It's easy to run pentests **What do you dislike about vPenTest?** If you want to install the vPenTest on a dedicated piece of hardware it will take some doing. You are probably best of running this in a VM. There's an error in the Bash script that will cause the Installer to think you do not have enough room on your hardware box. After much troubleshooting i've found that the install script looks at your hard disk space as MB's instead of GB's. Probably an Ubuntu issue. This product opens eyes about regular things for what we assumed was secure, but infact was not. We scheduled a teams meeting after the first internal scan had ran to discuss the outcome. Not a very big issue, but we are a Windows company so it would be nice if the agent can run from a Windows client. Reporting is cake (though it takes a few days to compile). It seems to have quite a bit of promise as a platform. They were extremely helpful in assisting us ( DO NOT GO THROUGH KASEYA for assistance...goto vPenTest directly for any issues or assistance. I would strongly recommend you set up your trial/assistance through vPenTest directly. The support we recieved rivaled anything. That cannot be understated. If we test the product again (which is likely), we've been assured that they'd be happy to assist in troubleshooting all issues. **What do you dislike about vPenTest?** The trial is much too limited to really test a lot. We weren't able to do the scripted walkthrough. We had a number of failures to properly update/contact the test nodes we setup. The executive report doesn't detail even basics about number of test run. The confidence from a sucessful test leaves a lot to be desired. EG. Just says it passed and no Vulnerabilities found. It should say something like, "ran X number of port scans, y number of vulnerability probes against x number of endpoints. No vulnerabilities found. " The amazing support mitigated the issues dealing with vPenTest. Deal with them directly. That was the difference be a negative review and a potentially promising Service in the future. **What problems is vPenTest solving and how is that benefiting you?** Automating PenTesting and Security Assessments. **Official Response from Trammie Anderson:** > Thank you so much for your feedback! The only possible gripe I might have is that vpentest pretty heavily alerts via email. In this day and age I think instant communication platforms are much nicer. Internal and External Pentesting was super easy and efficient. Installing the Agent on a VM, setting it up for use, and linking it to an assessment was super easy - even allowing me to set when it can run the tasks during which hours of the day helped mitigate unnecessary network traffic during work hours. After the assessment run, the reporting was conclusive and precise. And the range of reports generated was very diverse, from the executive to the technical summary. Once you get the hang of it, using this service is a breeze. The most value to the consumer comes through the systematic process of testing itself. With a human pentester, you are subject to the skill, knowledge, and ability of the tester, so your results are extremely dependent on who you hire to conduct your test. With vPenTest, you know precisely what you are getting and can easily understand the findings. **What do you dislike about vPenTest?** It lacks in aggressiveness. I understand it's designed not to break the environment, but there are a lot of areas where I wish it would push the envelope a little further and make more noise. The other drawback is you do lose the X factor of human creativity with vPenTest. Vonahi allows me to rapidly test my network infrastrcuture at scale, if there is a change to the IP allocation or architecture I can retest rapidly without having to retain a penetration testing provider at astronomical costs. For an MSSP providing testing services the Vonahi service is outstanding as it allows you to test at restest your clients environment as required. Using Vonahi as an automated testing service also allowed me to reduce my reliance on a seperate vulnerability management tool, if it finds a vulnerbaility the automated testing platform WILL exploit it. A HUGE downside is the pricing model, no medium size MSP will be able to make use of the limited scans/month and make the cost worthwhile. No small business wants 3/4 scans a year, most will do 1 if they want to at all.
