## Vectorworks Architect Reviews
  ### 1. Visually Friendly, But Updates and Weak BIM Make It Hard to Trust

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Compared to AutoCAD, it is much more visually friendly, having all the plans stack is convenient, rather than AutoCAD's separate files.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

It is not the future. It BIM capabilities are lacking behind that of Revit. Hardscapes don't work well, tough to model slabs, and every update changes so many things, there is no point updating software, as it will mess up your drawing files.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are slowly getting better (it is more a more stable program with less bugs / crashes), but Nemestchek has chronically under invested in Vectorworks to the point that we consistently consider switching the office to Revit. Take some money from Bluebeam here ya'll.

**Official Response from Elena Pantazopoulos:**

> Thank you for providing such honest and detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you find Vectorworks Architect visually appealing and appreciate the convenience of working with stacked plans in a single environment. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with BIM capabilities, site and slab modeling, and the impact of updates on existing files has caused frustration and raised concerns about long-term compatibility. Your insights—particularly regarding stability and comparisons with Revit—are incredibly valuable. They help us prioritize improvements to reliability, BIM workflows, and update behavior, ultimately making the software easier to trust for complex projects.

  ### 2. Crippling problems ruin otherwise great software

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The software at an initial level is pretty user friendly, good layers and classes system for drawing on. Rendering has improved a lot in recent years.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The software advertises itself as being suitable for BIM workflows, and it frankly isn't. Bugs are prevalent throughout the software, and new implementations are added with each edition year after year which are half finished and never revisited.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Use Revit instead.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vectorworks is fine for 2D drawing. Now that we have moved into 3D modelling and BIM, Vectorworks simply does not cut it. If you are planning to use Vectorworks for any BIM process, avoid it and go instead for Revit.

  ### 3. An horrible case of bloatware

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Don't like it at all, and would like to replace it with alternatives

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I started using this architectural software when it was minicad 2.5. At that time it was mac only, elegant, intuitive and great to use. A forerunner in its field. Vectorworks is a horrible piece of software that has remained in the 1980s. To do anything one has to open multiple dialogue boxes which are all unintuitive and confusing. It is a case of software engineers being given control of the user interface. Someone, with proper user interface expericen, has to take it back to the basic and rewrite the software from the grounds up.
Also the pricing structure sucks. To be forced to pay $600 every year for a something that does not add anything is unacceptable.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Renovation projects in London

  ### 4. Vw, great looking at the expense of UI

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2016

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The lighting feature is great to simulate how light travels in the space you design. I think that's the coolest feature.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The interface is OK, but it could be better. Rendering times are incredibly slow, and I've had colleagues who had their computers crash because of the program. Applying textures is also daunting.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

If you're an architect, I recommend this program. If you're an exhibit designer, you might want to stick to SketchUp and Adobe. The sheets feature is very cumbersome, but if you're an architect and are willing to work through it, then your cut sheets will look better. I honestly can think of a lot of what SketchUp has that Vectorworks could be replaced with. It's so much easier to use. I've also had files become corrupted and I work on a MAC where that rarely happens.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No business problems. I used this program as a student. I don't see any benefits, and in fact I use SketchUp now for any spatial designs.
