**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Lets my team and me edit the same document in real time, so no version-control headaches, just smooth, synchronized collaboration.

The XBRL integration is a lifesaver during crunch time; regulatory filings that once felt daunting are now almost routine.

I use Wdesk several times a day, and its stability means I rarely worry about crashes or lost work.

It has robust access-permission settings that allow me share sensitive documents confidently, ensuring only the right eyes see the right data.

Customer support has been stellar; whenever I get stuck, clear and timely guidance gets me back on track fast.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Steep learning curve: mastering advanced linking, tagging, and navigation still takes me a lot of trial and error, and onboarding required outside consulting help.

Interface overwhelm: the UI feels cluttered with lots of clicks in and out of windows, so quick edits don’t feel as intuitive as other tools (e.g. Google Docs).

The 'processes' and 'tasks' functionality is very basic for our needs. It only allows one preparer and one reviewer but sometimes we have multiple levels of review. Additionally, it does allow a review to re-assign the task or add comments as to why they reject or deny a task. 

While I value the functionality, the increasing subscription costs are becoming harder to justify, especially for smaller budgets or lighter use-cases.

While the support reps are great, I’d rely on them less if the manuals and tutorials were more more detailed.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It funnels ERP and other data into one secure hub, wiping out manual re-entry and spreadsheet chaos.
Real-time collaboration and built-in audit trails cut errors and speed up month- and quarter-end closes.
Automated workflows and strong controls boost confidence in SEC, financial, and ESG reports while slashing compliance risk.
Overall, what used to be a stressful, error-prone process is now faster, more accurate, and far less of a headache.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

The Workiva application has a user-friendly interface and strong collaboration capabilities, along with workflow automation, audit trails that support transparency, and solid data management and reporting features. Users appreciate being able to create multiple reports from a single source of data, the ease of configuration, and the seamless integration with enterprise systems. The platform’s real-time collaboration tools, validation checks, audit trails, and user access controls are especially valued because they help reduce manual work and errors, while keeping information current and consistent across linked documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Workiva has limited functionality compared with Excel features. It also has a steep learning curve and does not allow users to edit and work on existing Microsoft documents, requiring users to create new spreadsheets instead.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Workiva application is helping us keep all SOX control-related sign-offs, the control framework, audit logs, and related documentation in one place. This is very useful during audits and external review meetings.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I love Workiva for its real-time collaboration features, which allow multiple team members to work on the same report seamlessly, helping to avoid overwrites. The system also eliminates manual data entry errors by using an automated linking system. During the initial setup, Workiva provided great support, assigning a professional service team to assist with data setup and template creation, which, despite initially taking some time, was definitely worth it for the long-term efficiency.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

The learning curve can be quite steep for new users because the platform has so many features. Also, the pricing is on the high side, so it might not be the best fit for smaller companies with very simple reporting needs.

I use Workiva for financial reporting, ensuring data consistency and audit readiness. It helps solve version control issues, allowing team collaboration on a single document, and eliminates manual data entry errors through automation.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I appreciate that Workiva confidently manages complex and high-pressure reporting work. The way data stays linked across documents, spreadsheets, and presentations is a huge plus as it significantly reduces the risk of errors and repetitive manual updates. I value the structured and controlled collaboration, which makes reviews, approvals, and last-minute changes much easier to handle. I like that it allows me to focus more on accuracy and decision-making rather than dealing with inconsistencies or managing versions. The data linking feature is particularly valuable because it eliminates manual updates across multiple files, automatically updating numbers or disclosures everywhere they are used. This not only saves time during review cycles and reduces stress, but it also ensures the data is consistent, traceable, and aligned, increasing my confidence in the final output.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

One area where Workiva could be improved is usability for new or infrequent users. The platform is powerful, but the depth of features can feel overwhelming at first, and it takes time to fully understand the best way to navigate workflows and configurations. Some tasks that are simple in traditional tools can require more steps, which can slow things down until users are fully trained. Based on my experience with Workiva, one improvement that would add meaningful value is more role-based guidance and contextual help within the platform. Enhancing performance when working with very large or complex reports would also help during peak reporting periods. Additionally, more flexible customization of dashboards and reporting views would allow teams to surface the most important information faster and work more efficiently.

