and now this new version is costing business so much time. They have tons of bad feedback but won't listen to their customers. A bunch of people trying to re invent the wheel just to keep themselves in a job with absolutely no care for their customers.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero have never solved problems but they didn't used to create them either. Now however they cause problems. They had great invoicing which was easy to use and business like mine got very efficient at using and now this new version is costing business so much time. They have tons of bad feedback but won't listen to their customers. A bunch of people trying to re invent the wheel just to keep themselves in a job with absolutely no care for their customers.

  ### 14. No refunds, bad integrations

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Simple to use software, basic features, filing BAS is straightforward

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Integration with existing Stripe accounts is non-existent. Their software is incredibly basic. Customer service is unhelpful. They will copy and paste the same reply over and over again without reading your question. They don't offer refunds, even if you call them up on the day of your renewal.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accounting. It's not benefiting me because the software barely works.

  ### 15. Not GAAP Compliant

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Xero?**

A more traditional (old school) UI/UX that results in fewer clicks and more information on the screen.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Compared to any of its competitors, it has the fewest security features. Roles are basically extremely limited or access to everything. You can't have GAAP compliant workflows like you can with QBO and others. Best for solopreneurs only.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is holding back our accounting team and causing issues.

  ### 16. Used for 12 years. This used to be a great product. I feel like it's past the point of no return now

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keith P. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Xero?**

The memories of how good it used to be, and the lessons learned about how terrible it is now.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

New changes are force-fed to customers whilst still in beta or alpha, with no opt-out
Prices have gone up repeatedly
Features used everyday have been removed
The new user interface is bloated and requires more work
Keyboard shortcuts/entry have been removed
Support don't seem to care and just give canned responses
The interface just gets laggier every month

This used to be a great product, but since ~2022 it's just slipped further and further backwards.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Day to day accounts

  ### 17. Expect constant large price rises and features removed

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Xero?**

It's fairly well designed and easy-to-use software but it's not worth the very high price anymore

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Last few years there have been price rises every year, at least 5-10%. Some years there have been two! Meanwhile, very little actual product improvement happens. The user interface gets little refreshes but long-standing bugs are not fixed and long-standing feature requests are not implemented.

Now (from 1st July 2024), they have removed payroll completly from the starter plan, so you have to go on to a plan that costs (quite literally) more than double to retian it. Same story for the higher plans, the number of payroll users has halved so you have to go on to a much more expensive plan to get what you have before. They claim "most features get more for what they pay" but seems to me every teir has only had features removed, as well as a 10% increase,

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need accounting software and Xero is accounting software! Just unfortunately it's not good value anymore for what you get.

  ### 18. Stay away from Xero

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2024

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Easy to use software and relatively clean and straightforward UI.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

There are many little important features that are present in competitor products but not in Xero. Look through the forums and you'll see nothing but countless disgruntled customers complaining about why certain features aren't present, and Xero has absolutely no plans to implement what their customers ask for.

They also constantly hike up their prices. They justify this by saying that they pledge to improve the platform but the same issues have been around for YEARS.

The reality is that they increase prices because they know that their loyal customers will not migrate to their competitors due to the immense time, money and work that will be required to perform the migration.

Their customer support is also rubbish.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If you look through the Xero forums you will see clear as day that there are many issues that have been voted highly by users. However, Xero is notorious for not fixing issues, they will not add highly requested features that are present in other platforms or fix current issues.

  ### 19. Used to be good, now overpriced and getting worse

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Once you start with Xero it's easy to add additional businesses and new accounts (for additional subscription fees of course).

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Xero introduces new features that have never been asked for (eg. "New" invoicing), but dozens of high priority improvements abcs bug fixes remain perpetually undelivered.

To make matters worse, Xero has regularly raised prices, to the point where it now costs my business thousands of dollars a year just to maintain accounting and payroll functionality (we have to use a separate subscription for scheduling etc).

Recent substantial price increases have increased my motivation as the business owner to take our business elsewhere. There are more affordable options that by all accounts do not treat their longstanding clients with contempt.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One touch payroll was mandated by the government and has been delivered by Xero.

  ### 20. Now overpriced and not worth the money

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2024

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Xero used to be a good bookkeepping package - clean, simple and straightforward. I could correct client's records really easy

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Xero keeps introducing half baked beta "improvements" that need more clicks and have less functionality than was originally there (or all the competitoirs have). They also keep increasing their prices - from September 2024 they will be an overpriced software. i am now lloking for alternatives and will move any client that complains about Xero's price increases. Enough is enough!

