"Versatile Media Player with Excellent Codec SupportSure! Here’s a revised version of the review with a title you can keep or change as you like: *Title:* _Why VLC Gets a 9/10 from Me_ On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give VideoLAN (VLC) a *9*. It’s free, open‑source, and runs smoothly on virtually every platform—Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. The wide codec support means I rarely need extra software to play a file, and there are no ads or hidden fees. The only reason it doesn’t get a perfect 10 is the occasional UI roughness on mobile and a few niche subtitle‑rendering quirks, but overall it’s a reliable, versatile media player I can wholeheartedly recommend."
What do you like best about VideoLan?

I consider VideoLan the best software for playing media due to its ability to improve video playback such that all videos on my PC work well. One of the standout features I appreciate is the variety of functions and tools available, which enhance the video playing experience significantly. The software allows for easy adjustments like slowing down or speeding up video playback, making the viewing experience personalized and enjoyable. The 100% natural zooming feature is another aspect I find particularly useful, providing more control over video playback. VideoLan also improves video quality, enhancing it to HD levels, which is perfect for watching movies and videos in the best possible quality. Overall, I find this tool very effective in its job as it ensures all video content plays smoothly and with good picture quality on my PC. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VideoLan?

VideoLAN (VLC) faces several areas where improvement is needed: 1. The desktop version's interface is classic, but the mobile app should align with modern design principles, offering features like dark mode and improved navigation. 2. Subtitle rendering for complex scripts like Urdu and Hindi requires better text-shaping and font fallback. 3. Hardware acceleration on ARM-based devices needs stabilization to enhance performance and battery life. 4. The streaming UI can be enhanced with features making URL additions simpler for casual users. 5. Accessibility could be improved with better screen-reader support and platform-specific keyboard shortcuts. 6. Playlist management needs cross-platform sync and advanced tagging features. 7. Performance on low-end devices could benefit from a minimalist mode. Addressing these issues will enhance technical and user experience aspects, making VLC more polished overall. "VLC Media Player: solid, reliable, and versatile."
What do you like best about VideoLan?

VLC was my main video player for years because it handles just about any format I throw at it. Playback is smooth and reliable, and I always appreciated the straightforward interface and the fact that it’s free and open source. Features like subtitle support, streaming, and customization options make it a great all-rounder for any media collection. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VideoLan?

While VLC works well, I eventually switched to Daum PotPlayer for a more refined user experience. The app interface could be improved, with slicker controls and easier access to advanced options. Sometimes navigating settings can be a bit difficult. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A must have open-source video/audio player"
What do you like best about VideoLan?

I have been using VideoLan since a really long time - early days of 2007. I have it installed on all my machines, be it for personal use and even for my professional work as well as it doesn't eats us all the available memory (RAM) like the new video player and takes only necessary GPU in use. This makes it more effective and efficient on day-to-day daily operations.

It has some of the essential and most useful options like take a snapshot while playing any video, you can play a specific part of audio or video on loop that is very very useful while you are preparing some dance steps (LOL) though these may sound very common options but at times these are very helpful.

Not just that, well VideoLan has supportability to almost all video and audio formats that makes it perfect. I use it almost every other day to play my music and video as it is set to default player and recently, I have played a 60+GB of video file (Original 8k resolution Marvel edit) and it was played flawless which shook me as it took hardly 2-3seconds.

Most importantly they keep on improving since 2007 and have continuous releases dropping which makes reliable; though if you face any major issues then you can easily uninstall and install it again, hardly takes 10mins. VideoLan is available for almost all major GUI based operating system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VideoLan?

I would like to have an option where I can search directly on web for suitable subtitle. Tough it hardly makes any difference as I can also do it myself though it would add some utility on Windows platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"VideoLan Works Better, Faster, Stronger"
What do you like best about VideoLan?

VideoLan is so easy to use and makes it a great tool that anyone can use. One of its most outstanding features is its compatibility with a vast array of file formats. Whether you're dealing with MP4 and AVI, or more obscure ones, VLC handles them all. The user-friendly interface is another major plus. It's intuitive enough for beginners but offers more advanced features for experienced users.

VLC's ability to play damaged or incomplete files is particularly impressive. It can often salvage partially downloaded or corrupted videos that other players struggle with, which can be a real lifesaver when you're desperate to watch that one video. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VideoLan?

There are some security vulnerabilities. These could allow for information disclosure and remote code execution. It can be laggy and choppy on certain formats. There can be syncing problems and freezing and crashing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
