## Upsun Reviews
  ### 1. A very flexible platform for the complexities of enterprise web development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alberto R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

We were looking for a platform that gave us the flexibility to mix different technologies to create modern decoupled websites, using React and Drupal 8. We have a refined CI practice in our company and the services we use need to comply with our standards in such practice.

Platform.sh provides that with an added bonus of being more affordable than the competition and more flexible in building plans. It has a lot of documentation and it speaks the language of developers and administrators.

For agencies, it has a lot of documentation you can use in pitches to answer to commonly asked questions from clients.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Admin interface can be somewhat confusing for partners (one account for partner administration and one for site administration). Other than that, nothing so far!
Administration of sites is mostly done via terminal, which can drive some clients off.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single platform for different technologies (JS, Drupal, Symfony) and its extensions (Apache Solr for example).
Flexible economic plans for both small and large complex sites.
A modern enterprise software development support.

  ### 2. CI Tooling + Containerized Hosting = Win

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alec R. | Co-founder, CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh focuses on professional developers by offering CI tooling. For most of our projects, we don't need to run an additional CI server; all our tests and linting can run during the Platform.sh build process.

Platform.sh offers flexibility similar to Heroku, being able to specify a wide range of environment configuration in a YAML file.

They worked extremely hands-on with my Enterprise clients and were able to satisfy compliance issues with them that other companies could not.

Overall, we've been really happy working the Platform.sh, both as users who purchase their services for our own sites and as vendors who help clients onboard into P.sh.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Because Platform.sh serves a wide number of platforms, sometimes it can feel like a "jack of all trades, master of none". Their support is very responsive (Slack + ticketed), but it's impossible to hire support staff who know ALL platforms best.

Their Enterprise product behaves slightly differently than their self-service infrastructure; I believe these differences have been mostly (perhaps entirely) eliminated, but be sure to discuss them with Platform.sh sales and your onboarding team.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting/CI server for our clients. Creating QA environments.

Overall, biggest benefit has been combining the services we used to run on a dedicated CI server (Travis/Jenkins/CircleCI) and a managed hosting platform in one package. This has been more affordable for smaller clients, where having CI is a "nice to have" that would normally get tossed out due to price. Platform.sh gives developers the tools they need without breaking the bank for the clients.

  ### 3. The hosting solution Product Managers needed

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christophe D. | Chief Product Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh, since years already, offer the key ability to deliver and seamlessly test new features just as if they were on a live site.

No matter what kind of agile workflow you work with (or non-agile, for that matter), new features can be deployed in test environments from a "copy" of the production version. May you need to run automated tests (unit tests, integration tests, performance tests), or just "clic-clic-clic-it-works" tests, this just removes the "it works on my machine" risk.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Platform.sh is a change of paradigm. From a DevOps world where developers and "Ops" have fine grained control over every service that get your app running, they give away *some* control, as Platform.sh is a "fully managed hosting". To some extent, of course. Developers request and configure services as they code, depending on the support provided by Platform.sh.

Can they do everything as before? No. Is it less time-consuming now? Most Likely. Now such a huge change of workflow needs some change management in the mindsets. That also has a cost in time, money, and in some organizations it has a "human cost".

It's all a matter of choice.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a non-developer, I'm given enough tools to manage some simple sites myself.
As a product manager, I'm given the tools to review more reliably new features developments.
In all perspectives, I'm gaining consequents amounts of time, and confidence on new deploys.

  ### 4. We don't think or talk about deployments anymore

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sébastien M. | CTO / Head of U.S. Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

They take care of running the application so we can focus to build it.

The usage simplicity is THE best. That's so clear and super flexible, in 2 simple files you can get your complex architecture as well as many environments as you need for feature management.
Developers love it and clients too.

We don't even think about deployment, we just merge. There is a fluid simple git-based workflow, you can synchronize with your favorite git repository or use their repo and that's it.

Obviously, on top of this, the production environments are stable, robust, secure, and scalable. Their support team is awesome and really reactive and almost always available for you.

Technically, you still have SSH access, you get to use a CLI command that helps all your developers on day-to-day actions on your app, that's also very convenient.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The difference between the Enterprise version and the Standard version was a bit confusing at first. And, yes sometimes builds are blocked but that does not affect production.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

It's flexible, it's fast, it's secure, they have great support. If they propose all the software you need don't hesitate to try it. Once you'll have tried it, you'll be convinced.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have more than 30 projects on Platform.sh spread on many clients. We recommend Platform.sh to all of them and we also use it for all our projects internally. Why? because it just works and provides this peace of mind for agencies like us: no deploy and at the same time an environment per branch on production-like clones!

