## About Upwork
Upwork is a freelance hiring platform and work marketplace that connects businesses with independent professionals across more than 10,000 skill categories. It functions as an end-to-end solution for sourcing and managing contingent workforce needs — from project specialists to long-term contractors — without the overhead of full-time hiring. Businesses of all sizes use Upwork to fill skill gaps, execute complex projects, and scale results without adding headcount. Creating an account and posting a job is free. You pay only once a contract begins. Most clients hire within three days of posting. There's also no need for a fully defined scope to get started. You can browse freelancers by skill, experience level, location, and availability, review work histories, and save profiles as you define your needs. Upwork covers a broad range of disciplines, including web and app development, AI engineering, design, finance, customer support, marketing, writing, and consulting. You can hire individual freelancers or assemble multi-person project teams. Upwork is particularly well suited for businesses that need specialized expertise quickly, including freelancers who combine deep domain knowledge with AI tools to amplify their output and deliver results more efficiently. Key platform capabilities include: AI-assisted matching — Uma™, Upwork's Mindful AI, analyzes project details like skills, budget, scope, and timeline to surface relevant freelancers. You can also search and filter independently and invite specific candidates to apply to your job. Transparent freelancer profiles — Evaluate candidates through detailed profiles, portfolios, verified work history, client feedback, skill certifications, and badges. Message or interview freelancers before starting a contract. Flexible contract types — Choose between hourly contracts, billed weekly based on logged hours, or fixed-price contracts funded in milestones, depending on how the work is structured. Built-in payment protection — For fixed-price projects, funds are held in escrow and released only upon client approval. For hourly projects, logged hours can be reviewed before billing is finalized. Centralized project management — Contracts, messaging, milestones, timesheets, and payments are managed from a single dashboard, with dispute assistance available if issues arise. Upwork is primarily used by business owners, hiring managers, and procurement teams looking for a faster, lower-risk alternative to traditional staffing or full-time recruitment, whether for a single project or an ongoing contingent workforce strategy.

## Upwork Reviews
  ### 1. Upwork gives me freedom to live remotely and do what I love!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James C. | Senior Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I love the flexibility and freedom to be able to support myself with freelance work from anywhere in the country. I've met amazing people as clients and my skills have grown through new challenges. Upwork is what you make of it... and yourself. Upwork makes things easy and helps handle some of the "business" side of contracting so I can focus on my work! I've used Upwork for over 6 years and the site and services have only improved for the most part!

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Upworks monetization practices can feel unfair sometimes. Buying connects to bid on jobs is expensive and it feels random whether buying ads actually helps you or not. Hourly contracts can just ask for a refund and you just won't get paid.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork gives me a steady stream of clients and handles billing them and organizing many details of the contracting process.

  ### 2. Easy Hiring with Affordable Rates

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like that Upwork makes it easy to find virtual assistants at a low price. The review system is also great because it ensures that virtual assistants can't mess up work and encourages them to try hard. The initial setup of Upwork was easy, which is a huge plus.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

It's hard to leave honest reviews because the VAs will know right away, and they often request to fix it to be good.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Upwork to hire VAs for website development tasks like building or fixing sites. It's easy to find VAs at low prices. The review system ensures they maintain high-quality work.

  ### 3. Convenient but Costly Freelance Platform

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Timothy S. | Owner/ freelance accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like Upwork for its ease of use and the flexibility it offers, which allows me to work flexible hours. Setting it up was also very easy, and I appreciate that about the platform.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

They do not side with freelancers and keep increasing their fees. They want all of the proof of claims or errors from the freelancer. The client files the dispute and you have to prove it wrong.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Upwork to earn more income remotely, enjoying its ease of use and flexible hours.

  ### 4. Upwork is a safe and easy to use platform for freelancing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kali B. | Publishing Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like that Upwork offers a level of protection for both clients and freelancers, and it is fairly easy to use. We can conduct business from bidding, interviews, and file management. Meetings can be set through the platform. And payments are easily parsed through it. I've been using the platform for over a decade and my experience there has been largely positive.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

The only downside may be that some clients find the steps required to hire a little daunting because they are not used to the UI--but the chat help has always been exceptional, so it's only a momentary shock for the less tech savvy but not a complete deterrent.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handling the payments is a great help, especially in terms of maintaining records. But the general setup in the workroom helps record keeping and project management.

