"Centralized Management, Streamlined Operations"

4.5/5

What do you like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

I really like how everything in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is integrated into one platform, simplifying day-to-day administration by bringing compute, storage, networking, and virtualization together. The automation for deployment and lifecycle management saves a lot of time, especially during upgrades. It's scalable too, which means as our infrastructure grows, we don't have to rethink the whole setup. Once configured correctly, it's stable and dependable. The lifecycle management tools and built-in automation are particularly valuable for updating and patching the infrastructure. I appreciate its integration with vSphere, vSAN, and NSX, which function together without much manual configuration. The centralized monitoring is another great feature, making it easier to spot issues early. Overall, it's made managing our environment a lot more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

One thing that could definitely be improved is the initial deployment and configuration process. It's quite complex, especially if you're setting it up for the first time, and the documentation can be overwhelming at times. Licensing is another area that could be simpler because understanding the different options isn't always straightforward. Upgrades are much easier than doing everything manually, but they can still take a while in larger environments. I also feel the overall cost can be high for smaller organizations, so it may not be the best fit unless you're managing infrastructure at scale. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) to simplify managing our virtual infrastructure by consolidating compute, storage, and networking into one platform. It reduces manual work, optimizes resources, and makes consistent provisioning easier, solving many day-to-day operational headaches. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"VMware Cloud Foundation: Unified Platform That Automates and Scales with Ease"

5/5

What do you like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

What I like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is how it combines 3 to 4 core components like VMware vSphere, VMware vSAN, and VMware NSX into 1 unified platform, which reduces the need to manage multiple tools separately; it easily cuts down around 30 to 40% of manual operational effort through automation like lifecycle management, patching, and upgrades, and can be deployed in just a few hours instead of days, while also supporting scalability across 100+ VMs and enabling seamless hybrid cloud integration, making it a reliable and efficient solution for modern infrastructure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

One thing I dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is that it can feel a bit rigid once deployed, as it follows a predefined architecture which limits flexibility for custom configurations, and making changes later can take 2–3x more effort compared to more modular setups; it also has a dependency on tightly integrated components like VMware vSphere and VMware vSAN, so if one layer has an issue, it can impact the overall stack, and troubleshooting across multiple layers can take several hours instead of minutes, especially in complex environments, which can slow down operations at times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) solving and how is that benefiting you?

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) solves the problem of managing fragmented infrastructure by bringing compute, storage, networking, and security into 1 unified stack, eliminating the need to handle 3 to 4 separate tools and reducing operational complexity by around 40 to 50%; with components like VMware vSphere and VMware NSX working together, it simplifies deployment, automates lifecycle management, and reduces manual errors, which has helped improve system reliability and cut down provisioning time from a few days to just a few hours, while also enabling smoother hybrid cloud adoption and better scalability for handling 100+ workloads efficiently. "Simplifies Enterprise Virtualization"

5/5

What do you like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

What I like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is honestly how it just makes life easier when you’re dealing with infra, like instead of juggling 3-4 different tools for compute, storage, and networking, everything is bundled and works smoothly together, which saves a ton of headache. Setting up a full environment that used to take like 2-3 days can literally be done in a few hours, so you’re easily saving like 70% of your time there. The upgrades part is also super chill compared to traditional setups stuff that used to take 20-30 hours of planning and manual effort is now kind of streamlined. Coming to cost, yeah upfront it’s not “cheap cheap” like you’re easily looking at tens of thousands of dollars depending on scale, but over time it balances out because you don’t need separate storage arrays and extra tooling, so you can save like 25–30% on infra costs overall plus less ops overhead. The NSX networking and micro-segmentation is another big win, gives way better control and security compared to old school setups. Overall, it feels like a solid investment bit pricey at the start but worth it long term because it saves both time and money and makes the whole system way more manageable. What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

What I dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is that even though it looks clean and well-integrated, once you get into real usage, things can get pretty complicated, especially when something goes wrong. Troubleshooting isn’t always quick because everything is tightly coupled, so you might end up spending hours sometimes even a full day figuring out whether the issue is in vSphere, vSAN, NSX, or somewhere else. Also, let’s be real, the cost is kinda heavy upfront, like you’re easily looking at $30K to $100K+ depending on your setup, so for smaller teams it feels a bit too much. There’s also a bit of vendor lock-in, because once you’re in the VMware ecosystem, switching or integrating other tools isn’t that flexible. Upgrades are definitely better than traditional setups but still not completely “one-click easy,” you still need to plan downtime and monitor things carefully. Another thing is the learning curve if you’re new, it’s not something you just pick up in a day or two, it takes time to actually get comfortable with all the components. Overall, it’s powerful for sure, but yeah, it can feel complex, expensive, and a bit restrictive at times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) solving and how is that benefiting you?

