I am used to have a san and controllers. We have been using it for a few years now. There really isnt anything I dont like about the solution. It eliminates the requirement of storage administrator. If vSphere administrator has sufficient knowledge of storage, he can administer the vSAN also. The storage performance is very good. It made the whole cluster a fault tolerant system. It can tolerate disk failure, host failure, even rack failure. It decoupled the storage from underlying hardware and the supported compatilbe hardware list is so long. vSAN has two flavors: hybrid - that can use magnetic disk and All flash- used with all flash disk. The vSAN health check monitoring is also very easy that are integrated into vCenter and it is improving day by day. **What do you dislike about VMware vSAN?** The pricing model is per socket based which is not suitable for small customer. The cost per socket is also too much high. The yearly SnS price is high also. **Recommendations to others considering VMware vSAN:** If your are in problem of scaling storage and your current environment is running on vSphere, then you consider VMware vSAN. **What problems is VMware vSAN solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were looking for a storage solution that can be easily scaled and managed. Although there were several options, we chose vSAN because we have already vSphere in our data center. Since vSAN is already integrated into kernel we only need to push license key to activate it. No new hardware purcahse was required , so no procurement time needed for hardware procument and shipment. ### 44. Setup and implementation takes a couple of minutes and has a very user friendly interface. Management is integrated in the same VMware Vcenter console which we all love and know. Our data center is virtualized, but we lack a processing redundancy. We use vSAN for the purpose of data redundancy. It removes the single fault point we had, and we don't have to buy more SAN. It is a great technology because it includes all the disks on the hosts, which belong in the vmware cluster. You may lose a single physical server without losing any data in a replication category on all disks. And deploying vsan is very fast. ### 49. VSAN requires at least three servers (one for a witness, two for data); however, we use 4 servers to vsphere where we can maintain a host if necessary. In order to use these cards in their traffic, we connect 10 GB cards to our servers. Without being worried about the vsan datastore, we have updated our Vmware server. It is a software with vsphere for vmware users. ### 50.
