WageProof is reasonable compensation software for CPA firms and S-corp owners. It sets a documented W-2 salary for an S-corp owner-employee from public Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) wage data, and produces a PDF report that shows where every number came from. The IRS requires an S-corp owner who works in the business to take a reasonable salary before taking profit as distributions. The IRS sets no percentage and no dollar figure: the salary is what the business would pay someone else for the same work in the same area. WageProof builds that figure from the work the owner actually does. How it works: The owner, or their CPA, lists the owner's duties, such as bookkeeping, sales, operations and management, with the share of time each takes and the owner's proficiency at it. WageProof matches each duty to a BLS occupation and prices it at the BLS wage for the business's local wage area. The data covers 750+ occupations and 6,000+ job titles across 500+ U.S. metro and nonmetro areas. Approaches described in the IRS Job Aid: - Cost Approach: a task-by-task build-up of the owner's duties, weighted by time. - Market Approach: the BLS wage for the one occupation that best matches the owner's role, at their experience level, in their local wage area. - Income Approach (for tax professionals): the Independent Investor Test, using the company's financials. The report: Each report is a PDF with the full methodology, a BLS source citation for every figure (occupation code, wage area and data year), and sample salary resolution language for the company's records. For CPAs, EAs and tax advisors: Tax professionals get a client dashboard and cloning of prior-year reports. Annual plans add a questionnaire clients fill in themselves, and the Professional and Firm plans add white-label reports carrying the firm's own branding. Pricing: A single report is $199, with no subscription. Annual plans for tax professionals: Starter $499/year for 10 reports, Professional $999/year for 30, or Firm $1,499/year for 60 ($24.98 per report). Audit support is included with every report: if the IRS asks about your report, we'll support you.
