The UI for vmware is pretty easy to navigate and very straightforward. With minimal training, we can direct people to do basic tasks like restart a VM for instance. Another thing we like is the overall performance of it. It's almost always snappy when trying to navigate. We also like the overall integrations that can be done with the tool. Broadcam has increased the price of it overall with no real value add to it. We also don't like the overall change to a subscription model. While we mentioned the integrations as a postive, we do wish there was better built in automation for vmware so we wouldn't have to write a 4000 line script just to create a virtual machine. Support is also not good. 9/10 times you have to hope that someone ran into the issue and they logged the fix for the wider userbase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. It's helping us with deploying our apps through virtual boxes and also providing a solution that allows us to create VDIs for our contractors. Also, thanks to how it integrates with our network policies, we are able to delegate the permisiions and access each contracting organization will need to perform their tasks. I like that VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is able to manage our cloud infrastructure, offering management capabilities that I haven't found in other clouds available in the market. It's pretty good, solving real problems related to cloud management. I am particularly impressed with the AI integration, where VMware is working on agentic things and bringing AI into the cloud, which I find really valuable. The AI does a good job in regular conversations and identifying support needs, which is a highlight for me. Additionally, the cost optimization aspect of VCF is also performing well. What I like most about VCF is that it genuinely takes a lot of the load off day-to-day infrastructure management. Instead of juggling separate tools for compute, storage, and networking, everything sits under one roof and works together smoothly, which saves a ton of back-and-forth. Setup and deployment that would normally take a couple of days can be completed much faster, so there’s a meaningful chunk of time saved right away. Upgrades and patching also feel far less intimidating than the old-school approach; since most of it is automated, there’s less manual effort and fewer chances of something breaking due to human error. NSX networking is another strong point. The micro-segmentation provides really solid control and security without needing to bring in additional tools separately. Yes, it’s on the costlier side upfront, but because everything is standardized, you run into fewer random issues and deal with less operational overhead over time, so it tends to balance out. What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)? Honestly, the main thing that bugs me about VCF is how tightly everything is bundled together. The moment something goes wrong, it turns into a proper headache to pinpoint where the issue actually sits—vSphere, vSAN, NSX, it could be anything—and you end up burning half a day (or more) just doing RCA. Then there’s the cost angle, which is no joke. Depending on how big your setup is, you can easily be looking at 30K up to 1 lakh+ dollars, and that’s a lot for smaller companies to digest in one go. The learning curve is also very real; it’s not something you get comfortable with in a week or two. It takes proper time and hands-on experience to understand all the pieces and how they talk to each other. And once you’re deep into the VMware ecosystem, there’s definitely a bit of a lock-in feeling too. Moving out, or even plugging in other tools, isn’t that straightforward anymore. So yeah, it’s a powerful platform for sure, but it comes with its own baggage around cost, complexity, and flexibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) solving and how is that benefiting you? VCF basically takes away the headache of managing compute, storage, and networking as separate pieces. Earlier, you’d need different tools (and often different teams) to handle each area, and just keeping everything aligned and in sync was a job on its own. With VCF, it all comes together under one platform, so a lot of the manual effort drops off and more of the work gets automated. What used to take days to set up can now be done in a matter of hours, which is a real time-saver. It also helps with consistency: because everything follows the same standard setup, you’re less likely to run into those random, environment-specific issues, which means less firefighting for the team. Upgrades and other lifecycle tasks that used to require a lot of planning are smoother now too, so there’s less risk and less stress during those maintenance windows. The initial investment is definitely on the higher side, but since you’re not paying extra for separate tools and the operational overhead comes down, it tends to balance out over time. Instead of relying on external perimeter firewalls or managing complex physical VLANs, VMware Cloud Foundation lets me attach strict, granular security policies directly to individual workloads at the hypervisor level. This integration blocks unauthorized server-to-server traffic, eliminates lateral threat movement across our environment, and simplifies compliance auditing. What I like best about VMware Cloud Foundation is that it brings compute, storage and networking together in one platform, which makes daily management much easier. Before using it, we had to switch between different tools, but now most things can be managed from a central place. The UI is mostly easy to navigate and once you get familiar with it, routine tasks take less time. I also like the integration between VMware products because it helps reduce manual work and keeps the enviroment more consistant. Performance has been very good for our virtual machines and business applications, even during busy periods. Another thing I found useful is the automation features. They help our team deploy resources faster and avoid some common human errors. We also noticed better resource utilization compared to our older setup. The pricing can feel a bit expensive, but for larger environments the value is there because it saves administration time and helps standardize infrastructure. Support has generally been helpful when we needed assistance, although