What do you like best about Virtuozzo?

Is perfect because it creates multiple independent virtual environments on a single physical server. This allows hardware, time and effort to be shared in systems management and sometimes even software licenses across multiple virtual environments.

VPS acts in most cases as if they were an individual server. Each VPS has its own superuser (root or administrator), user / group system, IP address (es), processes, files, applications, system libraries and configuration files. The VPS are fully accessible via network. Due to the creation of different virtualized network servers, a VPS owner can have their own routing tables and firewall rules (IPtables) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Virtuozzo?

What problems is Virtuozzo solving and how is that benefiting you?

Many problems solved since it virtualizes at the level of the operating system and not at the level of the hardware like other virtual products (VM). While the first of VMs is to virtualize "a complete hardware system," VPS represents a "lighter" abstraction. All VPS runs on top of a single operating system kernel. The VPS mechanism multiplexes this kernel of an operating system to create virtually multiple kernels thereof and dynamically allocates server resources, especially from the common-user perspective, to network users and services. Virtuozzo is based on OpenVZ, and its concepts are similar to other proposals that work at the level of virtualization in the operating system, such as Solaris products, Linux-VServer and FreeBSD Jail Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"OpenVZ Plus Proxmox = Happy Admin"

What do you like best about Virtuozzo?

The control you have over your containers is really cool.

As an admin you can jump into a running container as root with one command.

Startup times for the containers is very fast.

When used in conjunction with Proxmox OpenVZ can compete with most of the big boys out there right now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Virtuozzo?

Well there a few things.

The documentation is very comprehensive but it can still be a struggle to find guides for your specific version.

I find particularly network config and firewall config is always an issue.

Network interfaces seem to disappear from time to time randomly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Virtuozzo:

Its a steep learning curve with a lot of config.

Weigh up your options, if you are relying heavily on Linux based infrastructure in the back end then it may be a good fit.

If your a windows only house then i would stick with Hyper-V Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

All of our in house virtualization is now done through Proxmox using OpenVZ templates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"There is no alternative to OpenVZ!"

What do you like best about Virtuozzo?

OpenVZ is a very powerful opensource container based visualization platform.

Its fast and easy to use, open source and free.

There is very little overhead compared to full visualization.

Its very secure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Virtuozzo?

There really is little to dislike about OpenVz, it does everything I could wish it to.

The only problem I have faced is a quota file got corrupt but with the help of the community this was quickly rectified. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Virtuozzo solving and how is that benefiting you?

We currently use OpenVZ for development purposes as well as a few proxy/web servers.

In the past I worked for a VPS company with over 1000 clients, all using rented OpenVZ servers from ourselves and managed using SolousVM. We experienced no issues down to the software and had 99% uptime over 3 years. none of this downtime was related to OpenVZ itself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
