Wowza Streaming Engine is a versatile and robust media server that supports a wide range of streaming protocols and formats, which is one of the features I appreciate most. Its flexibility in handling both live and on-demand streaming makes it suitable for various use cases, from enterprise-level deployments to smaller, custom streaming solutions. Additionally, Wowza's support for adaptive bitrate streaming ensures a smooth experience for viewers across different devices and network conditions.
The comprehensive API and SDKs provided by Wowza also allow developers to create customized streaming workflows, making it a highly adaptable tool. Its low latency capabilities are particularly impressive, especially for applications like live sports or interactive broadcasts where real-time delivery is critical. Lastly, the detailed analytics and monitoring tools offered by Wowza are useful for optimizing and troubleshooting streaming performance Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I am not happy with their Pricing, IT should be less for Startup Companies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We've used Wowza on and off for many years - the quality of the encoders and the recently updated FlowPlayer are pretty hard to beat, particularly at the price point (you can go down a fantastic rabbithole of customising FlowPlayer to match your site with the FlowPlayer add-ons)
Embedding is as simple as a line of code that is generated by the site when you create your stream (and all the encoding options get auto generated but are stil available to adjust as you see fit - nothing seems to be hidden away here!)
A great recent addition has been improving the speed of download on the saved stream footage - previously an 8-hour day would take almost an hour from request to actually starting a download. Now it's much quicker and I can't say how much more usable this has made Wowza (thank you, you've literally cut hours off our tunr-around times!)
Although the customer service times seem quite slow for PAYG customers, I've never had to wait that long to get help (and in 'critical' time sensitive matters they do seem to reply quickly) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Over the past few years, every little annoyance seems to have been ironed out of the platform meaning that my dislike is a little bit of my impatience!
For the PAYG, it'd be nice if they had a tally of current charges outstanding on your account.
The prices for PAYG clearly displayed, they tell you how much data you've used each day but you need to work out the price yourself (I know, basic multiplication, but it'd be nice if they could add this into their fantastic platform Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
WOWZA is a super reliable, effecient media server empowering our orgaization to deliver lprogramming live and on demand. We have been using WOWZA for over 20 years, starting on an Apple Xserver. Our WOWZA now resides on older Mac Mini (3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5) and is easily able to keep up with the demand for our programming. Maintence is almost non-existant, save for the yealy renewal of our Streamlock certificate. It just works! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Initial configuration can be a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it is easy to alter and add functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It’s a very reliable platform for both live streaming and VoD, offering a lot of flexibility for encoding, transcoding, and distributing videos. It supports a wide range of protocols—like HLS, RTMP, and WebRTC—along with its cloud integrations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza offers a lot of features, but this can make the setup process complex for new users who are not familiar with streaming technology. In our case - beginners felt that there is a steep learning curve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza has a fairly simple setup for the stream and stream targets. The transcoding options are fairly priced and give us multiple stream resolution options from our incomeoing 1080p stream. We stream to Wowza and Wowza outputs to our Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Rumble, Church Online Platform (2 transcoded resolutions) and and an audio only Phone streaming platform.
We use Wowza 3 times a week presently but in the past we were streaming up to 6 times a week. Wowza's feature set is great for the lower monthly fee options they offer. Once you setup your multiple streaming targets, you can decide if it's full (passthrough) resolution or transcoded down to lower resolutions. They offer video storage, VOD and OTT features we aren't utilizing presently, but they're there if you need them. The few times we've had questions our support emails have been replied to in a timely manner.
Wowza is a straight forward, solid, reliable system for simple to complex streaming needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza just updated their user interface and as they simplified some of the steps for setup, it seems they may have removed some of the target editing options they used to have. I need to investigate further... But I know they listen to user feedback and if there's something that is needed they'll find a way to make it happen. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza had taken the guesswork and mystery out of live streaming while also providing a very rubust and trustworthy streaming platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
At first we really wanted a platform that would provide a player page for the live streaming player. We learned to use javascript to embed the player on a page. They now offer a iFrame experiance to do it, but I would have been great to have the iFrame method 10 years ago. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We love how simple it is to set up and monitor. It integrates with our streaming software VMix -using just a short code. And for our audience members, the quality of the streams, regardless of device, has been excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only downside is they did increase the basic monthly fee to use the service a la carte. Not cost prohibitive, but as small K12 school, for what we stream to our parents/etc, it it was an unwanted fee increase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I like most about Wowza Video is its combination of scalability, low latency, and flexibility. Its robust infrastructure ensures smooth and uninterrupted streaming, even on a large scale. Additionally, the ability to offer low-latency streaming is ideal for live events and interactive applications, providing an almost instant experience for viewers. Cost: Wowza Video can be expensive, especially for small businesses or individual projects. It would be beneficial to offer more affordable or scalable pricing options for different types of users and budgets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is easy to set up and use but allows a wide range of customization.
There are plenty of Java plugins for Wowza, and it is quite easy to write your own.
Other systems can easily integrate with Wowza.
It is market standard so it is tested on many devices and problems with streaming even strange ones are rare and rather easily solvable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza does not support new streaming technology like AV1.
It does not fully support subtitles for live channels (doable, but requires quite a work and not standard solutions)
Tickets created by support are not visible to the client, so we often report something and have to check if it is implemented in the new version, without proper information from the Wowza team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I choose Wowza Video because of its fair pricing model. It works great for my monthly livestreams for years. I hade some issues before one livestream and the wowza suppot helped me solving it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza had some trouble updating its video portal to the new version. But now everything works fine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Self hosted, easy to install, setup and maintain. We have ran Wowza for over a decade streaming hundrends of events multiple times per month, in many different and sometimes remote locations! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Can be more difficult to harden, running Java at its core can mean its resource intensive Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