  ### 5. Great Selection, Easy Setup for Hiring

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neil F. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like the wide selection of candidates from around the world, with many working to accommodate US time zones. I also appreciate the wide variety of skills available on Upwork. The initial setup was very easy for me.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Contracts can sometimes not protect the buyer against bad work

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Upwork to find programmers who can automate my trading algos, offering a wide selection of global candidates with various skills who can work in US time zones.

  ### 6. Reliable, Professional, and Efficient

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad A. | SQA Engineer & Customer Support Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

What I like best about Upwork is the flexibility it offers. I can connect with talented professionals worldwide, choose projects that match my skills and interests, and build long-term client relationships while working on my own schedule.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

What I dislike about Upwork is the high service fees, especially for newer freelancers. It can also be quite competitive, which sometimes makes it harder for skilled freelancers to stand out. That said, the platform overall still provides great opportunities once you establish yourself.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork is solving the problem of access connecting freelancers with clients worldwide in one secure, reliable platform. It eliminates the need to chase payments or spend time finding opportunities on your own. For me, it’s been a huge benefit to have steady work options, flexible projects, and the ability to collaborate with clients I might never have reached otherwise.

  ### 7. Platform functions well, but there aren't enough quality opportunities.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

The Upwork software is very easy to use. It's a clean platform that is easily navigable. Features are intuitive. The help section is thorough enough that I've been able to find answers to all of my questions.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I dislike the lack of quality work opportunities, particularly for someone who is mid-level or higher in their level of skill/expertise. The amount of jobs available for more than $50/hour is small, and many jobs are posted with rates that are insultingly low. I'm not sure if this is a result of people using the platform who don't understand the nature of freelance work, or if there are many people from outside the U.S. (who can afford to be paid lower due to favorable exchange rates) using the platform. Often when I find a job that's in my acceptable pay range, it's very competitive. This has kept me from being a regular user of Upwork. I mainly pop in and apply for jobs when I have a lull in my workload.

I received a gift card for sharing my honest review.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork connects me to businesses who are looking for freelance work. It is easier and more straightforward than other means of finding freelance work, such as networking or promoting my services via LinkedIn.

  ### 8. Wide Freelancer Selection, But Review System Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

There are a ton of freelancers for just about any project where you need help. With one or two exceptions, the work has been very well done and completed on time.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Both freelancer and person/group contracting review each other. This can change the reviews. It's hard to be completely honest when you know you may be dissed. I don't entirely trust the review. I've run into 2 situations where I've been disappointed in the work. When you contract for a project with set hours, the hours are billed and paid immediately with very little chance to review the work listed. If you disagree, you have to contest the charges that have already been paid.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freelancers available for immediate needs.

  ### 9. Reliable platform for global freelancing, but with challenges for new bies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Basit P. | Virtual Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Upwork provides a vast range of freelancing jobs in industries. The fields include like, writing, design, technology, and marketing. The platform is easy to use. By using filtering features, I can identify jobs that fit my skills and hourly wage. The milestone system is ideal for long-term projects, which provide assurance to both the freelancer and the customer. The built-in time tracker and dispute resolution mechanism are commendable because they protect my money if complications arise.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

The service cost is extremely hefty, particularly for younger freelancers who have not yet achieved the reduced-price level (the first $500 with a customer is deducted 20%). Furthermore, the competition can be fierce since some jobs receive dozens of candidates in minutes. I wish the platform did more to reduce spam job postings and check customer earnestness. Finally, the Connects system is an unneeded impediment.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform, Upwork, allows me to generate income remotely without relying on local employment markets. Being a Pakistani, I get a chance to deal with customers from all over the world, and many of them pay more than local job markets. This flexibility has enabled me to sustain myself while pursuing other objectives such as preparing for Competitive exams. It also creates a global portfolio that is applicable beyond the platform, which also helps me to generate income.