That simplifies everything for us and for our clients. It reduces the feedback loop on new features and therefore improves decision making.

We even have clients working with us on the same code base, that was not possible before because of the complexity of managing QA, Tests, and those many environments. Now that's over.

  ### 5. The Swiss-Army Knife of PaaS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh gives you as much flexibility as your project requires to blend various technologies but do so in a way that is simple to use and manage. Sites that require multiple servers (decoupled web apps) normally require complex or costly hosting services, or worse cause you to try and manage your own DevOps. Platform.sh allows you to build out the platform that fits the project, not the other way around. Additionally, their focus on CI/CD means teams can build on best practices from the start without trying to tie a number of disjointed services together.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

For some, the level of customization can be overwhelming but once you have the workflow created deploying new releases and iterations is a breeze.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Platform allows our clients to have a repeatable deployment process without the complexities of tying multiple services together. Decoupled web applications can be managed together, rather than independently.

  ### 6. Great product to et into CI/CD

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benoit D. | Directeur du bureau de Montréal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Great product for those who want to get into CI/CD smoothly. It was my first steps with a PaaS. Used it with eZ Platform with the help of eZ Launchpad. Customer service was really helpful to help me out at the few places I was stucked. Went to a session tutorial they organized at a dev conference and was really satisfied by what I learned.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

If I didn't have the help of an onboarding tool (eZ Launchpad, in my case), it would have been really hard for me as I have very little devops knowledge. I have heard that they will have such tools in the near future that will cover a range of applications.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting a website built with eZ Platform 2.5. Allowing it to make branches for new features and bug resolution in a breeze.

  ### 7. A great PaaS for deploy easily your project

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** André L. | Engenheiro DevOps, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh permits you deploy your project easily! It's just some clicks and containers are up and running. Very useful for who need start a small project very fastly. Git integrates is fantastic too! You can branch, merge and/or sync directly on platform.sh console or terminal. Very useful for update your project without need to copy files, deploy manually on application or opening a ticket to support/infrastructure team.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Platform.sh maybe need you change your mindset. As a PaaS provider, you won't have root acess to container. You need to worry just to mount your infrastructure correctly using Infrastructure-as-a-Code files and tools. In my case, I was frustated for some weeks because I did want implement some softwares that are not natively integrated with platform.sh.

Another problem using platform.sh is when your deploy freeze and you simply can't reset your environment to restore infrastructure. For this problem you need open a ticket for support team, wait for platform.sh SLA for have your envinronment restored and operational for you. In some cases supports can delay like 10h-12h. In my company, I delayed one sprint's delivery because the environment stucked and supports delayed like 10h.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

If you are looking for a easy and fast to use PaaS at web, use Platform.sh surely. If you are a DevOps Engineer, maybe you can try a IaaS Provider to deploy your envinroment in your way.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's awesome to have a development environment without a DevOps Engineer or a Infrastructure Analyst. The Developers can easily construct your containers without too much knowledge in infrastructure. Just need create a code to create containers of applications and services and branch your master to others to start develop features of your app.

  ### 8. Incredible development and deployment workflow for a Drupal agency

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Winn . | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Their command line tools are by far the best in the industry. Since their hosting platform is built API-first, every action can be performed from the command line, and scripted, if needed. It's great to be able to add in additional services, such as Python or Node.js, when needed. When we're building out a new large site, we use up to 12 environments that are clones of the live site to build and test each feature independently.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

New environments need to be purchased in blocks of 3, which makes that first new environment quite expensive (hosting plans come with 4 environments, so additional environments aren't needed often)

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting each of our clients' websites in their own plan. Streamlining and consolidating our development workflow.

  ### 9. A Infra team that work with you

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Martin P. | Président fondateur, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The platform is optimise for Symfony and the team is there to help me via different channel when I need to. I don't have any IT developer on my side so it's a relief to use there service.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Optimisation come to a price, so when you have really specific needs/customisation they might not be the place for you but 95% of the time they are.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I am working a really big project ( >100k users active per month) I need a dedicated team and infrastructure.
But for any other project where have a internal team is too expensive or not needed, they solve my problem.
I am a good developer but really bad at infra stuff. Their solution is perfect for me.