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero used to be a good intergrated accounts package - linking your bank account to their software but after the September 2024 price increase it will be too expensive and not worth it

  ### 21. Bad software and no regard for users.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2024

**What do you like best about Xero?**

The product was fine in 2023 but then they began forcing upgraded solutions they were full of bugs.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

The new invoicing solution is horrible. It's full of bugs and they have not listened to years.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None.

  ### 22. Xero is functionally easy to use BUT their commercial practices leave a great deal to be desired.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bob A. | Founder and Chief Outcomes Officer, Consulting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Xero is functionally easy to use but their commercial practices leave a great deal to be desired.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

They keep hiking prices for existing users thinking they have them trapped and that we will continue to subscribe because of the pain of migration.
Trying to justify the increases because of "added value" functionality is just a smokescreen because if the added features are useful, they are simply an added and unwanted cost.
Within an hour of being informed of an enforced price rise, I got another email from them telling me they were pissing $750k away on some vanity marketing project.
They need to get their priorities right, and fast...

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basic accounting for a small consulting business. Functionally OK but commercially intolerable.

  ### 23. Xero is a trap

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2023

**What do you like best about Xero?**

At the outset, it seems incredibly helpful across invoicing and accounting.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

The customer service is terrible. There are threads on their help pages with hundreds of customers complaining about terrible features – or functionality they're desperate to have, dating back years. Xero seems to do zero about it.

When you finally get through to them, they're unbelievably unhelpful. Their expenses plugin was expensive and a total farce – it was hard for my team to onboard, kept insisting that we needed to offer mileage, and also kept crashing to the extent that I couldn't invite my whole team. We killed it and switched to Zoho, which was effortless.

Small things are super irritating – I have to do a 2-factor auth pretty much every time I log in, even on the same day, on the same device, and after ticking a box that says, remember this browser. Why have the box if it doesn't work?

The reports are awkward, I have everything exported to Gsheets so we can organise them properly.

The multicurrency functionality is again expensive and doesn't work well. It's extremely difficult to run a single entity with clients in multiple countries.

And the problem is that it would be unbelievably painful to get off Xero because our whole sales history – and forward bookings – are already in there.

It's a trap.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's great for invoicing. It was great when we were a smaller business without clients overseas paying in foreign currency. I thought it would be better to run payroll and expenses through the one platform but that was a disaster. We're now just back to invoicing and accounts, and manually working around all the problems Xero creates.

  ### 24. UX is a trainwreck. Made for accountants not businesses.

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sam T. | Founder and Chief Executive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Nice name, I guess. G2 requires that more nice things are written here.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Utterly unusable for businesses. It's for accountants, but accountants don't pay for it - they pass on the cost to businesses, for whom Xero is an efficient value and time destroying machine. No reports. Nested menus. Convoluted access control making delegating repetitive tasks impractical or impossible. The UI looks like it's from the early 2000s and the hopeless UX is from a planet that apparently has no humans.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our accountants find it useful for number crunching. I find it useful for nothing.

  ### 25. A company that cares more about UI rather than features actually working

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Hate the not caring or listening to customers attitude.
Doesnt care about customers, does not listen to customers, so many features broken from last so many years, all of the attention given to UI instead of actual features

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Multi factor authentication
Broken features

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filing taxes

  ### 26. Xero is a cumbersome accounting software that you will end up being stuck with

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ali A. | General Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2023

**What do you like best about Xero?**

The main feature that drew me to Xero at the very start was the ability to sync my bank accounts and credit card transactions!

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Very cumbersome! Suddenly balances may start unmatching. Could take many hours to figure out what went wrong! They keep hiking monthly subscription costs

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's supposed to help me with my accounting, but it ended up making me play catchup for 5 years

**Official Response from Orange Girl:**

> I'm sorry to see Xero is setting you back and that is obviously not our intention. Bank feeds are indeed supposed to streamline your daily bookkeeping activities. There are a few reasons why the bank feed and balance in Xero could get out of sync and I hope our support team has been able to help with this? If you've not yet raised a query with them, please do so that they can get everything on track so that you can just do daily reconciliation > https://central.xero.com/services/auth/sso/Xero/?startURL=/s/contact-support Thanks.

  ### 27. Stay away - broken bank feeds mean Xero is a glorified spreadsheet

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heidi Y. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Xero?**

It used to work on basic bookkeeping but now bank feed don't work.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

3rd party integration to pull in the bank feeds has been down for over 2 months. Customer service has no ETA on resolving the issue. This is the primary benefit of Xero over its competitors and it's no longer working. So at this point Xero is a glorified spreadsheet.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing

**Official Response from Orange Girl:**

> I'm sorry to see this and I need to know the specific bank and where the issue is occurring for context and to provide further comment - however, I am glad you are in touch with our support team.

