The layout of Xcode is phenomenal. It's interfaces are, for the most part, very intuitive and easy to use. The debugging works well and can be used to solve issues very rapidly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Xcode? Apple has, in classic Apple style, told you exactly how this IDE is going to be laid out. You want the Navigator to be on the right instead of the left? Too bad. You want the Utilities at the bottom instead of the right? No, your wrong; it belongs on the right. I do miss the flexibility of Visual Studio, where I could but any tab anywhere I wanted. Not every developer has the same sized monitor and the same method of working, so it's a little frustrating that I can't customize my workspace very well. Some areas of the designer are a little slow. The real-time error identification lags far behind the lightning-fast speeds of Visual Studio, and the storyboard designer can frustratingly slow if you need to move back and forth between several storyboards quickly. Recommendations to others considering Xcode: Take a look at the other options, but you should strongly consider this product that has been developed by Apple. Xcode is the way to develop for IOS. That's all there is to it. We as a company needed an IOS app, so we used the tool that was the simplest to set up and the quickest to get running. It's pretty terrible compared to its competition when it comes to coding things that aren't Swift/Objective C. Which I mean Swift/Objective C is what XCode is made for, I get it, but my Mac tries to use XCode for everything and Apple just needs to accept that XCode isn't that good for everything else. What do you dislike about Xcode? i just wish using xcode is simpler. and deploying application be more straight forward, like adding a wizard instead of such difficult process of deploying applications in the appstore. so much research is necessary just to deploy the application and i find deploying application in Google Play is much more easier. The platform for Mac development par excellence. Xcode does not offer you compatibility with dozens of programming languages. The installation is as simple as always on OSX and offers us a friendly environment that encourages programming. We can program for both OSX and Windows or mobile devices. Recommended if you are an OSX user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Xcode? It takes up too much disk space, when I say too much, I mean a lot. Partly understandable due to the number of languages it handles, but in my opinion, it's excessive. You need to be an advanced user to handle all the options we will find. Recommendations to others considering Xcode: I believe it has improved quite a bit over time, it's been a few years since we used it, but from acquaintances, I know firsthand that it is an excellent option for development from an OSX environment. One thing I absolutely love is the hotkey of Ctrl + i to format my code the perfect way, super awesome. The other thing is how the look and feel of Xcode are just very smooth and not make me tired after working long periods of time. The code hinting has also been a big help for me especially when I am new to iOS development. Also, the emulator is pretty awesome to see, I am surprised by how nice they are. I lost a huge chunk of time trying to update Xcode and working with an entirely new version of Swift, again. Horrible experience trying to deal with iOS development is updating the new Swift and Xcode can't do it automatically itself. Despite xCode's greater sophistication and polish compared to Google Android Studio, xCode comes across as over engineered, proprietary, harder-use, less accessible, and perhaps less reliable. For example, xCode Interface Builder's proprietary XML format is practically non-editable by humans compared to Studio's easy XML format. And xCode's auto layout editor is a nightmare to use compared to the straightforward layout views, etc. on Studio.
