## Whois Reviews
  ### 1. How useful to use Whois

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammed A. | Technical Project Manager , Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Whois?**

What I find most valuable about Whois is its ability to provide transparency in domain ownership. This transparency is crucial for verifying the legitimacy of websites, which is particularly important in combating online fraud and phishing attacks. By allowing users to easily access information about domain registrants, Whois plays a key role in maintaining trust and security on the internet. Additionally, it helps businesses make informed decisions when purchasing domains and ensures they are dealing with credible entities.

**What do you dislike about Whois?**

One major downside of Whois is the lack of privacy for domain owners, as personal information such as names, addresses, and contact details are publicly accessible unless privacy protection is enabled. This exposure can lead to unwanted spam, cyberstalking, or malicious attacks. Additionally, inconsistent data quality across different registrars and jurisdictions can make it difficult to fully trust the accuracy of Whois information, reducing its effectiveness in certain cases.

**What problems is Whois solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Whois solves several key problems related to domain ownership and internet transparency. First, it provides a way to verify the ownership and registration details of domain names, helping users avoid fraudulent websites. This benefits businesses and individuals by ensuring they are dealing with legitimate entities online, reducing the risk of scams or phishing attacks.

Second, it helps with domain management, offering information on registration dates and expiry, so domain owners can prevent accidental lapses. For businesses, this helps maintain their online presence and avoid losing valuable domains.

Lastly, Whois supports cybersecurity efforts by providing critical information for tracking and addressing malicious activities online. It assists in identifying bad actors and preventing cyber threats, contributing to a safer digital environment.

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2023

I have to agree with some regulators since the beginning of the GDPR that the amount of data that was made public was very in-depth going and in some cases scratching at an Individual's privacy.
