I have been using the SDK from more than a year, as of now i don't see any fallback apart from the pricing if you are planning to go commercial with the SDK. Free Usage allows pretty much everything needed to run the application on mobile devices. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like its compatibility with Unity and the feature that allows to test the application without the need to deploy to a mobile device. Vuforia is able to do many different things, such as recognition of different types of visual objects (such as boxes, cylinders, and planes), text and environment recognition, and VuMark, which is a combination of picture and QR code. Also, using the Vuforia Object Scanner, you can scan and create object targets. Also, large community provides hands on experience and feedback as well as tutorials about how to use download, install, setup, and use for different platforms. In my experience, the use of my storage is too much. It could be reduced. I have not bought it but it would be better if it is offered free for students. One of the downsides is that it is not 100% free software, although they do have a developer tier with 1,000 cloud recognition and 1,000 targets for free per month. As of my experience, I did not encounter any serious issue with Vuforia, some quality of image tracking issues in low light conditions and focus through application build with Vufoira SDK and unity. but it could be customized if opened into android studio. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Vuforia is best available SDK for Unity users, Easily integrates and supports cross platform deployment with Platforms like Unity.

Free version gives enough support to create application for Small purpose but scaling the application to business level would be expensive as the enterprise account is quite expensive to use.

Target detection is not that good and anchors placed are not always detected even when lightining conditions are good. Though Vuforia widely integrates with ARCore but Functionalities like Virtual button and mono audio Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

QR Code or Image Target detection in Vuforia is the best across all the major SDK's which include ARCore and others. As an AR Developer I find that the detection is precise and that camera running out of field doesn't effect the placement of the object. I am not a big fan of the plane detection feature in Vuforia, as I think that there can be a lot of work done it. it is not efficient as compared to other SDK's in the market. Although the creation of it is easy, the end result isn't as satisfying as I expect it to be, the place varies when we change the orientation of the phone from Landscape to Potrait and the size of the 3D models get shrunk which also affects the animations on to it. Vuforia is one of the best engines for those using Unity, as it is now integrated and full of examples and plugins that make different types of integration possible even for newbies.

One of the points against this engine is certainly the price, the most expensive among the various engines.

It is a solution that exists since many years and that proved to work in lots of different contexts and on different devices (e.g. HoloLens, smartphones, etc...). Sometimes I would prefer a more permissive free licensing, but it is right to pay for high quality products.
