I find Vevox to be a comprehensive and impactful tool, especially valuable for my lectures on spirituality. I like Vevox because it enables interacting with a large group of students. Even in a lecture with more than 200 students, they can express their ideas through Vevox and share them via screen display. We used Vevox for an event at the Royal Geographical Society in London, with both in-person and online audiences, and it worked flawlessly. The interactive Q&A was exactly what we needed — attendees could simply scan a QR code to join, and the moderation tools made it easy to manage which questions appeared on screen. We really liked that moderation could be delegated to others, and that we could spotlight and control content from a secondary device, meaning I didn’t have to be up in the AV suite during the event. The ability to customise what was shown on participant devices and on the main screen gave us a fully branded experience that looked fantastic. Vevox is pretty user-friendly and also aesthetically pleasing when using the web/online version. Depending on my teaching schedule I would say I use Vevox a couple times a week; definitely each time I have a lecture! I like using it not just for real-time learning checkpoints in the classroom (very handy to see where my students are at), but also, it can be good for asking e.g. students' input/thoughts via word clouds and also for responses to survey questions (even course feedback). Thanks to Fraser Hill for recently reaching out for a 1-on-1 as well, as it can be really helpful to talk through things and also hear about the latest updates (rather than always feel like you have to try to find time to read up on them via a weblink). They do regular updates and they also do try to check in with 1-on-1 chats, so if there is anything I don't like I can always mention it, rather than 'live with it'. One thing I personal don't like is the aesthetics of a Vevox poll (MCQ style) when using their plug-in, in PowerPoint. It still looks better than what we as an institution had before (competitor's software!), but I do understand there are some restrictions to what Vevox can and can't do in this respect. Just to note, they are working on it, is my understanding. In any case, I choose to share (on the second screen) the web version of my Vevox session for the students and it works pretty well. If anyone is interested, student feedback is pretty positive for use of Vevox in the classroom: students usually say it's 'fun', 'engaging', 'helps assess understanding', 'helps identify knowledge gaps', and so on. The overall ease of use of the platform, along with the ease of accessibility to user accounts make the general aspects of integrating Vevox within teaching and other activities straightforward, and much better than competitor products to which I've had access. Further to this, the range of question types which are available within the platform ensure that the use of Vevox within sessions provides real value, and from a teaching perspective, allows the tool to fully support learning, and offer formative assessment in a manner which is of real value. There is very little that I currently dislike about the platform, however, the integration for PowerPoint could be easier to use in some aspects, and most particularly in relation to the matching of slide formatting, however, I'm conscious that this may well be outside of the provider's control!
