It's an acceptable solution to install in small size, remote-branch VMware environments, easy to implement, decent performance, if the customer already has a need for VMware virtualization so thath it needs some ESXi host anyway, also the economics could work, particularly for small RoBo setups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about VMware vSAN? Basically still inferior to other solutions on the market, for example losing a disk in OSA mode equals losing the entire node. ESA mode disk requirement (at least 4 SSDs) is high for small setups. VMware support must definitely improve, documentation, which is lacking information on crucial points, eg. encryption and data compression behaviours. When counting up VMware licenses and hardware cost, the TCO isn't competitive compared to other HCI solutions nor to traditional SAN hardware. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
