It also has spreadsheet limitations, such as not being able to see the formula and modeling capabilities, handling large complex data connections, and experiencing slower loading times. Additionally, it does not always provide all documents for download when there are numerous items to import or export. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** For Internal Audit, it provides an audit trail and connects with the business on ownership instead of using emails for status updates. It gives my team an easy way to track that they've completed all parts of the audit. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** I don't like the approval process. The EWP we used to use would better track when people approved procedures or even attachments as being completed. If someone changed a procedure or workpaper post-approval, its status was returned to an un-prepared status which required people to sign off and approve again. Workiva doesn't enforce that, so it is easy to make it seem like there is appropriate preparation and approval when there isn't. The information is tracked by Workiva, so forensically it can be seen, but it isn't as obvious as I would prefer. We need a better way to update attachments, though to be fair this might be an issue with our company's configurations rather than Workiva. The initial setup was okay. It is customizable, which sounds good, but maybe isn't. We were looking for best practices and willing to change our processes. Workiva's team never offered these. They just customized it where they could to meet our existing processes. They're very kind people. Setting up Workiva was fairly easy with a couple of onboarding sessions and interactive engagement calls. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** We've had some issues with the platform in the past, and it hasn't been the most user-friendly experience. A lot of functionality doesn't really meet our needs in terms of gathering data and we're not able to analyze it in the system. It makes it basically not very usable for us to plug data into. I think the user interface could be better. The spreadsheets are kind of clunky and difficult to use. It has also been extremely valuable for maintaining data continuity. The features that allow us to assign tasks and request data have improved both our timing and overall processes. Given the complexity of the reports we produce and the thorough verification steps required, the collaborative features have made a noticeable difference for every team involved. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** While Workiva excels in certain areas, it still falls short in terms of design features that are considered standard in other programs. For example, there is currently no option to create a horizontal report, which complicates the workflow. The only workaround is to break the control chain at the final step, but this can introduce its own problems. Furthermore, handling attachments in spreadsheets, linking data between reports, or establishing source links remains cumbersome and unreliable. As a result, I often find myself having to double-check and review my work, which leads to unnecessary duplication of effort. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** Workiva is solving a problem of controls, data collection and reporting. As explained before, it has been tremendously helpful in that sense because there is less access and need for multiple people to add or edit data. Employees of Workiva as customer success managers and engineers really do a great job. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** There are opportunities for this to be a great tool. The issue is you get a different experience from each consulting company you 'have' to partner with and sometimes within the same consulting group. There is not a user group to bounce ideas for RCM and Audit. Some features have not matured yet for ease of use and I do not think they have people who have performed the business roles employed at Workiva. They do not understand the workflow from a business perspective. Once you are done with the required use of a consultant the employees of Workiva will get the job done, but it seems like rework. You have to define your own best practices, which is hard if you have not performed the role in the past, like RCSAs. **What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed a risk and control environment for ERM and a platform to perform risk and control self-assessments and issues management. Right now it does the job but out of the box it does not have a good work flow and you do not know there are other options until you connect with other customers. I think we can grow into it, but I am still peeling the onion on what it can do. I like the collaboration capabilities and I also enjoy the ability to autosave, run previous versions, run blacklines and also the tracking capabilities for changes. I use Workiva for all of my external reports and use the program daily as it is an essential part of my work. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** Workiva can be very buggy. When it comes down to meeting our tight external reporting deadlines, it becomes very irritating to have to deal with glitches or bugs that affect performance. Example of these include: Link capabilities randomly not working (can't paste from a source link to a destination in another section), formatting issues (can't push footnotes to bottom of page, random blue highlights in document, spacing issues), issues with the task process, for example, the status of a task is still pending approval, despite the approver already approving. Exporting issues, limited capabilities to export the spreadsheet type documents landscape format, exporting reports with hidden rows. Where I can create different dashboards depending on the asset classes and the controls that pertain to them. There was sufficient communication between my team and the CSMs to transition from sharepoint to workiva to house all our controls. Our teams use it quite frequently to check the reports and keep our documentation updated. **What do you dislike about Workiva?** The interface is a bit hard to learn but once you get it, it becomes easier. There are just a few bugs within the reports and processes tab. For example, I am very excited about the calendar tool coming out. But I was disappointed to hear that I wouldn’t be able to create tasks and have those appear in the calendar format. Another example is around comments. I don’t want everyone to see every single comment. Also i would like to have more flexibility on formats/ fonts in documents. Customer support helpful but can take a while and requests have been lost **What do you dislike about Workiva?** There needs to be more drag and drop features especially in the files folders experience. Also, a format for requests where everything is in one report that can be rolled forward instead of creating multiple new requests each year would be better. I used to do my PBC list in less than a day just rolling forward a single excel sheet - now I have to go into 100 different windows to create requests. A format where we can create all requests for a specific audit in one window and it would link to the testing experiences automatically would be much better. The current setup has quadrupled the time it takes me to complete PBC requests. The workspace can also be slow at times and kick me out and reconnect or take a long time to load. Report filtering should work the same as excel, the way these reports filter I find useless and I always need to export and convert them to make them useful to myself. There should be a greater ability to create custom reports that will filter based on created rules and assigned to process owners so managers can see request list outstanding or a mass file of their controls. It's also really hard to use when your company doesn't let you connect to your ERP and you have to upload csv files on your own all the time. I have programming experience so wData was easy to learn but not as easy for my coworkers that do not understand basic programming.