  ### 10. Excellent. It's my go to hosting platform.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marcelo S. | Lead Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The way it's easy to set up new environments. The way we can make backups and sync code/databases. The client is well done as well and helps speed up new developers.
The way we get the deploy as a direct answer to the git push commands allows me to have one easy and predictable way to check it the deploy went well or had some issue. Doing it this way I do not need to check anther services to see if it was done or not, my own terminal can answer this.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

That there is not an easy way to set automatic backups (at least, for basic plans).
The way we renew SSL certificates could be simpler. At least for the "Lets Encrypt" environments. We need to deploy again and some projects that aren't in a high developing phase can become offline just because we didn't push code recently. This has forced us to create extra steps on our side to be sure that we keep checking when each website's cert will expire. I know there is a way to configure it to do it automatically but it isn't easy neither easy to check if it's working.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The workflow is simple. We do not need our own server neither some server specialist. Because of that we can focus on developing instead of checking if the CI build and deployed everything as needed.

  ### 11. A PaaS focused on environments and simple developer setups

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stefan A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Whether you're building a small commerce application with a relational database or you're setting up a microservice based architecture, platform.sh is here to deploy that. And the best thing is: the developer experience is quite amazing in that you can create a full "copy" of the production environment for your branch within minutes and start hacking on it - no need to setup a "cluster" or deal with complex container building pipelines. Just clone, branch, push and your development environment is up and running for QA to look at.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Platform.sh comes with the cost of a slight "vendor lock in" since if you want to make most out of it, you should rely on their client libraries to connect to your environment's services. Think, they're on it (and they also expose environment variables for your 12-factor apps) but when I remember right, it wasn't too simple to get this right (state of late 2019)

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Platform.sh definitely shines when you need your app up and running and don't want to wrap your head around K8S, Terraform, Gitlab CI and other cluster things. So if you're already on the path of going fullstack DevOps it won't solve issues for you. Instead it will get you started *really* quickly, maybe even faster than when relying on more componentized PaaS' like Heroku or Beanstalk...

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spinning up & creating developer branch environments is usually hard; with platform.sh the onboarding of new coders and making them "productive" usually is a matter of minutes instead of days.

  ### 12. Up and running with a few choices and minimal configuration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lukas S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

As a web agency most of our hosting needs are actually not super complex. However we need access to various different services. With platform.sh essentially all that needs to be decided is the size (which can be scaled up and down later too) and then with minimal configuration you are up and running. No extensive wizards to configure different services and containers.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Central management of all of our services is currently not possible but should become available some time this year. For more complex needs (like dynamic scaling or managing a cluster), platform.sh doesn't provide much out of the box. Then again at that point it might make sense to explore other options.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Shorter setup times and faster onboarding.

  ### 13. Easy hosting for web project

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pierrick C. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The product documentation is full of exemples and make it easy for any developers to deploy their project. You can find templates for the most used php technologies like drupal , wordpress, symfony ...
Cuztomization is done really fast with the yaml configuration files and really close to docker definition. Once it is donen you push it on the git repository and the project is deployed really fast (within 10 minutes).
When the website is live you can easily upgrade your resource plan, if you are making a major commercial communication (exemple : spot on tv) , you can anticipate you need in resource and increase you processor et memory resources by chosing another plan.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

It is possible to build only one banch at the same time, so if your teams has many developers and each of them wants to deploy, you will have to wait for the process before yours in the queue to finish.

If you want to monitor your plan in real time you need an external tool (like new relic). If not you will be able to ask for the datas and they will make you an extract.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The first major problem solved is the performance, changing a plan when you need is really fast and you don't need to change your project code.

The second problem is the deployment automation, it is done by platform instead of the technical / devop expert. Your team is only responsible of the project source code and platform.sh in responsible of deploying it and hosting it.