  ### 10. Effortless Commissioning with Upwork

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James S. | DevSecOps Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I used Upwork to commission a watercolor artwork painting, and it was easy to use. The platform allowed me to collect bids from several artists at once on a single platform. It was simple to use for the first time, and I didn't have any issues. Both the mobile app and website were good, and setting up was simple as I just logged in with Google.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

None

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork lets me collect bids from several artists on a single platform, making it easy to commission artwork.

  ### 11. Mostly great, a lot of potential

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emily P. | Manager of Care Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

-Great way to connect with clients
-Interface is slick, both desktop and IOS
-Setting up account and getting paid both straightforward, well designed

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

-Not enough clients offering projects relevant to my expertise
-Many of the relevant jobs offering pay not appropriate for US based professionals

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work full time in my industry but enjoy doing projects on the side. Upwork makes it easy to do this.

Regarding whether or not Upwork is heading in the right direction, I think I am seeing more junk type jobs in my "for you" section. I was also invited to apply for some special Upwork designation, spent some time/money applying for it, and then was denied. Felt like a scam. My confidence in Upwork is declining and I am spending less time on it. That being said, I still value Upwork and believe it can improve.

  ### 12. Easy to Find the Right Freelancer Fast

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa B. | Freelance Newscaster , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

It's easy to find a freelancer to complete a job I need done.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

There are so many freelancers that narrowing them down can take some time.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping me find an experienced person fairly quickly.

  ### 13. Effortless Freelance Collaboration, Highly Recommended

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paula Louise H. | Founder

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I use Upwork for professional tasks like resume writing and creating a college scholarship database. I like being able to save good freelancers and the ease of finding a freelancer anytime of day. I found it easier to use than Fiverr. The initial setup of Upwork was very straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I wish Upwork would separate the freelancers by language.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Upwork to help with professional tasks like resume writing and creating a college scholarship database. It solved the problem of not updating my resume in 15 years and not knowing how to create a database, making those big projects more manageable.

  ### 14. Affordable Outsourcing Made Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lily N.

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like that Upwork offers a great deal and is fast. It's easy to choose from a variety of professionals who have great skills and are affordable. I can see their reviews and samples of their work, and they communicate well in English. The initial setup of Upwork was very easy, self-explanatory, and I didn't have any trouble.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I really can't come up with something I don't like

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can outsource tasks cheaper and faster with Upwork. It's easy to choose from a variety of affordable professionals with great skills, reviews, and samples, who communicate well in English.

  ### 15. "Creative Graphic Designer with 3+ years of experience crafting impactful brand identities.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julpna B. | Social Media Marketing Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

“What I like best about Upwork is the freedom it gives to connect with clients from all over the world, build long-term relationships, and grow professionally on my own terms. It’s not just a platform — it’s a space where skills, trust, and consistency are rewarded.”

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

“What I dislike about Upwork is how competitive it can be, especially when starting out — it often takes a lot of effort to get noticed, even if you have strong skills. Sometimes great proposals go unanswered. But I’ve learned that persistence, quality work, and client satisfaction eventually open the right doors.”

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

“Upwork is solving the problem of accessibility — making it easier for freelancers like me to find real, global opportunities without needing a physical office or network. It removes traditional barriers to work by letting talent speak louder than location. For me, it’s been a platform to build a career, earn independently, and grow on my own terms.”

  ### 16. Great option for both freelancing and connecting with freelancers

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aleeya C. | Associate Director of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I have used Upwork for both freelancing on projects and for posting projects to find freelancers. Both have been very positive experiences and, over the years, Upwork has remained my go-to platform for both. As a freelancer, I love the different options for connecting with projects and for relaying my experience in my profile. It's incredibly easy to showcase my background and highlight areas of expertise/projects that I would be a great fit for.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Sometimes the hunt for projects can become quite pricey, especially when applying to multiple that require high "bids." I understand the model, but it can feel exclusionary at times.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest one would be connection. Sometimes it's hard to cold outreach to freelancers or the opposite, Upwork gives you a secure platform/one-stop-shop.

