"VMware Workstation Pro is my lab backbone as a SOC Analyst"
5/5
What do you like best about VMware Workstation Pro?

I'm a SOC Analyst in a small security team, and Workstation Pro runs my entire lab setup. The snapshot feature saves me constantly. Before I open a suspicious file, I take a quick snapshot of my Windows VM. If the malware destroys the system, I revert in seconds and keep going. I also run multiple VMs on one machine — Kali Linux for testing, a Windows target, and a Splunk instance for log analysis. The virtual network editor lets me isolate the whole lab from my host network, so even if something tries to spread, my actual laptop stays safe. Performance is solid even with two or three VMs running, and dragging files between host and guest just works. For a small team without a dedicated lab server, this is a perfect all-in-one solution. What do you dislike about VMware Workstation Pro?

The resource drain is real. With more than two VMs active, my laptop fans spin up and the host gets sluggish. I had to max out my RAM to 32 GB just to keep things usable. The price is also hard to swallow if you're paying out of pocket. My work covers the license, but I know colleagues who stick to the free Player version because they can't justify the cost for a personal lab. Nested virtualization can be tricky too — I've had Hyper-V refuse to start inside a Windows VM, which breaks certain training setups. It's not a daily problem, but when it hits, it's frustrating. "Reliable Virtual Labs with Flexible Testing Tools"
4/5
What do you like best about VMware Workstation Pro?

I like using VMware Workstation Pro for running multiple systems at once on a single computer while keeping each environment isolated. This makes setting up test labs fast, helps me experiment with servers easily, and ensures my host OS remains untouched. Snapshots are a standout feature for me, allowing quick reversals when mistakes happen, making the process reliable and efficient. I find it useful for creating tiny labs where virtual machines connect without affecting the core machine, and shared folders and drag-and-drop features make daily tasks smoother by cutting out unnecessary actions. Over time, it feels consistent and dependable, like an old tool that just works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Workstation Pro?

Older computers often struggle under big virtual setups, particularly when multiple instances run at once. Booting up might drag on following major patches, whereas RAM demands spike sharply during extended use. Tricky network or peripheral options tend to confuse beginners, requiring extra time. "Simplified, Stable, and Cost-Effective Virtualization with Great Community Support"
4.5/5
What do you like best about VMware Workstation Pro?

I like its simplified, scaled-down, easy-to-navigate UI compared to vSphere. It works seamlessly for virtualizing devices, and it’s very stable when it comes to performance. Support is great as well, especially since you can find most answers in the community forums, which makes troubleshooting issues much easier. Overall, it’s very cost-effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Workstation Pro?

Whenever there’s a new Windows feature upgrade, VMware Workstation Pro tends to run into compatibility issues with the updated OS features. So the integration with newer OS realeses does not always work well Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Workstation Pro?

I found the initial setup of VMware Workstation Pro to be pretty challenging. It requires at least a basic understanding of networking to configure everything correctly, especially in terms of handling virtual links added to the PC. This can be difficult for those who are not familiar with networking concepts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

VMware Workstation Pro is widely appreciated for several standout features, especially by professionals like you who work in systems engineering.

Robust Virtualisation Capabilities,Snapshot and Clone Features,Snapshot and Clone Features,Integration with vSphere/ESXi Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Workstation Pro?

1.High Resource Consumption

Running multiple VMs can be heavy on CPU and RAM, especially if the host system isn’t high-end.

It’s not ideal for lightweight or older machines.

2. Cost

It’s a premium product with a relatively high license fee compared to free alternatives like VirtualBox.

No free version for professional use, which can be a barrier for small teams or individual developers.

3. Limited Mac Support

VMware Workstation Pro is not available for macOS. Mac users have to use VMware Fusion, which is a separate product with its own quirks.

4. Complex Licensing and Activation

Some users report issues with license activation, especially in corporate environments with proxy or firewall restrictions.

5. Occasional UI Lag

The interface, while functional, can sometimes feel dated or sluggish, especially when managing many VMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"One of the top Industry Type 2 Hypervisor that streamlines virtualization"
5/5
What do you like best about VMware Workstation Pro?

VMware Workstation Pro is an essential tool for my profession as a cybersecurity engineer and I have been working with it since 2015 during my master's degree in the UK until this moment, with current usage for my profession's daily work. VMware Workstation Pro facilitates the deployment and testing of workflow processes implemented across multiple operating systems (guests) hosted on a single host machine.

VMware Workstation Pro streamlines administration through its powerful competencies. The customization flexibility offered by VMware Workstation Pro such as snapshots, cloning, advanced networking and resource allocation allows for simulation of compound virtual environments.

Among the prominent factors that I like best about VMware Workstation Pro are:

Ease of implementation and use

Seamless interface navigation

Ability to deploy, test and export VMs as OVA/OVF

Ability to take a snapshot for easy reversal to a previous state during lab testing phases Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Workstation Pro?

I started my exploration into virtualization with Oracle VM VirtualBox, which is free. Among the major drawbacks of working with VMware Workstation Pro is the cost of acquisition, even though you get what you paid for compared to other commercial and free virtualization tools in the market.

Sometimes, a loss of performance is also noticed on the host system, but this is logically due to the amount of resources available on the host environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

VMware Workstation Pro is an essential virtualization tool for any technical expert who works with different operating systems on a daily basis. Workstation Pro's robust virtualization options make creation, testing, and administration easier. It runs more smoothly than competing software, and I enjoy the ability to capture and clone features. It also enables the usage of different OS versions at the same time. The unique characteristics and smooth interface of Workstation Pro make managing several versions of OS simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Workstation Pro?

When multiple distinct operating systems were running on VMware, there were intermittent interruptions. Furthermore, it imposed restrictions on the use of low-configured host machines. One of the primary drawbacks is that it is more expensive when compared to free alternatives such as VirtualBox. While Workstation Pro is an effective product, its complexity and high purchase price should be considered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