  ### 14. AWS migration over to Platform.sh and Sales/Technical department support.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh Sales/Technical department is simply remarkable, special mention for Felipe.
He was key on our company decided for migrating the whole of our portfolio by the time stored in AWS over to Platform.sh
Because of his skills as a former Software architecture he was remarkably helpful when dealing with migrating an specific multisite since the stakeholders wanted to confirm this architecture would continue to work in the same way after migrating to Platform.sh so on top of the Technical department and its support via Slack, Felipe worked even at late shifts to ensure our project was successfully migrated, up and running on Platform.sh
Because of this, we've now migrated another 3 projects (4 in total) and we're expecting to migrate another 4 by the end of 2020.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Nothing to add here. So far I can only tell good things about Platform.sh as a platform itself and over all about its support and sales team.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can now spin up new projects in a matter of minutes, whereas it used to take us days when we stored our projects on AWS in addition to hire a DevOp to set up every different new project.
This is not required anymore, any dev in the team can now create/clone a new project and create up to 3 different environments just by creating a new branch.

  ### 15. Really helped us streamline our deployment workflow, gain speed and quality

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roland B. | Chief Product & Marketing Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh has many benefits, but to me, the one the most apparent and satisfying in my position as a product and then marketing lead, was the ability to accelerate deployment and especially testing. Adopting platform.sh allowed us to spin-up test evironments and test new functionalities being developed way early in the development process, and without asking much to our IT and Engineering teams.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Not much... we'd love the ability to run on multiple cloud providers at the same time. This is not yet possible, but not a blocker at all.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For our own use, accelerating development, testing and deployment, improving our quality, focusing our resources.

  ### 16. Simple & performant hosting solution

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bram D. | Senior Consultant - Technical Lead Drupal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Very easy to set-up and easy to manage. I also like the free tier that allows developers to have a play with Platform.sh before making a purchase, and if needed, it's possible to turn a sandbox environment into a production site! Everything is easy to manage & configure. The user interface is very modern and easy to use, even for new people that are added to teams. There is also a lot of support documentation available which really helps if you're trying to configure something specific.

The architecture is really nice and very flexible, it's just not your average FTP hosting but you really get something with Platform. It's possible to also very easy to manage external dependencies with the use of Composer. I think it's difficult to list things that can't be done with Platform.sh making this an ideal platform for a lot of you websites. The CI tools and possibilities you get are really amazing!

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

For smaller projects/personal project I think the pricing is a bit too high. Although it's really feature riche, I can't justify spending 50€ a month for a personal website or for a smaller client for example. Maybe it would be a good idea to also offer an XS or XXS package with 2 environments instead of 4 to reduce cost.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

If you want a lot of flexibility, but don't want to do everything yourself like AWS/Google cloud, Platform.sh is perfect for you because you still have a lot of flexibility, but the hard work is done by the team.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy management of environments, simple deployments and stable environments. I really loved the speed I was able to create & configure a brand new website. Performance has been great and I haven't had any downtime, ever.

  ### 17. Reliable and responsive hosting experts, a pleasure to work with

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jaron G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The deployment systems and tooling they use is the best we've seen, and makes our deployment/release processes largely worry-free. Their support teams and experts are responsive and thoughtful and are able to help easily.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Occasionally there are stuck deploys where we need to escalate to support rather than be able to diagnose and fix ourselves. But these are relatively few and far between.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're hosting ~4 enterprise and ~10 professional tier sites of all scales, including high-profile and high-traffic cultural destination sites like http://britishmuseum.org/. In the covid-19 crisis, in-person audiences are flocking online, and Platform.sh has allowed us to architect and deliver a fantastic experience while physical locations are closed.

  ### 18. Highly knowledgeable team, no unnecessary complexity, hosting without the anguish

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

* Platform.sh bakes in a "dev/staging/production" model to help you deliver well-tested code and content.
* Professional plans offer cloud reliability married to a simple persistent filesystem. Unlike Heroku, you're not forced into S3 or similar if it's overkill for your needs.
* If you know how to code it you know how to host it — you're not responsible for the care and feeding of operating systems and servers.
* MongoDB available as a standard option, as well as relational databases.
* Enterprise plans also available, which is good insurance if you find yourself going in a more "webscale" direction.
* Good developers rely on git; Platform's deployment via git is a natural fit.
* Smart team that responds quickly to questions.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Platform's pricing is very reasonable for what they provide, but on the very low end you might have a budget more in line with running a single instance, with no separate dev/staging/prod environments. Just remember that you get the reliability you pay for.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm exploring Platform.sh for web application hosting. Although I have expertise with web server administration, it's a great load off my shoulders to be able to focus on the code.

