The AI is quite possibly the best I've seen in the market, and the support is great. The integrations are kind of "it is what it is", new integrations we've requested went ignored, however the one that are there are mostly solid. Oh yeah, and the check list wants me to talk about performance. The performance is fine. The performance is not the issue. **What do you dislike about Vanta?** The customisability is limited, as is the visibility in the audit, and this has caused friction with our auditors. Our auditors are one of the big four so this is not like were doing something out of the ordinary.The friction with the auditors is the big minus and the fact that you have to pay more because for customizability on an already pricy product puts it as a "meh" for me. I don't know that it genuinely gave more value than an massive excel that the auditors could have edited in advance. That would saved us missing tests that the auditors deem as basic but weren't ****ing there and we couldn't add in Vanata. **What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?** The GUI is very nice and very organized. Everything is captured and tracked in one main location, which means I don't have to go hunting around in multiple places to piece together information related to enterprise risk management or management's risk mitigation plans. This centralized repository allows all updates to be reflected there, and reporting can be had from that one central place. It really helps tremendously, particularly for external audit readiness like for SOC 2, as it provides a clear picture of where we stand with outstanding documents and tests we've passed, so we always know our standing. **What do you dislike about Vanta?** There are some manual processes in Vanta that make things cumbersome. Specifically, in the action tracker, the notes section is a manual process where people can overwrite things that are already there. I don't get automatic notifications when someone makes updates, so I have to manually check if updates have been made. It's a bit of a pain. **What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Vanta to centralize evidence and documentation for external audits and risk management. It keeps everything in one place, helping us with audit readiness and knowing our status on documents and tests. ### 3. I like the risk management features as well. Vanta's ease of use is something I really appreciate, with everything collected in one place, making audits so much simpler and quicker. Having the ability to flag failing tests throughout the year is also a huge help, as it saves us a lot of work correcting issues later. **What do you dislike about Vanta?** It can be a little bit hard to find the features. I feel like maybe the top-level naming could be clearer. Some of the drop-downs and things don't have tooltips that would make them a lot easier to navigate. For example, when you're doing a review of a vendor, there's something called a security owner and a business owner. I actually don't know what those mean, so I just kind of guessed. Adding more tooltips with explanations like, 'hey, this is required' or 'why this is required' would be very helpful. Trying to find things in documentation or trying to figure it out with an AI is kind of painful, and I would prefer not to have to do that. **What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Vanta for managing SOC 2 compliance documentation, making audits simpler and quicker. The AI performs terribly compared to other modern models and constantly hallucinates answers or makes up something far worse than just using previous examples to the same question. It also can't help being overly verbose to every single question. Add on to that the fact the UI has bugs, is very unintuitive, can't manage attachments, and still can't fill out portals means it's barely worth using above just manually answering questionnaires. For instance, when we're submitting SOC2 proofs, we have to send a lot of them directly to the certifying body instead of uploading them directly to Vanta. I do not need to work hard to get where I need to go. **What do you dislike about Vanta?** - If you are not using AWS and Github, the platform doesn't look like it was built for you. You will require large changes to default content. In particular the policies, where there is a helpful policy builder (the automation is excellent) but the content that acutally needs to be changed is the catering for AWS etc. Also the automation breaks down, because as soon as you need to edit the policy, you exit the helpful automation tool and then you are left to manually do things... - There are 'help' sessions that I can book, and I booked one, only to realise that there are no support/help sessions that are in my timezone. 1am is pretty rough to go to one. **What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?** Vanta is solving the manual management process and helping keep good habits to also meet compliance requirements. ### 25. We wasted our first year because it turned out no customers really needed SOC2 from us. As the IIT admin, I hadn't made the choice to adopt this -- I didn't even know it exists. Soc2 in general is a joke, it's a hurdle you must jump through to seem 'legit'. Vanta makes the compliance process pretty simple, however For 11 K a year or whatever they're charging, it's too much. Other services are quite a bit cheaper that should offer the same quality of tooling. We're a bit stuck with Vanta just because I can't imagine wasting anymore time on this soc 2 nonsense. Know that whatever tool you chose you're going to be with for a while just because the onboarding process takes a while to get things setup. **What do you dislike about Vanta?** It's expensive for what it is. It's great to be able to just point Vanta at cloud environments and let it do the heavy lifting! **What do you dislike about Vanta?** Vanta is only really useful as a utility towards ISO 27001 compliance - it lacks fundamental aspects of the standard for it to be the sole tool to achieve an ISO 27001 certification. Really fundamental and mandatory parts of the standard are lacking, such as the statement of applicability. In addition, the risk management does not take all of the BAU risks of an organisation into account, instead only providing valid output against technical controls or some policy controls. **What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?** Vanta has been a very effective way for the clients I work with to learn and understand ISO 27001 through the in-built templates. I am not sure how useful these templates would be in an audit scenario as they are generic to the point of almost being meaningless, but they do provide an illustrative example of how the standard works. ### 41. For example, it auto tracks all employees and installs an agent on their machine to make sure you have malware protection and encrypted hard drives. **What do you dislike about Vanta?** A lot of the checks are not necessary. Things like the Vanta agent “check the box”, but they don’t actually add a lot of security. It’s not super configurable. You can link Datadog, but when it looks for monitoring on certain things, it only looks at CloudWatch. Why even allow to link Datadog?? When linking your ticketing system, it assumes the `Security` label means p0. If that’s not the convention you use, tough luck! **What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?** SOC 2, continuous monitoring. It’s nice to be alerted when things go out of compliance or when new servers pop up without monitoring, or when vulnerabilities pop up. ### 43.