  ### 17. Upwork is Great for Free Lancers & Contractors

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** GINA B. | Healthcare Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

The ease of contracts and communication on the platform with Clients.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

-There are too many on here now from other countries bidding for less than $5 USD hourly --this severly undercuts the EXPERTISE and EXPERIENCE that US BASED Freelancers -I would also love the ability to connect with the POSSIBLE CLIENT once a proposal has been viewed-this allows for contract negotiation -Vetting of Clients that post jobs-many do not post $$$ per hour or FIXED price, others overpromise in their job posting and then SERIOUSLY UNDER deliver once we are contracted.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have idea what they are working on internally-this is what this survery is for so they can use our feedback and do Quality Assurance and then CIP's (Continous Improvement Processes)

  ### 18. Streamlined Hiring with Insightful Profiles

**Reviewed by:** Nicole L. | Small Business Systems Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like using Upwork for hiring help for my online services business. It helps me take some admin things off my plate and find qualified people to help build a SaaS tool. What I like most about Upwork is that I can see the past work history of people I'm looking to hire. This feature helps me figure out how much experience they have related to the position I'm looking to fill.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I wish I didn't have to leave a review on an individual before closing out the contract.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

n/a

  ### 20. Great way to have multiple jobs!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nour Elden A. | Backend Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

upwork is really great product that connects freelancers from all levels to clients that needs small gigs or even big full time projects/work,
one of the best thing is the making proposal is with money that way not everybody applies randomly to every job posted,
upwork customer support is really the best they helped me a lot with some payments issues , and they get my back if the client tried to scam me,
I received a gift card in exchange for writing this review.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

that some clients post jobs but don't interview anyone so that way everybody loses there connections

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

by regulating the process of work it benifits me and the client when they keep the client money before the work so it's good for me and the client we are both sure that our stuff gets handled right

  ### 21. Great platform to start freelancing and grow skills

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Garrett M. | Freelancer/self employed, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Overall Experience:
Upwork has been a solid platform for me to get started as a freelancer. I’ve been able to find real paying clients, build my portfolio, and grow confidence in freelancing. It’s user-friendly, and I like that projects are clearly posted with budgets, timelines, and client information. The payment protection system also gives me peace of mind that I’ll get paid for my work.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

The cost of “connects” can add up quickly, especially for new freelancers who are just starting out and applying to many jobs. Competition can also be tough at the beginning, since there are a lot of freelancers bidding for the same roles.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork helps me solve the challenge of finding consistent freelance work without needing to rely on traditional jobs.

  ### 22. Effortless Collaboration and Top-Quality Talent

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amy S. | Special Projects & Events Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Very organized and easy to navigate. Wonderful talent on the site and quick responses for projects. Always have been pleased with the interaction with the designers I've worked with and their quality of work. The platform is very easy to handle billing and communications, as needed.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Nothing I can think of. I have been pleased with my interactions on it.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They help connect me with quality talent and help me to accomplish my projects in a timely and affordable manner.

  ### 23. A reliable platform for connecting with skilled professionals

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taiwo A. | Website Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like how easy it is to connect with a wide range of talented freelancers from around the world. The platform’s tools for communication, time tracking, and milestone payments make collaboration seamless. Having a secure payment system also gives peace of mind that projects will be completed professionally and both sides are protected.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

The biggest downside is the service fees, which can feel quite high for freelancers. Additionally, because of the large number of users, it can sometimes be overwhelming to sort through proposals or find the right fit for a project. Still, once you navigate those challenges, the experience is generally very positive.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Yes. The platform keeps improving its features, and I feel more supported and protected as a freelancer compared to other sites.

  ### 24. Great Platform for Working with International Clients and SMEs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rodrigo M. | Customer Service , Automotive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

The possibility to work with international clients and SMEs. The customer support is great and fast. I use it every month to find new clients.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

There are many new clients in the platform that don´t have enough experience and want to pay low fees to the freelancers.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They help me to find new clients, this benefits me with profitable working opportunities.

