Windows 8 was a pretty solid upgrade with fast boot times and a clean look. The new Start screen was cool for touchscreens, but kinda annoying for regular PC users. It ran smoothly and had good security, Overall, not bad, just took some getting used to. 7.5/10

Losing the classic Start menu was a weird choice.

As someone who uses my laptop for both work and entertainment, Windows 8 has made things a lot smoother. The fast boot times mean I can jump into my tasks quickly, whether it's checking emails or editing documents. The improved security features give me peace of mind. Plus, the new Start screen helps me keep my most-used apps organised, making it easy to switch between work and streaming my favourite shows. It took a little getting used to, but overall, it’s made my daily routine more efficient. I do use multiple devices so i tend to go back and forth

  ### 8. Windows 8 is not user friendly.

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luyanda K. | IT Support Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Windows 8?**

It works well on small devices like tablets and phones. it gives a good experience in those because most of them don't use buttons they have touch screen.

**What do you dislike about Windows 8?**

Windows 8 is not user-friendly and it complicated especially for people who are not that familiar with computers. Let not forget that Windows OS are also used by people who are not computer wizard, people who only want to get the job done. Like the start menu is not clear, there are lot of things happening there, it better only if you know how to use computer shortcut on your keyboard. and is the main reason why lot of people preffer to use Windows 7, 10, and 11.

**What problems is Windows 8 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is easier to use only in small devices. Most of things are located in the start menu so it is easier to navigate in different software at the same time.

**What do you like best about Windows 8?**

I appreciated the modern features and appearance that came with it. In the past, I used XP, Vista, and 7, and although those versions were excellent and hard to move on from, Windows 8 was the first operating system I truly owned. The new apps and updated look made me enjoy using it even more.

**What do you dislike about Windows 8?**

It's a common sentiment, but I agree that Windows 7 was better. People had grown accustomed to it, and in my experience, Windows 8 often has quite a few bugs and issues.

**What problems is Windows 8 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Initially, I found it to be good, but in my opinion, version 8.1 was better.

  ### 12. Windows 8 review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aman G. | SOFTWARE ENGINEER, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2024

**What do you like best about Windows 8?**

Basically it is an operating system introduced by microsoft in 2012, with unique features and designs. It comes with fast boot times as compared to windows 7. As well as there are more additional features like its UI and security is better than its previous versions. It has also its own microsoft store in systems for downloading apps.

**What do you dislike about Windows 8?**

Microsoft store which is firstly launch in windows 8 has limited number of apps than any other app downloading platform like Google play or App store. According to some users they faces glitches and bugs in their windows 8.

**What problems is Windows 8 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Boot time and speed is better in windows 8 which leads to time efficiency for users. Windows 8 has also a feature of OneDrive which is bascially a cloud service in which we can store data and sync setting and access data across devices.

  ### 13. Bold Innovations, but a Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tanvir A. | Category (on-Site Operations), Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2024

**What do you like best about Windows 8?**

This included some remarkable improvements in performance and security in Windows 8. Fast boot times and smooth system performance were a great upgrade from the earlier versions. Cloud services, such as OneDrive, made it easier to sync files across devices. I also liked the enhanced security features, including Secure Boot, with the enhancement made in Windows Defender to be more secure. The live tiles looked cool, were useful for touchscreens, and provided fast ways not only to access information but also apps.

**What do you dislike about Windows 8?**

Of course, the drawback was removing the traditional Start Menu, which was important, especially for nontouch users. To the majority of desktop and laptop users, this tilebased Start Screen felt unintuitive and simply made it that much more annoying to navigate. Then there was the huge learning curve in drastic UI changes, making longtime Windows users have a hard time adapting. Also, the system did not have many features that would allow users to customize the look and feel of the desktop. Additionally, jumping between the Desktop and Modern UI environment felt a little disjointed.

**What problems is Windows 8 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The idea of Windows 8 was to bridge the gap between mobile and desktop, hence offering a coherent OS across several device types. In particular, if you used both a tablet and a traditional PC, this integration would be pretty handy, since its touch-friendly interface allows for seamless transition across devices. The problem of fragmented file access was solved through OneDrive cloud integration; hence, it was easy to access documents across various platforms. This, along with improved boot times and system performances, solved their problem of slow startups and made day-to-day tasks easier and more efficiently executed. With enhanced security features, this solution came with the guarantee of peace of mind, reducing the likelihood of malware or other data breaches.

**What do you like best about Windows 8?**

What I found particularly appealing about is:

Metro User Interface: The Metro user interface, with its live tiles and touch-friendly design, was a significant departure from previous Windows versions. I appreciated its fresh and visually dynamic approach, which made interacting with the operating system more engaging.