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) mainly solves the mess of managing separate tools for compute, storage, and networking by bringing everything into one integrated platform. Earlier, setting up and managing infrastructure used to take days and a lot of manual effort, but with VCF it’s mostly automated, so the same work gets done in a few hours, saving around 60 to 70% time. It also fixes consistency issues since everything is standardized, so fewer environment-related problems. Upgrades and lifecycle management are much smoother compared to traditional setups, which saves a lot of effort and reduces risk. Even though the upfront cost can be around $30K to $100K+, it helps save roughly 25 to 30% in the long run by reducing extra tools and operational overhead. Overall, it just makes infrastructure easier to manage, more reliable, and faster to scale. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"One-Click Patching and Built-In Zero Trust Security with SDDC Manager"

4.5/5

What do you like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

According to me, the SDDC manager is clearly the best capability it offers which allows us to patch vSphere, vSAN, and NSX in a single click.

Personally, the zero trust security has come in handy since the NSX is directly embedded into the hypervisor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

There is a lot of force bundling of features that leads to higher costs sometimes. There have been instances with myself when I required very basic virtualisation and I did not want to use NSX, but there was no way to move forward without paying for these four components and it affected my budgets. So I think this is something that can be improved over time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) solving and how is that benefiting you?

No more infrastructure silos and fragmented tooling

A self service IaaS also improved developer onboarding and provisioning

Automatic life cycle management integrations helped to reduce overhead maintenance Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Unified Management with Effortless Deployment"

5/5

What do you like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

I really appreciate not having to jump into five different consoles anymore thanks to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). The new installer worked flawlessly the first time, and the Kubernetes integration is solid. I like that the new VCF installer and fleet management in version 9.0 actually make deployment and patching manageable, which means fewer weekends ruined. The installer saves me from Excel's hell, and fleet management gives me a single unified dashboard where I can manage everything across my environment. The initial setup was very easy and proficient. I also use VCF automation heavily in our CI/CD pipeline as it connects to our GitHub and GitLab repos to trigger pipelines when code gets pushed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

The pricing is too expensive; we're paying around $350 per core, and that’s before any discounts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"High-Performance Private Cloud with Impressive Workload Density"

4.5/5

What do you like best about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) excels at delivering an incredibly high performing, rock solid private cloud that squeezes maximum workload density out of enterprise hardware, especially with modern capabilities like NVMe memory tiering and near bare metal GPU virtualization for AI workloads. The UI has also come a long way, doing a better job of centralizing compute, storage, and networking, and the automated deployment experience can drastically cut down onboarding time.

That said, the platform is still highly complex under the hood. Post acquisition support responsiveness can be hit or miss, and the strict per-core subscription bundling creates a steep financial barrier to entry if you don’t actually need or won’t use every part of the full software defined stack. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)?

VMware Cloud Foundation can be a real headache to navigate day to day. Jumping between vCenter, SDDC Manager, and NSX just to get things done feels like the product was designed by committee rather than by someone who actually has to use it. Getting it to play nicely with tools outside the Broadcom world is more effort than it should be, and the API experience is inconsistent enough to slow down any automation work. Performance-wise it does the job, but it's a heavy stack and you feel that weight if your environment isn't massive enough to justify it.

The pricing situation post-Broadcom acquisition has been genuinely frustrating for a lot of organizations, costs went up significantly overnight and the new bundling model removed a lot of the flexibility smaller teams relied on. Support has also taken a hit, tickets take longer, answers are less helpful, and onboarding new teams to the platform without serious prior VMware experience is a steep climb.

The AI and automation story feels like an afterthought too, there are features there but they don't save you nearly as much time as the marketing suggests, and compared to where the industry is heading it feels like VCF is playing catch-up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) solving and how is that benefiting you?

VCF does bring compute, storage, and networking together under one roof which genuinely saves time compared to stitching those pieces together yourself. For larger enterprises that need a consistent private cloud foundation across multiple sites, it delivers on that promise reasonably well and reduces the chaos of managing everything separately.

The SDDC approach means your teams are working on a standardized platform, which helps with compliance and makes it easier to onboard new infrastructure without reinventing the wheel every time. That said, the benefits are most felt at scale, if you're a mid-sized organization you sometimes wonder whether the complexity and cost is really worth it compared to simpler alternatives.

The workload portability aspect is useful and having everything from one vendor does cut down on finger-pointing when something breaks. It's not a perfect solution but for organizations that are already deep in the VMware ecosystem, it at least keeps things from falling apart entirely while you figure out your long-term cloud strategy.