  ### 25. A very decent platform for freelancers to earn money .

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Saurabh B. | Quality Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Upwork is easy to use and helps me find clients from all over the world. I like the project catalog, where I can offer my services. The tools for time tracking and client communication make working easier and more organized. It’s a great place to find different types of jobs, especially if you have special skills.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Upwork is a very decent platform, but the competition is too high, and the fee structure is too high. Even one bad review can really hurt your score and make it harder to get new jobs. Also, even though Upwork tries to keep things safe, there are still some fake or untrustworthy clients. So, freelancers need to be very careful before accepting any job.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork helps me find work easily, so I don’t have to spend hours searching or sending emails to different people. It brings clients and freelancers together in one place. I also feel safe because I know I’ll get paid on time. The tools for tracking time and chatting with clients make my work easier to manage. Overall, it saves me time and helps me grow in my freelancing journey. It helped me to earn money from this platform and get projects.

  ### 26. Diverse Talent Pool and Effortless Scalability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ekesh B. | Module Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Upwork is my go-to platform for hiring experts who can help me complete my project smoothly and professionally. I really value the diversity of talent available on Upwork. Each project I have posted has attracted freelancers with unique skills and perspectives, making collaborating with remote talent easy and hassle-free. I also like the flexibility of scaling the projects, setting clear expectations, and managing all workflows in one place. Additionally, I found the initial setup to be straightforward and intuitive, with easy onboarding.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I think Upwork could offer more flexible payment structures for long-term projects.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork is my go-to for hiring experts, bridging the gap between projects and talent, making remote collaboration easy with a diversity of skills, and offering project scaling flexibility.

  ### 27. Vast Talent Pool and Cost Savings, Minor Language Barriers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Upwork provides an almost unlimited worldwide selection of qualified E-commerce professionals, allowing our company to easily find the best person to fit our needs. But what I like best is the cost of hiring someone outside the U.S. is much lower.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

The downside of working with Upwork (and this is the ONLY thing), is it is sometimes difficult to understand someone who doesn't speak English as their first language.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork provides an ad hoc Amazon systems professional at a price that is affordable for our small business. And because the cost is low, we are able to use Upwork each and every time we have a problem with our Amazon account. Suffice it to say, none of the people at our small business understands Amazon the way our Upwork consultant does and we derive great comfort at having him available at a moments notice.

  ### 28. Upwork - The best freelance website

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhamamd U. | Individual, Retail, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

The first and foremost thing I like about upwork is their work flow design like it becomes very easy for new freelancers to get attached to this website. Secondly, the features it offers are better than the other freelance software. You have to find clients, clients don't have to find you. That's the best thing I saw of this software. Once I had got a problem with something regarding bidding and their customer support team really helped me solve that problem. Another one I felt as a golden opportunity for freelancers as it haf an option for hourly payments, this is usually done when a client wants you for long term and this is where a real freelancer journey starts.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Theirs only 1 thing that I dislike about upwork is their high fee structured. Although the software provides immerse opportunities to freelancers but the fee charged on each project may feel overwhelming.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I once did a certified course for Seo optimization and after completing it I felt I am capable of doing thai work for others. I creates two demo sites and did SEO for it and it did ranked well. Now that was part of my portfolio, then I became familiar to Upwork and created my account on it. In the start it felt a bit more challenging as their were other competitors bidding with a strong portfolio but I was disciplined and didn't lose hope. I worked hard until finally I got my first project work from a client regarding SEO for his blogging site. After having first customer and positive reveiw from him, I started getting more and more projects and earned alot of money. The only drawback as I said was high fee structure nothing else.

  ### 29. Gamechanger for my small biz

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelsee B. H. | Arts Program Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like how easy it is to post a need and get bids to choose from within just a few minutes. Billing/payment is always super easy to handle - just put a card on file and you're good to go. I like that I can have longer, ongoing contracts as well as shorter, quick needs fulfilled.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

The contract initiation fee for every single gig that you start - regardless of whether or not it's a freelancer you've worked with before.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

On Upwork, I've been able to retain a bookkeeper for my business for almost a year now. That's been a gamechanger for me as I'm not a numbers person, but I can quickly hire someone who is. I also use the platform for help with quick editing needs when I'm overwhelmed and need assistance.

