What do you like best about VMware NSX?

The most valuable benefit it's brought to the organization is the ability to monitor all the networking devices from a single panel. NSX really simplifies management and makes configurations at scale a breeze. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

A high level of expertise is needed for NSX to be designed properly so that it doesn't bring down the whole system when a single component fails. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VMware NSX:

NSX is a great product once it's fully set up and you get used to it. It does help to reduce both CapEx and OpEx in the long term but the switch to NSX and adaptation are not very seamless and it might take quite some time. For all the people considering NSX, I recommend hopping on the bandwagon as long as you have business needs that you think NSX might meet. The product is still new and needs to evolve. That will happen much easier if more people embrace new technologies despite the learning curve that usually comes with adopting them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware NSX solving and how is that benefiting you?

We mainly use NSX for high-level orchestration and load balancing. The system provides very good features for redundancy and enables us to have a solid infrastructure that will make the business continuity plan to get in fifth gear very quickly if need be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VMware NSX?

NSX offer Micro segmentation. In addition to this it offers DFW, Routing and Load balancing features in house.

Any administrator with basic networking knowledge, in a couple of days, can be in full control of their networking without going through a networking engineer.

Now the NSXT version 3.1 above help and mitigate lots of bugs in the prvious version. You can manage numbers of Vcenter through the centralize control. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

NSX V version is having adobe flash player dependency which makesh it clumsy for some time.

What problems is VMware NSX solving and how is that benefiting you?

As per my practical knowledge and benefits utilized in enviornment, Below are the benefits.

1) Bridging Layer 2 ‒ NSX for vSphere offers VXLAN to Layer 2 VLAN bridging capabilities. The

bridge runs on the ESXi host where the distributed logical router control VM is located. Multiple

bridges are supported per distributed logical router. Layer 2 bridging provides an effective means

of migrating existing workloads with static IP addresses from an existing physically defined VLAN

to a software-defined virtual network. However, the implementation of Layer 2 bridging increases

the complexity of network troubleshooting and blurs the boundary between virtually defined

networks and physically defined networks.

2) Routing Layer 3 ‒ The NSX Edge gateway interacts with the physical network in the same way as

a physical routing device and has the same logical and physical properties as a physical router.

From an operational perspective, this simplifies network troubleshooting and issue diagnosis

compared to using the distributed logical router interface, which must instantiate a logical

distributed routing interface to a single physical interface for the physical network interoperability.

The NSX Edge gateway supports equal-cost multi-path (ECMP) routing. This provides the solution

scalability to support increasing amounts of North-South traffic over time, as the number of workloads and

client side traffic on the virtual networks increases.

3)It offers semmless DFW rule creation to limit the traffic from source to destinations and vice versa Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Transformative Data Center Technology"

What do you like best about VMware NSX?

It is transformative, continues to evolve and pushes the current boundaries in the Data Center networking space. Prior to NSX-T Data Center, no one was truly doing network function virtualization. VMware introduced an entirely new way to think about networking and they have continue building on top of that. Also, the product allows you to scale to accommodate for growth but doesn't hamstring you if you decide you want to pivot a different direction as your needs change. What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

I can't think of anything about the product I dislike. I wish it was in more places :) I see a real use case for it in the whitebox switching arena as well as routing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware NSX solving and how is that benefiting you?

In becoming a VMware organization, the logical question was how do we secure east west traffic between servers? Best practice is to put it closest to the source and that made NSX-T Data Center the logical choice as it does it at the hypervisor level before the packets even hit the wire. The second conversation was how can we increase flexibility and speed to implement networks. By utilizing the routing capabilities of NSX-T it gave us the ability to route within the VMware environment and prevent unnecessary hair-pinning of traffic. What do you like best about VMware NSX?

Simplicity of configuring NSX as well as flexibility regarding starched VLANS in both datacenters. It was a relief to se how smooth the solution was deployed and adopted in the organization. Practically, the whole proces is pretty straight forward, and a qualified VMware partner leverages the implementation process of setting up NSX infrastructure. Practically, the whole proces is pretty straight forward, and a qualified VMware partner leverages the implementation process of setting up NSX infrastructure. The addon was to have the opportunity to work with VMware and Zerto set of products in creating DR scenarios which gave us the flexibility across all datacenters and platforms (Vmware, HyperV...) Recommendations to others considering VMware NSX:

If a customer is not in a position to have stretched VLANs on primary and secondary datacenter site i would recommend using NSX. When using with other VMware products (Automation, Site Recovery Manager and Replication) it is a very useful tool to create DR scenarios tailored on a specific service needs. In my case I had the opportunity to test Zerto as well in creating and carrying out live and test failovers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware NSX solving and how is that benefiting you?

We managed to deploy VLANs across physically dispersed datacenters that enabled us to configure DR solutions tailored on different service solutions. Addon that came from Zerto is the possibility to create DR scenarios in a heterogenous infrastructure (VMware, HyperV zOS) which would not have been possible with only VM ware set of tools. What do you like best about VMware NSX?

The thing I like the most about NSX is that it gives you granularity in applying policies. And, distributed firewall gives protection at nic level. Other than that distributed router is also a good feature which makes it easy to route traffic between ESXi hosts among different VMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