**What do you dislike about Windows 8?**

While Windows 8 introduced several notable features and changes, there were also aspects of the operating system that I found less appealing or encountered challenges with:
Limited Desktop Integration: Windows 8 had a dual nature, with a traditional desktop mode and the new Metro interface. However, the integration between the two felt disjointed at times. Switching between these modes and launching desktop applications from the Metro interface could be confusing.

Start Screen and Lack of Customization: The removal of the Start button and the replacement with the full-screen Start screen was a source of frustration for many. The inability to easily customize and organize tiles on the Start screen made it less user-friendly compared to the classic Start menu.

**What problems is Windows 8 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Touch-Centric User Experience: Windows 8 was released at a time when touch-enabled devices were becoming more prevalent. The Metro interface, with its live tiles and touch-friendly design, aimed to provide a more intuitive and interactive experience on touchscreens. For users with touch-enabled devices, this design shift brought a more tactile and engaging way of interacting with the operating system.
Efficient Task Manager: Windows 8's enhanced task manager offered detailed information about running processes and resource usage. This was beneficial for troubleshooting and optimizing system performance, especially for power users and those who wanted more control over their system.
Windows 8 aimed to solve the challenges posed by evolving hardware trends and user expectations, providing benefits such as improved touch support, faster performance, streamlined search, enhanced security, and more efficient multitasking

**What do you like best about Windows 8?**

The apps you use in Windows 8 can feed you information without you even having to open them. This is especially helpful with home-bred Microsoft apps like Mail, Calendar, Photos and News, for viewing new e-mail, upcoming events, thumbnail images and the latest headlines. Third-party app developers can also take advantage of the Live Tile feature. For example, LivingSocial shows you snippets of new deals in your area. If you’re sick of a specific app’s constantly changing tile, you can always turn the Live Tile feature off. Microsoft has also given more life to the lock screen in Windows 8. You can select up to seven apps that will constantly run in the background and send notifications to the lock screen. You can also select between the Weather and Calendar apps to show information on the Lock Screen at all times. Got a meeting coming up? Your Lock Screen can tell you.

**What do you dislike about Windows 8?**

When there is an update to the OS, it will consume lot of time as a minimum of 30 minutes. No antivirus for the Windows8, only firewall and the internet security.

**What problems is Windows 8 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The load and boot up speed has improved considerably over Windows’ predecessors. This is moderately due to the enhanced resource allocations to applications and the system. When compared to Windows 7 desktop CPU, Windows 8 has an even speedier boot time.

  ### 44. A best Review for Windows 8

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sagar n. | Sr. UI/UX cum Graphics Designer, Design, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Windows 8?**

My favourite feature of Windows 8 was its slick, contemporary UI. The debut of the Start screen with live tiles gave the operating system a new, lively appearance. It appeared to be a substantial stride towards a user experience that is touch-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. With the option to flip between the conventional desktop and the new Start screen, users of both traditional PCs and touch-enabled devices had flexibility. A pleasant improvement for many customers, Windows 8 also provided shorter boot times and improved performance over its predecessor.

**What do you dislike about Windows 8?**

The drastic change from the accustomed Start menu was what I found to be the worst aspect about Windows 8. For many seasoned Windows users, the debut of the Start screen and its tile-based user interface seemed abrupt and perplexing. Even after a while of getting used to the new interface, certain formerly simple chores become more difficult to do. The dual structure of Windows 8, with both the regular desktop and the Start screen, also occasionally seemed jumbled. The new interface was created with touch devices in mind, however some users found it difficult to use on traditional desktops or laptops because of this. Many of these problems, fortunately, were fixed in later Windows releases and iterations.

**What problems is Windows 8 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The goal of Windows 8 was to address the difficulty of updating the Windows operating system for a rapidly changing technological environment. It had a more touch-friendly interface that was advantageous for users of tablets and hybrid devices because it was created with touch displays and mobile devices in mind. By responding to the rising demand for touch-enabled computing, Windows became more competitive in the quickly evolving IT sector.

Windows 8 gave users of touch devices a more fluid and intuitive experience, enabling them to interact with their PCs similarly to how people use smartphones and tablets. Efficiency was increased by the Start screen's live tiles, which provided dynamic information at a glance.

Windows 8 also brought about performance improvements, such as quicker start times and better resource management. Users profited from this since it made computers more responsive and effective.

It's crucial to remember that some customers were unhappy with the changes made to Windows 8, such as the elimination of the conventional Start menu, since they produced difficulties. Microsoft responded to some of these issues in later upgrades and iterations, eventually resulting in Windows 10, which integrated features from Windows 7 and Windows 8 to offer a more balanced and well-liked user experience.