I like how Workiva is easy to use and mirrors Microsoft Word and Excel, which makes it very easy for new users to pick up on how to use it. It was very easy to set up, as we were assisted by the Workiva support team to get a draft of our financials fully uploaded. I also appreciate how Workiva helps us organize our financial statements and follow the proper control environment around our financial reporting process.

Additionally, handling very large datasets or highly complex reports can occasionally slow down performance. Without previous training, figuring out how to use all the tools that Workiva offers can be quite confusing. I also find that creating data charts within text is often challenging.

This tool is assisting us in drafting and preparing our ESG report as well as our financial reporting. We also plan to incorporate our GHG inventory into it in the future.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Workiva provides an excellent centralized platform for managing audit, risk, and compliance workflows. I really like how seamlessly it integrates data across controls, evidence requests, narratives, and reports — reducing redundancy and manual effort. The collaboration features are strong, allowing multiple team members to work in real time without version control issues. The automated linking between documents and data points also helps ensure consistency, especially for SOC and SOX. Overall, it’s user-friendly, intuitive, and saves a lot of time during audit cycles.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Overall, I find Workiva to be a very useful tool, though it can sometimes feel a bit complicated. This may be due to the way we have implemented it, but in my experience, most users tend to use the comments section rather than the workflows. I also wish there were more comprehensive reporting features to track what is pending, completed, and other statuses.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva helps streamline and centralize our SOX ITGC documentation and testing processes. Before using it, our evidence collection and control tracking were spread across spreadsheets, emails, and shared drives, which made version control and collaboration difficult. With Workiva, all control narratives, test results, and evidence are linked in one place, making it much easier to manage updates and maintain consistency across the environment.

  ### 14. Intuitive ESG Carbon Module, But Room to Further Build Out Functionality

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I really appreciate the ease of use in Workiva’s Carbon module. The platform is intuitive, making it straightforward to navigate and get work done efficiently. Even without direct API integrations, the bulk upload feature is a huge time-saver—it lets me quickly import large volumes of data with minimal hassle. I also like that after uploading, I can see the latest data in real time with just a short refresh, and having a snapshot view makes it easy to review and track progress. Overall, these features help streamline ESG data management and reporting.  At this time, I cannot yet speak to the full capabilities of Workiva’s ESG reporting, as that functionality is still under implementation.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

While the Workiva Carbon platform offers many strengths, there are still a number of areas for improvement. For example, reporting capabilities remain somewhat limited, as it is not currently possible to generate reports based on user-defined groups. There’s also a lack of audit reporting for scope 3 data, which makes comprehensive ESG oversight more challenging. Additionally, system reliability can be an issue—there have been instances of reporting downtime and times when the system reverts to previous versions of functionality, which disrupts workflow. Building out further features such as FERA integration, T&E CPI conversion, and direct linkage of location square footage to CBECS for building data feeds would also help address current gaps and significantly enhance the module’s overall effectiveness.

At this time, I cannot yet speak to the full capabilities of Workiva’s ESG reporting, as that functionality is still under implementation. However, it is worth noting that, compared to the carbon module, the ESG reporting process has been much slower due to its less intuitive design. The support page offers limited guidance for navigating this module, which has led to a significant reliance on our implementation partner and with the Workiva support module, there is not the ability to lean on Workiva customer support since we are still in the implementation phrase.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva’s ESG carbon module alleviates the complexity of handling large volumes of data—its bulk upload feature streamlines the process, saving time and reducing manual entry errors. The platform’s intuitive interface allows efficient navigation while minimizing the learning curve and increasing productivity without extensive training.

Additionally, Workiva will help to keep our ESG data up to date, offering real-time visibility and snapshot views that simplify tracking progress and reviewing recent changes. By consolidating data management and reporting into a single system, it should reduce the need for disparate tools and manual processes, ultimately improving workflow efficiency.