some issues took longer than expected to resolve. I have not used many AI features directly, but the monitoring and management tools provide useful insights that help us make better decisions. One thing I dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation is that the initial setup can be quite complex, especially if your team is new to the platform. There are many components that need to work together, so the learning curve is a bit steeper than I expected. The licensing and pricing is also on the higher side. For larger companies it may be easier to justify, but for smaller teams or organizations it can be difficult to manage the cost. Sometimes it feels like you need additional training just to understand all the available features and options. While the UI is generally good, some sections are not very intuitive and finding specific settings can take more time than it should. During troubleshooting, error messages are not always clear, which can make problem solving a little frustrating. Support has been helpful in most cases, but there were a few times when resolving an issue took longer then expected. I would also like to see more simplifed onboarding resources for new users. Overall, VMware Cloud Foundation is a strong platform, but there is still room for improvement in usability, pricing transparency and ease of management for first time users. Before using VMware Cloud Foundation, we were managing compute, storage and networking through different systems, which made administration more time consuming and sometimes created inconsistant configurations. It was also harder to scale resources quickly when new projects came in. VMware Cloud Foundation helped us bring everything into a single platform. Now we can manage infrastructure more efficiently and spend less time on repetitive manual tasks. The integrations between different VMware components have reduced a lot of the operational overhead and made our environment easier to maintain. One of the biggest benefits has been improved performance and stability for our virtual workloads. Provisioning new resources is much faster than before, and automation features have helped reduce human errors. We probably save several hours each week on routine management activities. The centralized management interface also gives better visibility into the environment, which helps with monitoring and troubleshooting. Although the platform requires some training in the beginning, once implemented it has improved our overall workflow and infrastruture reliability. From an ROI perspective, the upfront cost is not low, but the time savings and operational efficiency have made it worthwhile for our team. I like that there's no need to configure servers one by one; you can spin up everything with just one click through the SDDC manager. I enjoy the automated lifecycle management because manually updating and patching servers is a headache and can take weeks. With VMware Cloud Foundation, it only requires a single bundle for the whole stack to apply it. The tech itself is great. The UI/UX is a huge improvement over the older versions—having everything in a unified dashboard saves our team from constantly hopping between different consoles, and the new onboarding installer cuts down a lot of the initial setup headache. The performance is awesome. We use vSAN ESA and NVMe memory tiering, and it handles our heaviest workloads easily while letting us squeeze more density out of our hardware. The integrations are super tight too, especially if you're mixing traditional VMs with containers using their Kubernetes service. As for Support and ROI, there’s a bit of a learning curve with the network setup, and tier-1 support can sometimes be a bit slow to route you to the right person. But once you get to the actual engineers, they know their stuff. The pricing shifts to the per-core subscription model definitely hurt, but the time we save using SDDC Manager to automate our patch and upgrade cycles still makes the ROI worth it. What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)? As much as I like the software, it’s definitely not perfect. My biggest complaint is the recent Broadcom pricing model. Moving entirely to a per-core subscription and pushing everything into a single full-stack bundle (including NSX and Aria) has made the total cost of ownership skyrocket. If you run hosts with lower core counts, the 16-core minimum per CPU feels like you’re being penalized for hardware you don’t even have. It also makes renewal conversations with the finance team unnecessarily stressful. On the technical side, day-to-day management is generally smooth, but the initial setup and upgrades can still be a beast. If your physical network underlay isn’t perfectly aligned with what NSX expects, you can hit a wall during deployment. It takes a lot of specialized knowledge and careful planning to get everything configured correctly. Finally, support since the Broadcom acquisition has been hit-or-miss. Tier-1 support feels slower and more painful to work with than it used to be. You can eventually reach senior engineers who clearly know what they’re doing, but getting through the initial ticketing process lately has been a real test of patience. Before VCF, we were dealing with massive “silo friction” and constant upgrade anxiety. Patching our infrastructure felt like treating compute, networking, and storage as three separate math-and-science problems. If we updated one layer, we’d spend weeks worrying it would break another. VCF solves that lifecycle management nightmare. With SDDC Manager, the whole stack is validated together, so we can patch and upgrade with far more confidence and essentially no guesswork. Another big issue it addresses for us is infrastructure bottlenecks for modern apps. Instead of developers waiting for weeks while the networking team manually configures switches and firewalls, VCF gives us a true self-service private cloud. Our devs can spin up VMs or containerized workloads through Kubernetes quickly, with routing and micro-segmentation security policies automatically kicking in. Ultimately, the biggest benefits for me and my team are time and stability. We’re no longer burning endless weekend hours babysitting standard data center operations, and our environment can handle heavy, high-density workloads without breaking a sweat.
