## Virtual Machine Manager Reviews
  ### 1. Simple Interface & Easy to use but Limited

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taher A. | IT Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

The Interface is very simple and easy to understand, The Virtual Machine Manager guides you throught the process to create the VM, Additionally, a variety of OSes are supported.

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Synology Hardware is Limited, So the VM's performance is depended on the available resources. it made the vm's unusable when I ran Vm's along side using other Synology Apps such as (Synology Directory Server, Synology DNS)
I tested this on Synology rs1619sx+

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Virtual Machine Manager to deploy windows VM's to run certain test apps, as it is easy and fast to deploy VM's and then delete them after I finish testing, and also I can take advantage of Synology Shared storage to deploy large storage VM's

  ### 2. Experienced Multi Platform supported VMM

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nileshkumar P. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Synology VMM is the best multi-platform supported VMM. Especially worked on Linux and Windows VM's and no need for any physical dependency. Configuration and management through VMM are so easy. Snapshot feature is most important for me.

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

I don't have any dislike. need to add some more additional controls and make it robust. else it is the easy-to-use and best virtual machine manager in the market.

**Recommendations to others considering Virtual Machine Manager:**

Synology is the best VMM for controlling all Linux and Windows-based guest OS VM. for all testing engineers should use this VMM to set up the environment and test the product without any additional requirement and any issue.

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Synology VMM, now I can configure and manages all virtual machines with more efficiently and use them as I needed. any Linux and Windows based OS can easily install on VMM and snapshot features of vm are most useful. it helps me in many difficult environment setups on different guest os.

  ### 3. Works and has the features needed

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan B. | Technical Support & IT Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

It's easy and simple to use with little to get in the way

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Honestly it's really pretty good, however the hardware is usually quite pricey to be able to really utilize it to its potential.

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quickly deploying virtual machine to test things, anyone can be trained to do it and they don't really need an IT background.

  ### 4. Virtual Machine Manager = Simplified VM Management!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

I have used a lot of different VM managers in my time, and Virtual Machine Manager makes it simpler than almost any of them! I could probably have my grandmother configure a VM. It's about as simple as it gets. BUT, unlike most other VM managers, the advanced capabilities of QEMU/KVM are exposed relatively easily. The main complaint often times is that VM's are too complicated to setup right, and the simple setup ones make it hard to do more advanced configuration. Not so with VMM! I can click right through a config, or I can get super deep into it. Less filling AND tastes great!

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

It has no web interface. Yeah, that sounds lame. It does everything anyone could want it to. But, if it had a clean web interface and html5 display manager for the VMs, well, then that's about all I could have ever asked for.

**Recommendations to others considering Virtual Machine Manager:**

You won't be disappointed, try it out.

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am almost exclusively involved in development. So I spin up new VMs for testing all the time, create & destroy, many times over. Having VMM at my fingertips means it's all really quick and easy to do, and I can click a few times and create a new VM, test it, and know for sure how it's going to work when I go to deploy into the cloud for a customer.

  ### 5. VMM is feature rice management console for Virtualization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Langesh D. | Test Principal Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Some of the key features are:
1) Migrate VMs from any non-HyperV OS to HyperV
2) Convert Physical machine to VM in HyperV with MAC/IPs/hostname same.
3) Allow to manage ESXi host(by providing Vcenter IP)
4) Enhanced OS deployment & Cluster deployment
5) Better Cluster management like Storage Space Direct etc
6) Managing Software defined Data center

Other Features like:
- Virtual Machine creation & complete workflow of Virtual Machine
- Cluster Management like Vmotion both Live & offline motion
- HyperV Server Management like configuration, inventory, health etc.,

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Not much extension for the Console and console is also not designed for it.
Good improvement need for GUI

**Recommendations to others considering Virtual Machine Manager:**

As Microsoft with new release cycle bi-year release of virtual machine manager, gives good number of features added every year, considering the changes in the Data Center more moving towards cloud or cloud native, good number of features add to support them. Along with Software defined Data center if another focus where Virtual machine manager handing towards. Good number of features recently added to Virtual machine manager to support and manage Software defined Data center.

Also you would be getting great support from Microsoft, also they ensure product is safe and secure.

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use to manage HyperV VMs & Cluster management to run our product on the VMs.
With Cluster management it helps to automation workflow base on the needs.
Enrich us with Powershall , which is very good for scripting
Managing Software defined Data center

  ### 6. Virtual Machine Manager Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Syeda A. | T, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Upgrades, migrations, deployment and deletion of virtual machines ( whole management of VM's)

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

A bit slow in VBOS migrations, takes time

**Recommendations to others considering Virtual Machine Manager:**

It's a great platform to manage your virtual environment, when you have multiple hypervisors (host servers) which can be clubbed and managed through a virtual machine manager. All kinda of deployments, changes can be performed. Also, can review host servers and capacity for migrations and upgrades. A Virtual Machine manager is a consolidated service to manage, deploy and decommission virtual servers, perform upgrades and all types of changes including network activity.

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Migration and deployment issues, host to host.
Hybrid, public cloud

  ### 7. Very good IaaS management software with a few drawbacks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Integration with SMI-S storage, OOB, and Network Virtualization is very helpful for deploying en masse and managing a multi-tenant architecture.

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Lack of Web GUI, very finicky placement rules, and lack of 3rd party integration unless you use SPF and Azure Pack (which is dated and does not support newer OSes). Also, the requirement of RDS adds licensing woes that are not present in most IaaS solutions.

**Recommendations to others considering Virtual Machine Manager:**

Understand the requirements thoroughly. For example, every Tenant Admin in VMM is considered a user and so should be licensed via RDS CALs. There is no GUI and with the introduction of Azure Stack, it is highly unlikely that MS would implement this in the future. So, the only option for your tenants would be to access via RDWeb or Direct RDP login. There is no direct chargeback feature and for that, you require integration with SCOM. Finally, the implementation of Network Virtualization is not straightforward so it has a steep learning curve.

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Multi-tenancy for a public cloud or private cloud scenario. The most helpful features are network, compute and storage automation. This is fairly straightforward and with the newer versions like 2016 and 2019, the implementation of VxLAN has become pretty straightforward.

  ### 8. Virtual machine management made easier.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Piyum M. | System Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Virtual Machine Manager along with the Synology Disk Station is very convenient to use. Availability of all the DSM features with virtual DSM is really helpful.

**What do you dislike about Virtual Machine Manager?**

Lack of Mac OS as guest operating system is a negative point if you are using the VMs for application testing.

**Recommendations to others considering Virtual Machine Manager:**

I would like to recommend Virtual Machine Manager to the users who are already using Synology Disk Stations. After you try out using the VMM with the Disk Station, if you feel comfortable with the VM console & features I think this product is a very much user friendly & convenient to use.

**What problems is Virtual Machine Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using the Virtual Machine Manager to host VMs for testing our production applications.
