I use Wdesk several times a day, and its stability means I rarely worry about crashes or lost work. It has robust access-permission settings that allow me share sensitive documents confidently, ensuring only the right eyes see the right data. Customer support has been stellar; whenever I get stuck, clear and timely guidance gets me back on track fast. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** Steep learning curve: mastering advanced linking, tagging, and navigation still takes me a lot of trial and error, and onboarding required outside consulting help. Interface overwhelm: the UI feels cluttered with lots of clicks in and out of windows, so quick edits don’t feel as intuitive as other tools (e.g. Google Docs). The 'processes' and 'tasks' functionality is very basic for our needs. It only allows one preparer and one reviewer but sometimes we have multiple levels of review. Additionally, it does allow a review to re-assign the task or add comments as to why they reject or deny a task. While I value the functionality, the increasing subscription costs are becoming harder to justify, especially for smaller budgets or lighter use-cases. While the support reps are great, I’d rely on them less if the manuals and tutorials were more more detailed. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** It funnels ERP and other data into one secure hub, wiping out manual re-entry and spreadsheet chaos. Templates are okay for the forecast portions. The consolidated feature is better than our old method of doing things. They will respond when something breaks which has been a nice surprise since I was expecting they would completely ignore me. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** Data processing speeds are terrible and it takes an eternity to run a template. It takes 18 months for basic updates to occur and that is absolutely ridiculous and very slow. My major complaint with this product is the fact that subline items in the planning section are not displayed in the reporting area. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** While my elbow continues to hit the cold coffee mug on my desk at least the month-end closing process is not a complete disaster. We have eliminated a full-time employee because the time spent manually collecting data is gone. For the first time ever, the budget variance is accurate. I wish that my firm chose to also purchase the W-Data real-time data refresh package. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** The fact that you do not get all features of Workiva with the basic package that QH has. We do not have W-Data and thus the Workiva Sync is really a glorified copy + paste tool. I also hate that system functionalities are abridged simply because we did not buy the W-Data package - for example, the Find + Replace feature is a one-by-one adjustment rather than being able to select a full page or sheet and have it find / replace everything. This can sometimes take HOURS - what gives?! **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** Workiva has stream-lined our close process with the Workiva Sync method. Before, it could take much longer for us to complete and update reporting during financial close. With Workiva, we have nearly cut that time in half. This proved to add some good efficiencies along with easier reporting and knowledge for everyone to view the status. We use Workiva daily and **What do you dislike about Workiva?** Customer Service answers your posts quickly, but it does take quite a while for any meaningful change to occur, if they do choose to take your suggestion under review. For example, 4 years ago I requested an advanced search that would allow us to search within files that are in the testing experience. This is to help comply with regulations such as the CCPA. About a year ago they implemented an advanced search that looks in files, however it doesn't look in the testing experience for some reason, and after multiple follow-ups I am told they are still looking into it. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** not having to do the work and track manually. It has also been extremely valuable for maintaining data continuity. The features that allow us to assign tasks and request data have improved both our timing and overall processes. Given the complexity of the reports we produce and the thorough verification steps required, the collaborative features have made a noticeable difference for every team involved. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** While Workiva excels in certain areas, it still falls short in terms of design features that are considered standard in other programs. For example, there is currently no option to create a horizontal report, which complicates the workflow. The only workaround is to break the control chain at the final step, but this can introduce its own problems. Furthermore, handling attachments in spreadsheets, linking data between reports, or establishing source links remains cumbersome and unreliable. As a result, I often find myself having to double-check and review my work, which leads to unnecessary duplication of effort. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** Workiva is solving a problem of controls, data collection and reporting. As explained before, it has been tremendously helpful in that sense because there is less access and need for multiple people to add or edit data. It allows for easy handling of sub-certifications and comprehensive documentation of control and risk design. The setup process was facilitated excellently by using a third-party service called embark, making the introduction to Workiva smooth and efficient without the need for further customizations. I appreciate the standard control forms, test forms, and the streamlined workflow for PVC requests and certifications which significantly enhance our operational efficiency. Moreover, Workiva integrates seamlessly with various tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat, which I find very useful for uploading necessary artifacts. I am so satisfied with Workiva that I would certainly consider purchasing it again and have even recommended it to other vendors, who subsequently found it valuable enough to purchase themselves. Overall, I have a high regard for Workiva's capabilities, which is why I would recommend it on a scale of nine. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** I find Workiva's visualization capabilities lacking compared to specialized tools like Tableau. Management visualizations are increasingly important, and I feel Workiva could improve in this area. The platform is intuitive, making it straightforward to navigate and get work done efficiently. Even without direct API integrations, the bulk upload feature is a huge time-saver—it lets me quickly import large volumes of data with minimal hassle. I also like that after uploading, I can see the latest data in real time with just a short refresh, and having a snapshot view makes it easy to review and track progress. Overall, these features help streamline ESG data management and reporting. At this time, I cannot yet speak to the full capabilities of Workiva’s ESG reporting, as that functionality is still under implementation. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** While the Workiva Carbon platform offers many strengths, there are still a number of areas for improvement. For example, reporting capabilities remain somewhat limited, as it is not currently possible to generate reports based on user-defined groups. There’s also a lack of audit reporting for scope 3 data, which makes comprehensive ESG oversight more challenging. Additionally, system reliability can be an issue—there have been instances of reporting downtime and times when the system reverts to previous versions of functionality, which disrupts workflow. Building out further features such as FERA integration, T&E CPI conversion, and direct linkage of location square footage to CBECS for building data feeds would also help address current gaps and significantly enhance the module’s overall effectiveness. At this time, I cannot yet speak to the full capabilities of Workiva’s ESG reporting, as that functionality is still under implementation. However, it is worth noting that, compared to the carbon module, the ESG reporting process has been much slower due to its less intuitive design. The support page offers limited guidance for navigating this module, which has led to a significant reliance on our implementation partner and with the Workiva support module, there is not the ability to lean on Workiva customer support since we are still in the implementation phrase. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** Workiva’s ESG carbon module alleviates the complexity of handling large volumes of data—its bulk upload feature streamlines the process, saving time and reducing manual entry errors. The platform’s intuitive interface allows efficient navigation while minimizing the learning curve and increasing productivity without extensive training. Additionally, Workiva will help to keep our ESG data up to date, offering real-time visibility and snapshot views that simplify tracking progress and reviewing recent changes. By consolidating data management and reporting into a single system, it should reduce the need for disparate tools and manual processes, ultimately improving workflow efficiency. However, while the platform addresses key pain points such as data import and real-time monitoring, some areas—like custom report generation, scope 3 audit reporting, and overall system reliability—still present challenges. Employees of Workiva as customer success managers and engineers really do a great job. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** There are opportunities for this to be a great tool. The issue is you get a different experience from each consulting company you 'have' to partner with and sometimes within the same consulting group. There is not a user group to bounce ideas for RCM and Audit. Some features have not matured yet for ease of use and I do not think they have people who have performed the business roles employed at Workiva. They do not understand the workflow from a business perspective. Once you are done with the required use of a consultant the employees of Workiva will get the job done, but it seems like rework. You have to define your own best practices, which is hard if you have not performed the role in the past, like RCSAs. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed a risk and control environment for ERM and a platform to perform risk and control self-assessments and issues management. Right now it does the job but out of the box it does not have a good work flow and you do not know there are other options until you connect with other customers. I think we can grow into it, but I am still peeling the onion on what it can do. I like the collaboration capabilities and I also enjoy the ability to autosave, run previous versions, run blacklines and also the tracking capabilities for changes. I use Workiva for all of my external reports and use the program daily as it is an essential part of my work. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** Workiva can be very buggy. When it comes down to meeting our tight external reporting deadlines, it becomes very irritating to have to deal with glitches or bugs that affect performance. Example of these include: Link capabilities randomly not working (can't paste from a source link to a destination in another section), formatting issues (can't push footnotes to bottom of page, random blue highlights in document, spacing issues), issues with the task process, for example, the status of a task is still pending approval, despite the approver already approving. Exporting issues, limited capabilities to export the spreadsheet type documents landscape format, exporting reports with hidden rows. For example, creating a pivot table is not possible and my team have relied upon a series of IF and SUMIF formulaes to wrangle data into the correct format. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** 1. You can link framework metrics to existing data points, but you cannot create new metrics from the Factbook. In essence, if you see a metric that you would like to begin reporting on, you have to go create it first and then link it, instead of doing it right then and there. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows us to aggregate relevant ESG metrics in the platform, manage historical data points, seamlessly manage updates and revisions to metrics, and push updated metrics to any report which contains that data point.