Unless their advice is to NOT import the statement manually, then you can still do this and from that point on Xero will allow you to record and reconcile as if the feed had come automatically. So that it can be more than a spreadsheet!

We certainly want you to have a seamless experience between your bank and Xero and our support team can keep you updated on the issue. Again, I'm sorry to see there's an issue here.

  ### 28. Shockingly bad customer service

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Xero used to have valuable functionality around 3rd party integrations that helped automate our accounting processes - but this is no longer available.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Xero has completely stopped working due to a 3rd party vendor they use for several months. They've been in business for ~15 years and do not run their own bank integrations. We are not able to perform bookeeping, tax planning, projections, analysis, or any of the core functions we pay for. They do not seem to be fixing the problem or even care much about it.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

I would seriously consider other options with more robust customer service before moving forward with Xero. We have wasted hundreds of hours trying to solve problems that should be solvable in 1-2 days.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Xero for accounting.

**Official Response from Orange Girl:**

> I'm not sure what you mean by 3rd party integrations no longer being available - perhaps you were using an add-on app that no long integrates itself to Xero.

Sorry to see our support process is disappointing you. We want to help you as quickly as possible which is why typing a question into Xero Central displays some best fit questions and answers right away, with the option to come through to our support team if those don't help. Our support team can also give you a call if you detail in your query the urgency, your number and as much information as you can about the issue. Thanks.

17 Nov 2022
I can see you have edited this review but I am not sure of the update and would like to follow up. Please tell me the 'CX' case/support ref number from the support query you have raised with our team. Thanks.

  ### 29. Disappointed with the product

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Xero?**

- Set up was easy
- lower cost than alternatives
- plenty of integrations
- sales team were helpful

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

- The UI was very clunky, especially the invoice feature. Since this is a new SaaS product i was expecting a much cleaner interface
- The integration with my bank (Novo) wasn't very good. It didn't pick up the vendors name in transactions, so I had to manually add each vendor as a contact and then manually reconcile each transaction or create bank rules. This was tedious. Quickbooks handled that automatically
- The integration with gocardless wasn't very clear and it didn't flag up a potential ACH limit, which rendered the feature useless to me.
- Method for contacting support wasnt as good as other products

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bookkeeping
cashflow and profit statements
invoicing
accepting payments

  ### 30. Not intuitive

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Professional Training & Coaching | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Xero?**

I liked that Xero's wording is more for the business owner and not just for the bookkeeper or accountant. It was more easy to understand what was what.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

I didn't care for the layout of Xero or the marking of everything as an invoice. Also, reconciling was often very labor intensive and not clear.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

Do QuickBooks instead.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I thought I was solving the problem of finding good accounting software, but the only benefit really was hubdoc.

  ### 31. What is customer service?

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert E. | CFO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Xero?**

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Their customer service is extremely poor

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it for our accounting and payroll software

**Official Response from Orange Girl:**

> I'm sorry our customer support has disappointed you. But appreciate the call out. -OG

  ### 32. In Japan? Don't use xero.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Takako O. | Co-Founder, CEO | Panalyt Japan, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Xero?**

The color scheme is easy for the eyes. That's the only thing I can recommend about xero.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

When sending out invoices to clients, it garbles the text in Japanese. What's worse, the preview looks fine - so it made us look very bad to clients who recieved messed up invoices.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero is creating more problems for us than solving.

  ### 33. Was great when I first started but now I'm realizing I've made a mistake.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2018

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Accounting was probably the most intimidating part of starting a business for the first time. I went with Xero because it looked less intimidating than QBO at the time and it supported payroll in my state for a very good rate. $29 for accounting with payroll up to 5 employees. Of all the features, payroll felt the most well thought out and complete.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

As business grew I noticed most features felt unpolished and were lacking functionality that would make them feel complete. To add the functionality that you expect would have been built in required several apps each with their own monthly fee.

