The deduplication and compression are spot on with what we were told that we would get. We are getting a 1.5 deduplication ratio. VMware vsan tech support is great. Easy to work with and get a hold of. I am happy with my purchase. This will eventually replace our EMC VNX2 SAN. **What do you dislike about VMware vSAN?** I do not dislike anything yet. We have been running the technology for 3 months now. **Recommendations to others considering VMware vSAN:** Great technology. It has now been out for a few years and it a major player in the HCI space. I evaluated 4 other HCI vendors before making my decision. **What problems is VMware vSAN solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were out of storage and our server cluster was 5 years old. We were able to align our storage and vmware server cluster refresh cycles by moving to Dell vSAN ready notes. We trippled our storage capacity and refreshed 5 year old dell servers. ### 2. The beauty of this product is the simplification of storage and storage management, while delivering more performance. vSAN gave us visibility at the storage layer through the virtual layer. It enabled both compute and storage to be delivered to the VMs through a common virtualized platform. **What do you dislike about VMware vSAN?** Obviously vSAN license are in addition to a vSphere licenses, so cost is one factor. **What problems is VMware vSAN solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main benefit I liked about it was no dependency of SAN protocol. vSAN is a hypervisor converged storage that is optimized for vSphere virtual infrastructure. It results in take the whole host down and out of the cluster **What problems is VMware vSAN solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have implemented vsan on places where we normally would have install physical storage ### 4. So that I'm synced into all the programs I use when accessing or making any orders or changes for my customers **What do you dislike about VMware vSAN?** It sometimes is set an hour ahead of what time I usually is. **What problems is VMware vSAN solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sales, orders, mobility, basically any telecommunications issue is quickly accessible, in one place and able to be solved using VM-WARE. ### 5. It’s basically an all-in-one software for all my IT needs for cheaper than most competitors. **What do you dislike about VMware vSAN?** The software is fairly flawless, so I wouldn’t say I dislike anything. **What problems is VMware vSAN solving and how is that benefiting you?** VMware allows my business to run my business applicatoins and IT problems away from the branch, which helps tremendously in problem solving. ### 6. Adding storage is very easy and can be done by adding extra disks to your current vSAN host servers-cluster. **What do you dislike about VMware vSAN?** Its overhead, 10% of your host CPU overhead has to be considered to run vSAN. But in a larger environment, this might be a small value and can be ignored. **Recommendations to others considering VMware vSAN:** CPU overhead can be reduced by finding out an easy algorithm that can be used for parity and disk read and write cache **What problems is VMware vSAN solving and how is that benefiting you?** The existing storage on blade servers can be effectively utilized with this. No separate Storage admin team is not required to configure or manager this vSAN.