  ### 30. Great for finding freelance work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** mari . | Snior Graphic Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Access to a global client base.

Security of payment through escrow.

Ability to build long-term client relationships.

Flexibility to choose projects aligned with your skills.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

High competition (lots of freelancers applying for the same jobs).

Sometimes clients post vague or under-budgeted projects.

The service fees can feel steep, especially on smaller projects.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Finding reliable clients → It eliminates the need to constantly cold pitch or chase leads.

Payment security → Escrow ensures you get paid for the work you do.

Global access → You’re not limited to your local market, you can connect with clients worldwide.

Project variety → Lets you pick projects that match your skills and help you grow.

Reputation building → Reviews and ratings help showcase your credibility to new clients.

  ### 31. Mixed Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Morgan L. | Company & House Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

The thing I like best about Upwork is the security of using their messenger and payment system. As long as the client is verified, I know that I'm not going to get cheated out of what I'm owed for work already completed.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Two things. First, it's become incredibly oversaturated. Second, Upwork really tries to finagle me, the freelancer, out of money just to get noticed by the client or hiring party. Freelancers only get a few free "credits" per month, but the # of credits required to apply for a gig has continued to increase. How do you get more credits, or get your application bumped to the top? Pay.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm not sure Upwork is exactly ~solving any problems. It's a marketplace, in theory.

  ### 32. Most Useful Freelance Site

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron B. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Upwork is the only real freelance site the has enough freelancers and employers to be usable in my experience. There are enough quantity and quality of job postings to make it worth checking every week, and when I've needed freelancers myself, I've been able to find good candidates.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Not a big fan of having to pay to get your proposal bumped up to the top of the list. A certain percentage of job postings are a ridiculous waste of time (e.g. I need 100 videos for $100).

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It connects employers who need help for which they don't have existing resources with freelancers looking for new clients. I have gotten connected with several clients through Upwork over the years that I still work with today.

  ### 33. Great Platform To Find A Quick Turnaround

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Declan G. | Technology Aquisition and Deployment Coordinator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like that Upwork lets a small business access freelancers across the world. This works great for small businesses to find a freelancer to turn a small project around quickly. I was able to have a freelancer work start work on a project near the end of the workday in my timezone by having them be in a different timezone.

The platform really helps connect people, and provides a level of screening I could not do as a small business.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

There is quite a bit of spam on the platform, but if you just use good judgement you should be good. Don’t communicate off platform, don’t pay off platform, and don’t pay for incomplete work.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need freelancers to complete short graphic design projects.

  ### 34. Freelance Dream

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Skyler R. | Social Media Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I absolutely love Upwork because there are new jobs posted in my field all day every day there. It makes it super simple to not only find work but also broker contracts. I have used Upwork as both a freelancer and a hirer and I absolutely love it! Best decision I ever made and really helped me get my marketing business of the ground!!

Disclaimer: I received a gift card for sharing my honest review.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I wish there was live support on Upwork for when I did have a few questions but their user database of answers was helpful too so I really have no complaints!

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Upwork to help me find social media marketing, graphic design or copywriting clients.

  ### 35. Great platform for independent professionals

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelly . | Freelancer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Upwork has given me the opportunity to connect with clients from all over on a wide variety of projects that align with my skills and interests. The platform is easy to navigate, with tools that make communication, time tracking, and payments reliable and easy. I've been on the platform for a few years and it's been a really good experience.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Having to buy connects to apply for work when I run out. However, I can't really complain because they give us free connects every month.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork helps solve the biggest challenge for freelancers which is finding consistent, legitimate work opportunities. It eliminates the guesswork of chasing clients, worrying about contracts, or payment security. I've landed a lot of great work off the platform.

