Vultr's managed Kubernetes has come a long, long way. This thing is always online, and a breeze to upgrade. Customer support is fast and excellent. Vultr's K8S implementation is easy to implement with the complex technologies we use, such as Istio. We rely of on Vultr for our ecommerce services business, and it needs to run every day. We're a small team, so everything we can do to reduce our spend, in both time and material, means the world. I've honestly got no complaints at this point. Anything I can do to avoid Amazon, Microsoft, and Google is a boon, and Vultr gives me everything I need so I can continue avoiding these privacy-invading, customer-last businesses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Vultr has the absolute lowest cost plans that are not available on competing platforms. Its user interface is quite good, and it supports modern technologies on it's management portal, such as Fido U2F second factor authentication. They have a huge variety of cloud compute options available to suit most needs, and the cloud compute plans are highly customizable. I'd like to note that they offer two distributions of BSD and at least one Windows option in addition to the standard Linux-based cloud compute OSes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The pricing structure for cloud compute is a bit opaque. Different tiers are only available at certain data center locations, and some only work with certain distributions of the OSes they offer. In practice, this means that I am quite often trying every combination of data center locations [within the US since I am US-based] and OS options (except for the Windows options) to find the one that best matches my needs for the price I would like to pay. Compared to competing IaaS provider, Linode, their equivalent tier hardware is not priced as comptetitively. However, I would be willing to pay relatively more for the cloud compute plans if it allows me to cut costs by using less hardware resources as long as the Operating Systems offered for those plans are viable for my needs. Their dashboard is easy to use and understand. I set up a complex server config with storage and a database with compute and it all took less than 15 minutes, this is amazing. I am an experienced web dev. with knowledge of DevOps and setting up servers is regular to my skills.

I believe Vultr is a well-developed server hosting platform. from ease of use to server performance, it is really fast and stable.

I have used multiple plans of servers for my personal and commercial uses and never had issues setting them and using them for daily needs.

Compared with other service providers out in the market, Vultr is one of the best and recommended platforms for DevOps.

As someone who has used most providers in this field as part of his business, I always look for a balance between power/cost/complexity (complexity could be included in the cost, as it takes more time to set up and manage, but in the end is relevant enough to add on a review to make it easier to understand).

Vultr will not deliver all the functions you may find in the "big names" like AWS or Google, but for the majority of the users, looking for a cloud hosting service provider, that's a good thing.

The majority of the users won't use those services anyway, and with Vultr you can keep the power, for less money and with a straight list of services that may be useful for the majority of the cases.

So, what I like the most about Vultr is the ability to set up a server in a couple minutes, with easy to implement solutions already combined if you want, without giving up in the resources departmenet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

As much as I appreciate their dedication in staying as independent as possible, and that strategy may payoff in the long term (or not), for now, it may be the reason it's possible to find a little cheaper providers with similar offers. Again, I won't say that it's something that I clearly dislike, since it makes sense in a lot of ways for the long term, in the short term, using as example their CDN effort, which I don't use, is an investment that has to get their money from somewhere, and where one may question if it's the best path, when it's a field already a bit late to get in. I took out trial subscriptions at several VPS providers recently and ended up choosing Vultr, mainly for features and ease of administration.

Availability worldwide is good (saving me having to learn different systems), signup was quick (unlike one otherwise good provider where the signup took days because "we don't work weekends"), and it's possible to add extra administrators (unlike my old provider who forced me to share my password and turn off 2FA).

Features are generally good - I particularly wanted to be able to boot from an ISO image so I could set up full-disk encryption, and I wanted to be able to reboot the server and enter the encryption password via the console from a phone, which is suprisingly hard to do with almost all other providers. It's nice to know DDoS protection is available if I need it - I had to leave a previous host because of a DDoS attack. Pricing is competitive, backups and extra storage options are better than most, though with room for improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The biggest downside for me is that outgoing mail on port 25 is completely blocked (even after raising a support ticket and waiting several days). It's not too hard to send mail through a third party instead and that works well, but why should I have to go to all that trouble? At least incoming mail is still allowed, unlike some competitors.

The size options are fairly rigid and it's not possible to simply add a bit of extra disk capacity, for example. Extra "block storage" can be attached but it's a hassle getting it mounted and encrypted and the help is not good. Again, why should I have to go to all that trouble?

I find the pricing structure confusing. In principle I like the cloud approach where you pay only for the resources you actually need - in practice though, it's very hard to predict what the next bill will be, and I need more certainty than that. They're generous with credit to allow you to find out how much you will actually use and that's appreciated, but it only lasts for a month.

I'd hoped to be able to take a snapshot backup of the whole server (perhaps as an ISO) and store it off-site to help with setting up new instances quickly or transferring to a new host, but I accept that it's not really possible unless you're restoring to identical hardware so I've had to give up on that. Vultr has a great UI expereince, super simple to create VMs in a matter of just a few minutes. They also allow you to upload custom ISOs, so your not limited to what is available in their catalog. Depending on the region and SKU (AMD High Performance, I'm looking at you...) Vultr VMs that depend on low latency connections are not worth it due to network/shared host CPU performance issues. We ran into issues deploying two PBXs to Chicago with the AMD High Performance SKUs and ended up rolling back to the cheaper last-gen Intel SKUs because of it. The most thing I love about vultr is the performance of its servers. LIke they were literally fastest out of 4-5 cloud providers I use. I usually use object storage, database and servers for me and my clients. Integrating and implementing servers was quiet easy and customer support is nice too.
