The upsides of using USU is that the solution is highly customizable and you can really have the tool do whatever you want it to do, depending on the license metrics you own and the capabilites of discovery sources at your organization. One challenge that we have is the number of options that we have when configuring signatures, creating product use rights, etc. Having a pre-selected or OOTB configuration for common products (MSFT, IBM, Oracle, etc.) as a starting point would be really helpful. Another limitation is that you need to know software licensing to use the tool well. Not all users of the application will have SAM knowledge coming into their use of the tool. They have provided true guidance as we have established the program and are extremely responsive when greater detail is needed. As you might imagine, there have been significant challenges as we have developed our program and USU has assisted greatly. They provide in-depth analysis when requested and have been extremely helpful as we have dealt with vendor challenges/audits. They interact well with our technical staff and maintain a good rapport.
