It connects to your cloud accounts and servers and runs backups on a schedule, into storage you own. Provider snapshots are created inside your own account on DigitalOcean, Hetzner, Vultr, Linode, AWS EC2, AWS Lightsail, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure, and stay restorable from that provider's console whether or not you keep using VPS Snaps. Everything else is written to your own S3-compatible storage (Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, DigitalOcean Spaces, Wasabi, UpCloud or any custom endpoint) or your own Google Drive. Most backups go straight from your server to your storage; the few that pass through VPS Snaps are streamed in memory and never stored. What it backs up: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and MongoDB; managed Postgres on Railway, Render and Coolify; Docker volumes; any file path; Kubernetes namespaces, using Velero when it's installed; Cloudflare DNS zones; and WordPress sites through a free plugin. It can scan a server and set up matched file and database jobs for WordPress, Laravel, Craft CMS and Ghost. For machines with no inbound access, a small Docker agent connects outward and runs jobs locally. Recovery: restore from the dashboard onto the same server or a new one, and check a backup against its checksum without restoring it. Scheduled test restores rebuild your newest backup on a throwaway server in your own cloud and alert you if it doesn't come back. Recovery servers rebuild a lost server on your own cloud account, with a warm standby and automatic failover by IP or Cloudflare DNS on higher plans. Paid plans add uptime monitoring and status pages, setup from Claude Code or Cursor over MCP, and continuity plans that check your recovery targets against what your backups actually do, with the evidence mapped to SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA. Alerts go to email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat and Discord on every plan. The free plan backs up one server, forever, with no credit card.
