## User Interviews Reviews
  ### 1. Unpaid research participation – No effective participant protection

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Khalil G. | Technical Communications Contractor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2025

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

Truly, there is nothing I like about a platform that allows its dishonest clients - researchers - to exploit participants and collect insights for free, as attendance and completion are determined solely at the researcher’s discretion. Sincerely.

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

I completed a 1h30 research interview on this platform run on behalf of a large, well-known company (Bluehost). The study was fully completed, and I provided detailed answers throughout (video interview).

After completion, the researcher marked me as a “no show.” and did not respond to my messages.

I then provided screenshots and evidence of my participation to User Interviews, which refused to process the promised incentive, stating that attendance and completion are determined solely at the researcher’s discretion, with no independent verification or meaningful appeal process.

In practice, this means a researcher can collect insights and withhold payment without consequences, even when evidence is provided by the participant.

I invested significant professional time based on a guaranteed incentive advertised by the platform. The experience revealed a serious imbalance of power and a lack of participant protection.

I would strongly caution professionals and consultants against participating in studies on this platform.

It proved to have no respect for your time and value.

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a respondent or participant, User Interviews helped me secure decent extras paid by clients who value the returns and expectations of their actual or potential users.

  ### 2. Ironically, the UX is terrible

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Russell G. | Principal UX and CMI Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2024

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

I love the concept and the features...it's really a shame their recent redesign has made using the platform so annoying.

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

A recent redesign of their website has made key features frustrating to use — which is ironic, given this is a tool designed for user experience professionals. In particular, paying participants and editing screeners are now unnecessarily complicated. The UX team seems to be over-engineering things, with endless windowshades and tabs within tabs.

For example: when editing a screener, a windowshade opens. If you accidentally click outside of it, your work disappears — I lost 20 minutes this way. It’s inefficient and frustrating. I would have rated the platform a 9 if not for these design issues.

Editing participant numbers per session is also poorly designed. If session durations are short, the session details aren’t visible, so it’s unclear how to adjust the participant count. This level of friction has me seriously considering competitors. Launching a study feels like a constant struggle, and managing participants isn’t straightforward.

There are some obvious usability problems as well: for instance, banners sometimes cover error messages. It’s clear this company needs to bring in experienced UX professionals. My company has actually started moving to alternatives — this tool is not cheap, and there are many other vendors out there that offer a better experience.

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recruiting quality participants.

  ### 3. not waste your time here

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jiangqin M. | AI Data Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2025

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

The payment is high list in the task, if you qualify, it will be great

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

I spend some time here, but have never got payment, every time seems I am not qualify, and the time you spend on screen questions not get pay

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

spend a lot of time on the screen quesitions, but not get pay. and hard to qualify for join in the survey.

  ### 4. Not a delightful experience

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 08, 2024

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

Not a great deal to add to this section sorry

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

I can see from demos that it can be a useful tool once set up. But without the ground work, it's not easy and intuituve. The UX and UI aren't delightful. It's bland and clunky. I am also based in Australia, and was often offered times for support in the middle of the night (US times).

The cost for recruitment is also quite high.

It was very hard to get the team excited about this product.

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We tried to use it for user research. We are a complex company where building our own list of users would have needed a salesforce integration. I understand that is on the roadmap.

  ### 5. You get money for doing tasks

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan M. | Records Management Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2023

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

It's great that you get updates about what studies are going on in the area.
I typically see studies that are in the $150-$250 range, which is definitely worth my time.

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

I wish that you could filter the email notifications to studies that are local to you. For example, I'm from Seattle but I get emails about studies in California or Michigan. Not helpful

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I want money, and user interviews gives me options to connect with ongoing user research studies that will pay me money for my time.

  ### 6. They actually tried to recruit our staff. Unbelievable.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2020

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

The app worked, even though it was expensive and many of the interviewees didn't show up.

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

We were paid users, and they actually sent an email to our staff with the subject "Are you getting paid enough?"

Body: "Knowing your worth is incredibly important to negotiating a fair salary. This week we've pulled together the best available data on what user researchers earn on average based on experience, company size, and where they're located."

Then, they had a section in the email: "UX Research Jobs" where they listed open jobs for UX researchers!

Unbelievable. We are customers!!! Could you imagine contacting you contacting the staff of YOUR customers, and trying to recruit them away as a job board.

Stay away from this company, and unsubscribe from them. Anyone who would make such an insane business decision to treat their customers this way CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be trusted.

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Connecting with potential and current customers to learn about pains. User Interviews facilitated the meetings and the payment of gift cards.

  ### 7. Unprofessional

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nanda D. | Language Teacher, Retail, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2019

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

I dont like anything about them. Most of the time you dont qualify and when you do they don't call you!

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

Everytime i got accepted for surveys and scheduled a time to participate company would never call me.

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefits is to not be associated qoth them.

  ### 8. Rude support, payment is always by gift card

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Relations | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2019

**What do you like best about User Interviews?**

More straightforward than most focus group sites.

**What do you dislike about User Interviews?**

Feedback provided to staff is met with curt responses. Customer service just is not one of their concepts.

**What problems is User Interviews solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Stopped using them due to poor service.