  ### 19. Platform.sh is one of the most adaptable hosting providers in the industry

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Will J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

We really like the ability to rapidly build custom applications and deploy to hosting centers around the world.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The library of templates is fantastic, but having the ability to create a manage custom templates would be really cool.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Platform.sh is a great choice for building a custom application with best-in-industry managed support. The CI/CD tools are fantastic and can be built to accommodate nearly any workflow.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Platform.sh is great for building bespoke applications for clients with specific needs. Additionally though the CLI tools, we are able to automate much of the developer onboarding for projects. It really expedites the whole process.

  ### 20. Solid service, been using them for over 4 years now

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John O. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

This is a great platform for developers to setup complicated builds. Unlike any of their competitors I have used, their build processes are part of the system itself. The allow complex multi-app setups that use a variety of different base languages as well. This is crucial in today's sophisticated website /app architectural universe.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

None anymore, their support used to be kind of meh. It has come a long way and I have no complaints currently.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

If you need a composer/node/complex build setup that is easy and quick to use, then go with platform.sh

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Complex website architectures, multi app decoupled setups, enterprise level client setups.

  ### 21. We recommend Platform.sh for many of our key clients

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

In general, we believe in cloud and PaaS technologies for building flexible and sustainable web solutions, quickly. Platform.sh fits this profile and is amongst the most flexible of the offerings out there. The interface over the years has improved substantially. The dev tools have always been strong, and this has remained. The partner portal and support materials are completely and cover a wide array of materials. They are well written and all brand compliant which makes it easy to find and diggest the information.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Support and guaranteed SLA's are offered only on the highest subscription tiers.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

WebOps is not a problem we want to own. Not having to have a dedicated DevOps and security officer to manage the client infrastructure layer saves us time and money, allowing us to focus on our core strengths.

  ### 22. Great website deployment workflow and top-notch personal service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mathias B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh's technology allows you to deploy your website quickly. Running copies of the site in multiple environments allows near-live testing, which reduces downtime and increases quality. Their "deploy on Friday" slogan is true. You won't look back.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I'm missing the possibility to use automated provisioning. If a site needs more resources due to a spike in traffic I have to manually upgrade the plan.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rapid deployment and multiple testing environments means sites means our deployment and testing workflow has improved. There is also a cost benefit over other services, where Platform.sh seems to require less effort to do more.

  ### 23. Just works, no hassle

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David F. | Architecte Web, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform cli tool includes lot of useful commands, including access to ssh, drush, etc. Also Slack support is very very effective : Ask a question there and ~30 seconds later you get to discuss directly with senior devs and well known characters of the open source (and Drupal) community. I was never ever let down.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There is currently no easy way to configure a regular automated backup

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Out-of-the-box working and configured production environement for Drupal. Git push, boom your site is live. No more never-ending discussions with uncommited hoster ticketing crew or email hell chains.

  ### 24. More than hosting. A platform we can build our business strategy on.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darren F. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh is a platform as a service which allows us to consistently build and iterate on. By standardising on Platform.sh we are able to context-switch between projects much more easily than before. Deployments are now an absolute breeze and we've been able to build internal business infrastructure on top of Platform.sh workflows which allow us to innovate quickly for our clients.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Platform.sh doesn't have the most consistent uptime unless you use the enterprise plan which can cause issues. Recently, the uptime has been much more stable and consistent.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to innovate much more quickly and roll out changes and fixes to websites for our clients. The process is much quicker than previously using other hosting services. Platform.sh brings a whole platform and wraparound service regarding deployments.

  ### 25. So far so good!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew F. | Senior Web & Interactive Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Fantastic performance and helpful support from people who know what they're doing. I'm very pleased with the speed and stability of platform.sh, and any support questions I've had have been quickly addressed by support staff, many of whom have Drupal community credibility.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The learning curve when getting started is a little steep, but once you get up to speed with the way it works it all makes sense. It's confusing at first when you're not used to it.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

A great Drupal hosting platform, so far.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting a Drupal 7 site on a stable and affordable platform. I migrated the site away from a competitor that was growing too expensive for what they were offering. Platform.sh offers a much better value for me as a developer.

  ### 26. Secure and easy to develop on

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Razvan-Alexandru M. | Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Just the right amount of control. Keeps you safe from yourself whilst letting you do your thing. Great support, pretty good documentation.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

It takes a while to get used to the restrictions and learn how to work around them.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Check the documentation, get on the slack support channel. Great community, ready to help.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CI/CD. Real easy to spin up new development branches.
Realized how much time I was wasting before trying to set up a new environment. I used to have scripts, but they still required plenty of manual changes, vhosts and such. So much easier to just click "activate".