Some examples
- You can see a list of your recurring invoices but you can't get a total unless you use a calculator or sign up for a separate monthly service.
- late payment reminders don't go to the invoice recipient. They go to the main contact. This caused a huge problem with our customers as we assumed invoice reminders were going to the right people.
- can convert quote to invoice but not to repeating invoice.
- can't show passed due amount in current invoice
- navigation doesn't always take you to the right screen after you complete an action
- Why are my credit cards accounts listed when selecting paid to on invoices?
- support is abysmal, send an email and wait a couple of days for response.
- easy to migrate to xero as you can import a quickbooks file but no such

There's more but you get the point.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Xero recently sent out an email indicating they are eliminating payroll and we must start using Gusto or another service. In addition the $29 product sees no reduction in price or added features which effectively triples the cost. That now makes them more expensive than QBO and not even close to being as robust. So this will be our last year with xero as we move to QBO.

Suggestion if someone from xero leadership reads this. Maybe stop throwing parties all over the world and focus on the product a little more.

  ### 34. Very expensive and removal of existing functionality for chargeable alternative

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danny D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Xero?**

The system works well - I've been using the package since around 2011/2 and rarely had a technical problem.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

They approach their existing customers with contempt and greed - price increases with no new features, then they take away existing features and replace with chargeable alternatives. They also have the most useless starter package that I believe is of little use to the smallest of companies due to the restrictions imposed, forcing nearly all active companies to pay for their middle package (rich in features that small companies may not need) at the very least. When things do go wrong, their support is generally pretty poor.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

Consider other packages. Xero has taken its customers very much for granted and appears to be headed towards a direction of milking customers for as much money as possible. The problem is, it is very difficult migrating data away into another package, once you are set up with Xero (although to be fair, all accounting packages appear to have the same challenges), so they have you over a barrel. Only, I have now given notice and am leaving!

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accounting in realtime.

  ### 35. Disgusting tactics now being employed. We aware. It could be very costly.

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ray W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Overall, Xero is a great Accounting package. But, their recent and very shifty and deceptive decision to remove core features and start offering them as add-ons is disgusting.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Until recently, there wasn't much I didn't like. I probably couldn't name anything, apart from the somewhat dated UI - but that's a stretch.

Recently however, Xero have taken a core feature (Expenses) and starting selling it as an add-on, on top of the monthly subscription fee.

Expenses as you may know, and would expect, is 'included' in the monthly subscription and formed part of the core software. There was no additional charge. They've recently updated the Expenses feature (which they should be doing anyway) and now believe that because they've updated it, that warrants it being pulled from core and sold separately as an add-on.

As a current subscriber, I signed up for the all inclusive package. Having features ripped from the core package and charged for in addtion to the monthly subscription is not on. Especially when no discount or reduction of the monthly subscription cost was offered.

As a SaaS provider, any and all future updates, regardless of how big or small they are, should form part of the monthly subscription.

Choosing an accounting package is a big decision and once you're committed, it's difficult and often costly to change. With Xero now employing this kind of model, I'd caution anyone considering Xero to think again, think hard.

Today it's Expenses, tomorrow it could be something else.

These disgusting tactics employed by Xero are unacceptable.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

With their recent and very shifty move to start removing core features and start charging for them as add-ons in addition to the full monthly subscription costs, I'd very carefully consider Xero. At any time they are likely to remove other core features and start charging them. It could be a costly exercise.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basic accounting.

  ### 36. Tired UI and a lack of implimenting user-requested features

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darius F. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2018

**What do you like best about Xero?**

It's comprehensive, no doubt about that. I know many people running their businesses on Xero and as far as an online accounting platform goes, it does the job

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Primarily, their lack of implementing user-requested features. If you head on over to their user community forum you will see hundreds of requests, with hundreds of comments voicing support, for various features which have gone ignored for YEARS.

Recently, Xero took to removing the dates from the user forum, no doubt because it looked bad having requests from 2005 be constantly bumped to the top of the forum evert week. Always the comments are the same: "Hey, I came here with the same issue! We would like to be able to change the default naming of invoice PDFs that are sent via Xero. Cant believe this was first requested in 2005!"

This is the same for a large number of seemingly simple features, including PDF naming, invoice email templates and invoice line-item notations.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

If you have a high standard for how your invoicing and brand looks when using Xero to interact with customers via invoicing etc, then you are probably better getting dedicated invoicing software. If you are a small business, there are better cheaper options available. And if you expect to be able to make feature requests for software that you are paying for, then you will want to find another product.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple. Easy bookkeeping and reporting, invoicing etc.

  ### 37. I liked Xero a lot ... 5 years ago

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Ease of use. Integration with banking and company credit cards.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Expensive: $30 / month. No new features in 5 years. And now they have removed an existing feature---expense claims and reimbursement---a feature I use every week, and are re-offering the feature as a paid add-on! WTF Xero?!