However, while the platform addresses key pain points such as data import and real-time monitoring, some areas—like custom report generation, scope 3 audit reporting, and overall system reliability—still present challenges. Continued development of features and integration capabilities promises to further close these gaps, making ESG reporting more comprehensive and less burdensome for organizations.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Workiva is an excellent GRC tool. The platform is highly customizable and can be built and designed to accomplish just about anything you would want. Access and be permissions right down to the individual file and you can create groups to easily permission and allow access to different areas of the database. If allows you to build reports and dashboards and pivot the database anyway you want. It does take some time to really get up to speed and understand all the different functionality that Workiva offers. You really get what you put into it, if you take the time to learn all the functionality, what can build is almost limitless.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

The only downside is that it can take some time to understand the functionality and how to link fields and build reports within the database. If you don’t understand how to give the users the correct roles and setup the correct permissions, it can result in users accidentally changing certain data or information accidentally or unknowingly.

Helping us to get out of MS Excel and have a one stop shop for our inventory of risks, controls, regulations and control testing.

It has a lot of modules that may be able to provide wholistic views of risks/controls and not require duplication of efforts. Employees of Workiva as customer success managers and engineers really do a great job.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

There are opportunities for this to be a great tool. The issue is you get a different experience from each consulting company you 'have' to partner with and sometimes within the same consulting group. There is not a user group to bounce ideas for RCM and Audit. Some features have not matured yet for ease of use and I do not think they have people who have performed the business roles employed at Workiva. They do not understand the workflow from a business perspective. Once you are done with the required use of a consultant the employees of Workiva will get the job done, but it seems like rework. You have to define your own best practices, which is hard if you have not performed the role in the past, like RCSAs.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a risk and control environment for ERM and a platform to perform risk and control self-assessments and issues management. Right now it does the job but out of the box it does not have a good work flow and you do not know there are other options until you connect with other customers. I think we can grow into it, but I am still peeling the onion on what it can do. Our sales person has provided inaccurate information so we are really trying to get it to work as well as another company I connect with.

I also found the collaboration features extremely useful, especially when working across departments or with external auditors. I like the controls management workspace. Where I can create different dashboards depending on the asset classes and the controls that pertain to them. There was sufficient communication between my team and the CSMs to transition from sharepoint to workiva to house all our controls. Our teams use it quite frequently to check the reports and keep our documentation updated.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

The interface is a bit hard to learn but once you get it, it becomes easier. There are just a few bugs within the reports and processes tab. When we need something like a decommissioned controls report, it was able to be done on Workiva but we keep having to reach out to customer support to fix the glitches as there are several.

I feel like the system is very robust from a financial reporting perspective. The help desk is also excellent. I've used the Capital Markets group for an S-3 and that was a great experience as well.

I feel like some things are not very intuitive. It is difficult to work in Proxy Statement documents with graphics and pictures and 8-K set up could be easier. In the online tools for help it is difficult to find what you are looking for. I've worked in other programs that were easier to use.

The Learning Hub and Support center are full of great resources to get you started. Current projects can be easily converted (or imported) into Workiva to give your projects a jump start.

The number and frequency of new features is both a pro and a con. I love many of the features released in the last year, however getting detailed instructions is a little more challenging.

I used Workiva for a short time last year when I worked at a startup. The interface was very clear and easy to understand once I learned it. It helped me complete two important tasks: first, I used it to prepare an ESG report faster by connecting data from different places into one file. Second, I used it to work with my team on an internal audit report — we could all edit at the same time, which saved us a lot of back and forth. Overall, it made my work easier and faster.

It took me some time to understand how to set up the connections between data and documents. After I got used to it, it was much better, but it was not super easy at the beginning.

Workiva helped me save time by putting all the data in one place and making it easy to work with my team. Before, it was hard to collect information from different systems and update everything by hand. With Workiva, I could connect the data and update reports faster, with fewer mistakes. Ease of use, collaboration, feature rich focus on financial reporting. Additionally, easy collection of support and certifications from non-workiva users. Ability to integrate SSO makes it seamless for organization non-users. Customer support is human & top notch, to the point of handholding through any unnerving tasks (e.g. filing).

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

As they continue to build out and find their sweet spots we are forced to contend with moving menus, changes in processes and clicks. Feels like I'm relearning the product, but it's only once in a blue moon type change.

Certification management today. Previously worked in financial reporting and it was best in class, with no viable alternatives.
