UserTesting is a well-known platform where you can complete simple tasks and assist companies in gathering valuable feedback from potential customers. Occasionally, they provide tests to participate in, but unfortunately, being chosen for these opportunities is not easy. I don't like that it seems nearly impossible to be selected, and overall, the opportunities they provide are very limited. In contrast, I am able to work regularly with other platforms. I really appreciate UserTesting for its ability to allow me to listen to audio and watch videos while coding the transcript simultaneously. This feature facilitates a seamless flow in reviewing research and brings a degree of efficiency to my work. Moreover, I find immense value in UserTesting’s panel sampling and recruitment features. These functionalities greatly enhance my process of gathering qualitative market insights and user feedback, which is crucial for the validation of designs and product bets. I wish I had more control over how I code in UserTesting and the ability to save quotes directly within the app. The current functionality doesn't allow for this, or I don't understand how to do it, and I find myself missing features like those offered by Dovetail, which our organization doesn't have access to. UserTesting is by far the fastest way to conduct unmoderated testing with live participants. They have a growing list of functionality that is desirable in a product (survey, moderated, unmoderated, first click, etc. etc.). The customer success managers are responsive and attentive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about UserTesting? The quality of the participant pool is not great. Often, participants are not truly eligible for the study they have screened into. Additionally, I dislike that I am unable to see user names in the new survey functionality. Additionally, it's difficult to recruit on UT for any group beyond general market (specific banking customers, commercial customers, private client, small business). I would also appreciate the functionality to double-screen before a participant is deemed eligible to participate in a study, similar to UserInterviews. I find that increases the quality of respondents and weeds out those who are untruthful on screeners. While UT has all functionality you'd want (surveys, moderated, unmoderated, etc.) it seems that they continue to just add more new products to their roadmap before fine tuning the existing products. For example, in the unmoderated features, there is no way to randomly present more than 2 different prototypes. You can only counter balance with two. Overall, it seems as though UT has focused on mergers and acquisitions and diversification of products, and in that time their competitors (UserInterviews, MeasuringU, Dovetail, etc.) have eclipsed them in quality because their competitors focus on a single product (moderated interviews, for example with UserInterviews) and become best in class for that specific product. Proprietary recruitment takes a long time and requires immense human power. Having the ability to just launch to a pool of people is the biggest benefit UT provides. Not so good for testers." 3/5 What do you like best about UserTesting? Well at one time it used to be a good source of income for people who could test out apps and websites. The payout was decent, even good in some cases. Screening used to be simple enough. Test plans were decent. Tech was simple and it worked. Customer support used to be responsive as well. I used to use it a lot back when all these things were good. Maybe it's still good for the companies. In short: - great for making side income - great for learning testing on live production apps for career testers - tech was great - nice variety of tests across different domains - shopping, IT, HR, ecommerce, etc Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about UserTesting? Now everything is not so decent. Screening is tough has heck. Test plans are long and payout isn't good or on par, depending on where you are. Tech problems are too many nowadays. Freezes, slow downs, errors. It's very bad sometimes. Customer support isn't helpful at all. Time is wasted and there's no remuneration for it. And when you get paid, it's peanuts nowadays. Not at all the good income stream for testers and QAs who would put their heart and soul into testing a nice variety of apps and websites to make a nice side income. Ratings are unfair sometimes and arbitrary. It seems like your hardwork is valued very rarely, on whims, just so that the testers don't get paid what they're owed. They take too much time reviewing tests and you can't even screen for other tests in that period. Test opportunities are sporadic and not consistent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. It is one of the more thorough options in the unmoderated testing space. Low level of trust in their panel - a lot of "testers" that come across as falsfiying screener responses for incentives. The product itself is pretty limited in terms of test flexibility. Doesn't go in-depth in any particular research capability area. UserZoom acquisition doesn't seem to have fully happened and/or provides any additional benefit. Junky integration after consolidating so many companies. Was forced+upsold for hundreds of thousands of dollars to get access to additional tools not integrated into their ecosystem. It will take years for them to fully integrate. That means we get access to tools that do not talk to each other, that work differently, different customer service reps, different everything. You have to relearn every one. Many of them have poor usability. Also, each of them have their own upselling and pricing models. They are different companies which UT has linked from their main site.