It's time to switch accounting packages.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

Go elsewhere. Xero has become a graveyard product. They are no longer adding features to compete for new business. Instead they are leaving the product as it stand and charging more and more for it.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accounting for my small business.

  ### 38. Xero too expensive

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2018

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Simple to use, made business tasks easyer

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

The price has increased out of small businesses price range.
There's nolonger a plan for sole traders or small business. The starter plan also dose not allow for growth with a limit on quotes.
Also the invoices and transactions are limited so much so, business can't be achieved, so it's just a paid test trial.

Leaving us to use the middle plan that has features small business don't need with a huge cost.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At tax filing time, reports can be simply printed out and sent in.
We can see how business is ticking along with charts.
However all other online accounting software offer the exact same thing.

  ### 39. Product Good - Vendor Relationships Such As Stripe Terrible

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott D. | Assistant Professor, Higher Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Software is graceful and easy to use. There is a lot of horsepower available, but unfortunately, will have to stop using the software because of the credit card processing vendor charging my customers but not paying us.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

There choice of vendors, specifically Stripe credit card processing, ends up being a poor reflection for Xero. Stripe has over $16,000 of our money and we have received $0. XERO will not help in contacting Stripe. When I contacted XERO support, they said I had to speak to Stripe. I told them I had tried 5 times with no response, they said XERO couldn't help.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

Be careful on any recommended vendors by Xero - QC appears lacking.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Billing systems. Billing process is smooth, we just don't get paid!

  ### 40. Seek other options

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Animation | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Xero?**

It does stuff well enough. But in terms of comparing it to other options ... they offer the bare minimum.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Lack of useful functionality, lack of responsive support. The Xero team seem more interested in gaining new customers than listening to existing/paying customers, or implementing effective tools to make a better product.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

Look at other options

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing small design studio, staff, invoicing, Profit and loss statements etc. general internal accounting

  ### 41. Bank feed doesn't work and help desk said problem could persist indefinitely

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in International Trade and Development | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2016

**What do you like best about Xero?**

I own a small business with 1 employee and decided to go with Xero cause it had great reviews and seemed like a good user friendly option. Nice features are tax payment reminders and creating rules for certain transactions to make reconciliation faster as you go on.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Unfortunately, after using Xero for two months the bank feed stopped working. After going back and forth with Zero support for about a month they finally called me and told me that my problem was a known one that affects a handful of Xero users and at this time they have no workable solution for my account except recommend I manually import my bank transactions indefinitely, because they pretty much had no solution to my problem. I was told it could take days, or months or even never to resolve the problem. Had I known this would happen I would have gone with Quickbooks. When I asked if I could receive a discount on my service since it was handicapped they offered 30 days free for the month it took them to tell me they couldn't fix my problem but otherwise could not offer any further discounts.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

This software may work for some businesses, but there are very few accountants or on-line accounting services that offer support for Xero users. The fact there is a known bug with no knowable time-line for fixing it is deplorable. Even worse is asking using users to forego the most important feature of Xero - it's user friendliness. I cannot in good faith recommend this program to anyone.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None, I hate the software.

  ### 42. Unfortunately don't recommend for quickly growing business

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ralf K. | Executive Team Leader and owner, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2015

**What do you like best about Xero?**

Xero is quite useful and despite accounting not being my best side as a small business owner I can pull out quite a lot of data that is easily understandable. It's easy to use and money reconciliation with direct connection to bank saves a lot of time.

**What do you dislike about Xero?**

Unfortunately Xero is for only sole traders or people who do small / tiny business and don't care about growth. Xero support is beyond bad, there's no phone support and emails are usually answered after a day or two. In case where the business is literally running on its toes, growing quickly and need to adapt very quickly to any change, lack of support is a deal breaker.
There's also a few things that are really confusing (like attaching a file to the invoice, you need to attach it a couple of times to make it work) but according to Xero they're working on it.

**Recommendations to others considering Xero:**

If you're a sole trader or 1 man band - Xero is for you. If you're planning to grow, avoid Xero as you'll have big costs involved in the future with moving to another accounting software.

**What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As mentioned we're small internet based business but growing about 100-150% a year. After using Xero for about 2 years I passed all of the management to our accountants who are Xero partners. Even them have problems with Xero and ask us (as account managers) to contact support. To be honest reviewer - this is a review of the user who is leaving Xero after 3 happy years, because the last year was quite unhappy and Xero just couldn't handle it.
As a side note I'd like to mention that from Xero support it slipped out that Xero company is not using Xero themselves! (as accounting software)