  ### 36. Efficient Freelance Hiring, But Needs Communication Improvements

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** shaun A. | Business Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like the fact that I can create a very clear proposal, and then within a couple of hours, I have people contacting me to offer their services. The setup of Upwork was very easy and intuitive. The user interface is pretty normal and clear, which is helpful.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Sometimes clarity is an issue with freelancers from different regions. We often have to go back and forth to ensure they understand our standards, which can be higher compared to standards in their countries.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork helps me find cheaper labor with good quality and offers availability of freelancers when needed.

  ### 37. Great way to pick up some freelance work

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ali S. | Graphic Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like how easy and streamlined Upwork is. It's simple to find jobs that align with your skills and it's easy to apply for those jobs. It also makes payments really straightforward and easy and I've never had an issue with being paid.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

The only limitation to Upwork is the number of connects you get for free. When I need work and use all my connects on clients who never even message me back, it's hard to find real, paid work with limited credits.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork solves the issue of finding clients for my freelance business. I don't want to run an entire freelance side business, but it's nice to be able to pick some up here and there when I have the time.

  ### 38. Exceptional Talent Pool That Drives Business Growth

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michele E. | Business Advisor - Marketing & Start-ups, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

When I finally realized that I needed to start hiring freelancers in order to grow my consulting business, I was able to find qualified talent on Upwork. Several freelancers I've worked with have provided superior skill and talent, thereby reducing my workload and allowing me to focus on getting the things done that are the best use of my time.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

A few years ago I experienced minor problems with their billing function, but since then everything has worked great.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've found talent that specializes in getting into the weeds of my projects, saving me time and delivering better results than I probably would have myself. It allows me to do what I do best and leave some of the detailed expert tasks to other competent freelancers.

  ### 39. Quick Access, Flexible Budgeting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shajuana A.

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I find Upwork very helpful for finding virtual assistants when I need extra support. It's easy to use and offers several options that vary depending on my needs. I appreciate the quick access it provides without the long hiring process. The flexibility with budget and skills needed is great, and I value the job postings for their ease of use. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Fees

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork helps me find virtual assistants quickly without a long hiring process. I like the flexibility with budget and skills needed, and the ease of use, especially for job postings.

  ### 40. Easy Hiring of Talented Freelancers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like how easy it was to find people on Upwork. It really made it easy by showing their ratings and their rates. This saved me time. Additionally, the initial setup was pretty easy and efficient.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I can't think of anything.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork allowed me to hire a professional and experienced graphic designer at a reasonable cost, made it easy to find people by showing their ratings and rates, and saved me time.

  ### 41. Great Job Matching, But Connects System Can Be Frustrating

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liza Marie A. | Customer Service Representative, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I like that Upwork helps you find jobs that really match your skills and interests. It’s easy to connect with clients who are looking for exactly what you offer.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I don’t like that when your Connects run out, you have to buy more just to apply for jobs. It can be a bit frustrating, especially if you're just starting out or trying to save.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork connects you with the right jobs for your skills—fast, flexible, and remote-friendly. Whether you're just starting out or building a freelance career, it's your go-to platform for finding real opportunities and growing on your own terms.

  ### 42. My memorable experience on Upwork

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adaeze U. | Executive Assistance, Executive Office, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

What I like best about Upwork is the variety of opportunities available. The secured payment security that motivates me to work more because I know I will get paid. I connect with different clients from different industries and countries, which is a flex for me. 😊

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Upwork has changed my life from a sit at home mum to a millionaire. I don’t dislike anything about Upwork, rather I love it more.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork is solving the challenge of consistently finding trustworthy clients and projects. Instead of spending hours searching for leads, I can access a wide range of opportunities in one place.

Like I said earlier, the secure payment system also removes the stress of chasing invoices, allowing me to focus more on delivering quality work and growing my freelancing business.

  ### 43. Easy way to earn part time cash

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I enjoy using Upwork because it offers me the opportunity to find work in basically any avenue of work. They have jobs posting for beginner all the way up to expert level. You also get to set your rate when you submit your proposal so you know exactly what you will get paid if accepted.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I dislike the the higher fees associated with using the platform. But with using their platform you also get their added support if a client does not want to pay up. When this has happened to me the Upwork support team was able to settle the dispute.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork helps to get together a large pool of clients so that freelancers and pick and choose which projects fit their particular skill set. This means that I, as a freelancer do not have to search on multiple platforms for jobs that fit my parameters.

