VyOS is a strong router and firewall that is easy to configure and has strong documentation. Since the product has a significant userbase, many of the common problems and pitfalls have strong documented solutions. VyOS doesn't seem as efficient as other offerings in the field, both open source and closed source, such as pfSense. The inefficiently causes larger instances to be required for supporting a significant amount of traffic. While maintenance is infrequently needed, when it is, the upgrade process can be difficult and convoluted. Sometimes, upgrades can require significant configuration changes to maintain performance.
