What I appreciate most is its integration with Bright Space, our current VLE. This integration means scores from student participation are directly published into Bright Space grades, which saves a ton of time in tracking student engagement and performance. This feature is really valuable as it streamlines the grading process. I also think Vevox can be integrated with other systems, though I'm not fully familiar with those yet. **What do you dislike about Vevox?** There are certain question types I would have hoped for, especially card sorting & matching. A nice to have would be allowing Maths algebraic inputs as answers (an on-screen keyboard where students can choose some structures such as fractions, indices, roots, integrals then input their algebraic expressions). The other aspect that I don't like is that all Vevox question slides on PowerPoint add-in have the same layout and font size. Some longer questions don't display fully, but if I change the font size on Slide Master, it changes all Vevox question slides. One of my favourite approaches is using live polls to collect data from the class in real time. We then display the results and analyse them together, which opens up rich discussions about patterns, outliers, and interpretation. For example, I used Vevox to scaffold a class about sex education, and students were fascinated to see how their peers rated their comfort with the topic and the sex education they had received at school. One of the biggest problems it addresses is how to get every student involved in discussions, not just the most confident or vocal ones. The anonymity feature is a game-changer here—it creates a safer space for students to share their thoughts, questions, and opinions without fear of judgment. It also solves the problem of making abstract analytical skills more concrete. By using Vevox polls to collect live data from the class, I can immediately visualise that data and guide students through the process of interpreting it together. Depending on my teaching schedule I would say I use Vevox a couple times a week; definitely each time I have a lecture! I like using it not just for real-time learning checkpoints in the classroom (very handy to see where my students are at), but also, it can be good for asking e.g. students' input/thoughts via word clouds and also for responses to survey questions (even course feedback). Thanks to Fraser Hill for recently reaching out for a 1-on-1 as well, as it can be really helpful to talk through things and also hear about the latest updates (rather than always feel like you have to try to find time to read up on them via a weblink). I'm looking forward to using the new-ish 'before/after comparisons' option! **What do you dislike about Vevox?** They do regular updates and they also do try to check in with 1-on-1 chats, so if there is anything I don't like I can always mention it, rather than 'live with it'. One thing I personal don't like is the aesthetics of a Vevox poll (MCQ style) when using their plug-in, in PowerPoint. It still looks better than what we as an institution had before (competitor's software!), but I do understand there are some restrictions to what Vevox can and can't do in this respect. Just to note, they are working on it, is my understanding. In any case, I choose to share (on the second screen) the web version of my Vevox session for the students and it works pretty well. If anyone is interested, student feedback is pretty positive for use of Vevox in the classroom: students usually say it's 'fun', 'engaging', 'helps assess understanding', 'helps identify knowledge gaps', and so on. **What problems is Vevox solving and how is that benefiting you?** First and foremost, it helps with the drop in attention as the clocks ticks on during a given lecture. No matter how engaging we try to be as educators, a 9am start time can be tricky to navigate. In-class 'fun' tools, such as Vevox, really helps me to create a time-out and sort of hit the refresh button. Interestingly, I have noticed (from a quick headcount) that not all students present in the room may log into Vevox (and this is something I am interested in exploring further), but engagement is nonetheless high with this tool and the variety of Qs we as educators can ask via Vevox can be really helpful. One of the things I like to do, as an example, is check student's knowledge and sense of Déjà vu. Yep; I like to usually for revision polls, re-use previous Vevox Qs, from earlier on in term, and then drop hints that they've seen this before... Further to this, the range of question types which are available within the platform ensure that the use of Vevox within sessions provides real value, and from a teaching perspective, allows the tool to fully support learning, and offer formative assessment in a manner which is of real value. **What do you dislike about Vevox?** There is very little that I currently dislike about the platform, however, the integration for PowerPoint could be easier to use in some aspects, and most particularly in relation to the matching of slide formatting, however, I'm conscious that this may well be outside of the provider's control! **What problems is Vevox solving and how is that benefiting you?** Vevox allows me to easily provide students with the ability to answer questions related to teaching content in class, acting as both a driver for the delivery of class sessions, and also to measure students' understanding of content such that I can structure my ongoing teaching support accordingly. The anonymous feature allows students to engage without being anxious about being embarrassed if they select the wrong answer. However most of these have been addressed with updates. Q&A tool works great with both Teams and Webex **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Mary C. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2023 **What do you like best about Vevox?** Although Vevox offers a variety of audience engagement tools, we almost exclusively use the Q&A functionality. We like it because it offers SSO authentication (a requirement from our IT dept) and integrates well with MS Teams and Webex so users can access the Q&A tool from the same screen as the ongoing presentation -- way better than the clumsy, built-in Q&A on both apps. Because you can launch it right inside the Teams/Webex window, there's no need to send users to another browser window or their cell phone to ask their questions. We like the ability to have our audience vote up questions so when it's time for Q&A, we can sort them by "most liked" and answer the most popular questions first. Our training sessions can run from 200-500 attendees and this tool let's us be very efficient and maintain order when we get to the Q&A portion of the session. There's also the ability to moderate questions if you'd like, and you can also enable users to ask questions anonymously. Our presenters appreciate seeing the question we're currently answering fill the screen -- it gives them a little time to think about what they want to say be seeing it vs. just hearing someone read it. As the audience asks more questions, they automatically appear on the screen so we don't miss seeing new questions. We also like having the ability to download all the questions that have been asked once the session is complete. The customer support team has been super helpful, checking in with us on a regular basis to ask for feedback and providing assistance on the rare occasions we've needed it. **What do you dislike about Vevox?** The only room for improvement on the Q&A tool would be to enable the REPLY capabilty for all users in a session, not just admins. **What problems is Vevox solving and how is that benefiting you?** Vevox integrates well with MS Teams and Webex so users can access the Q&A tool from the same screen as the ongoing presentation -- way better than the clumsy, built-in Q&A on both apps. And when it's time for the Q&A portion of our meetings, we can fill the screen with a list of the questions we've received, with the most popular questions listed first. Polling can be used for quizzes and surveys can be used for knowledge checks. Q&A can be used for classes, workshops or conferences. The variation of types of question is good too allowing for mixing up the types of responses that can be given. Vevox is very intuitive and after staff get access, they very rarely need any guidance on how to use it as it's so easy to get going with. **What do you dislike about Vevox?** There are a couple of features currently missing that staff like in other products such as music (to bring a sense of urgency when quizzing) or colours/icons for answers rather than text. **What problems is Vevox solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a quick simple survey tool it helps to monitor students progression, understanding and feedback on courses and materials. The Q&A allows interaction in conferences and Online/Hybrid sessions without requiring a more formal platform to be logged into. Users find the web link easy to access and use with little/no instruction. Connecting to a session is very quick and easy. The data collection is also highly valuable and can be reviewed with all activity captured and saved. Creating short poll questions with answers takes only a few minutes to make any virtual training session interactive and engaging. Once the list of questions is created, we only need to insert the ID numbers into the Vevox app (that was added to the team meeting beforehand). **What do you dislike about Vevox?** No "faster correct answer is rewarded with more points" option exists, so an intense quiz competition is not easy to create. I also miss the team competition option, where we can pre-create teams that participants can join and run the quiz as a group challenge. **What problems is Vevox solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quick integration into Microsoft Teams (as a build-in App). Participants can join the quiz or fill in the survey questionnaire during the virtual meeting.