  ### 44. Great Work Platform, Limited Growth

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Janeil H. | Content Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

It gives you a platform and space to reach out to others with your skillset. You can negotiate with your own terms, and have buyer protection based on the systems ni place.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

It's a necessity to buy credits to use the platform, to apply to jobs. This rate has gone up over the years in how much credits it costs to apply to jobs. Often there is little to no return when applying, so you are essentially paying to apply to jobs at a losing rate. A lot of the users tend to lowball or be inconsiderate with their job listings, or are trying to approach US workers with third world budgets and rates.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping me find clients and get jobs for income, and build long-term relationships with repeat customers.

  ### 45. Indispensable Platform for Hiring Freelancers!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike P. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

Using Upwork as opened a whole new world of possibilities for me and my business. Both when hiring freelancers, and hunting for work, Upworks platform is easy to use and has a vast network of high quality users. I use it everyday!

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

There isn’t much that I dislike about Upwork! Occasionally there are issues between parties that are hired through Upwork, but Upwork is always there to smooth things out.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a small business, we don’t always have a big budget to hire talent. Upwork allows for us to find high quality freelancers without the big price tag. You can find specialists of all kinds and from all countries, making it easy to grow your team while not breaking the bank!

  ### 46. Great Project Filters, But Limited Developer Resources at Times

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander C. | Director of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing my team and giving me more hours in my day.

  ### 47. Wide Selection of Skilled, Affordable Freelancers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert F. | Founding Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Lots of freelancers to choose from. Almost all are reasonably priced and very skilled. Very easy to use. I've come back several times.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I truly have no complaints. There are plenty of options to choose from, and my experiences have all been straightforward. The person I hired has done an excellent job for me several times now.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used them several times to update my website, which is hosted on Squarespace. I have now come back to the same person several times. She is highly skilled and creative.

  ### 48. Great for Finding Freelance Work

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dylan B. | Freelance Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I've been using Upwork for several years now, and I like how easy it is to find clients through their platform. I've been able to build a portfolio and cultivate social proof, making it easy to secure new clients without having to worry about doing any extra work on my end. They also make it easy to filter jobs and clients, seek out platform users who meet my criteria, and spend less time tracking down projects to apply for.

I received a gift card in exchange for submitting this honest review.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I do wish that the number of connects needed to secure a job were lower and that the "boost proposal" feature were put out of commission.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's making it easier to connect with clients, which can be difficult to do outside of cold emailing.

  ### 49. Glad I decided to give it a try

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard B. | Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

I have slowly started to build my profile as a freelancer after using Upwork to hire folks to help me with various tasks. I am very happy with my experience and continue to complete small tasks that are of interest to me. Customer service is very responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

Some proposals are not accepted and it can get frustrating. I also note that some of the jobs ask for more information than they are supposed to and I've learned it is up to me to identify and not give more information - would be nice if Upwork did more screening (I'll admit I don't know what type of screening they do).

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am retired but like to stay active. Upwork gives me an opportunity to work on interesting projects and make a little bit of money.

  ### 50. Upwork is a safe and reliable way to freelance

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lauren A. | Graphic Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Upwork?**

Upwork takes care of all the contracts involved with freelance, meaning I don't have to worry about a client not paying for work. They make it easy to communicate and adjust terms for freelancers. It feels safe to submit work knowing I will get paid for both small and long-term projects.

I received a gift card for sharing my honest review.

**What do you dislike about Upwork?**

I don't appreciate the percentage of fee that Upwork takes, it feels a bit steep to me. Furthermore, sometimes it can be very hard to win work because freelancers who ask for far below minimum wage are winning the jobs.

**What problems is Upwork solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Upwork connects me to clients I wouldn't otherwise find and makes it easy to win small projects. I have done freelance outside of Upwork that I was never paid for, despite setting up a contract.