  ### 27. I platform to take your Drupal sites to another level

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

It's fast, Drupal runs smooth.
It's easy to start developing and the most impressive feature in my opinion is how deployments work. A simple commit/push to Platform does all the things necessary to have everything deployed and working.
Branch management is easy and fast as well.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

It's a bit tricky to get the point about local development, but Platform is well documented and it's easy to find the information you need. Now that they have Lando integrated in the local development process this is not a problem anymore.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Drupal web sites development.
The benefits are countless from the perspective of a Drupal developer. The development process is simplified and improved compared to other solutions.

  ### 28. Good service with highly configurable product that can tailored to your needs.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Easy to use and great choice of services

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I haven't found anything that I dislike with the service / product as yet

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Highly reccommended - easy to use and implement. Might advise that some development experience is useful, but not a requirement as the documentation is extensive and detailed in simple to understand language

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using platform.sh to host our Drupal websites. The key benefit of platform.sh to our previous hosting solution is that we can make changes to the hosting environment and appication code, test & deploy quickly. It has significantly decreased the continuous integration piece so making changes to our application has become significantly quicker, facilitate more rapid development.

  ### 29. A flexible and powerful web hosting platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christoph W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Among the various web hosting services, platform.sh is among the most powerful and flexible. Where others have limitations, platform.sh is likely able to accommodate your needs. All the while you still don't manage a complete server, and have none of the associated headaches.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

With great power and flexibility comes a certain amount of complexity, You are not going to just pay for your subscription and then flip a switch. However, it isn't much harder than that, and definitely far less complex than running and managing a full virtual machine.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We became a platofrom.sh partner so that our clients could easily and cost effectively host an API developer portal.

  ### 30. Generally excellent.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Reliable platform, good support, good tools, good security and rapid deployment. Everything you want, at a reasonable price.

The partner program is good too.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Not much. They had some teething issues a couple of years ago but these have improved (support and downtime were the main ones).

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

You do need good developers who can properly use the console and GIT.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast deployment, reliable service and reasonable cost.

  ### 31. Aaron Porter made me do this

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Makes DevOps stupid easy. Great push to GitHub -> PR environments -> build/test -> merge flow that is very customizable. Awesome that you can run all kinds of projects.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

More outages than I would prefer. Sometimes the dashboard/project i am working for does not load. Some build problems require manual intervention by Platform.sh staff and that is problematic because support can be slow.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

If you have moderate DevOps skills, run projects using more than a few frameworks and are looking for one WebOps platform to rule them all then probably should just use Platform.sh

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Standardizing our DevOps flow and hosting onto a single platform.

  ### 32. Great flexible PaaS hosting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh is super flexible and can be modified to fit most needs. Its git-based workflow is really easy to use and I can get things deployed with just a commit which is super awesome! It has a build process in the deployment so you don't need to use a 3rd service like CircleCI, Travis, or Jenkins to build your app. It's supports a variety of programming languages and services. It's particularly useful to have this flexibility as the modern web becomes less monolithic so you can provision only the resources you need. By having a lean app, we've found our costs are a fair amount less than the competition (Acquia and Pantheon). The flexibility has meant elements of our site that didn't work on Pantheon work again — hurray! A year or so ago they have improved their UI and it's made a huge difference to the usability and navigation of your site's dashboard.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The support and documentation although much better than it used to be, is still pretty lacklustre. I always go to the docs first but I often struggle to find or understand the answers they provide. When I need to create a ticket, I often find that their support personnel are slow to respond to anything that isn't critical and once they've responded initially the replies are even slower. They also often defer issues on to you (saying it's an app/code issue or you need to upgrade) rather than help solve the issue where it might be how code is interacting with the infrastructure. Having come from Acquia there is a lot of room from improvement here. There are a few other niggles, it's very sysadmin/devops based if you've never managed a server before it can be quite a daunting learning curve. The git-based deploys aren't useful for built SSRs as you can't trigger a build via a webhook or API (a la Netlify). Finally, it requires management from your end implement a caching level and monitor resources usages such as disk usage.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Go with it! you won't regret it!

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I started building out a bespoke Docker/Kubernetes setup. I found that Platform.sh provided the majority of the features for a fraction of the setup.

  ### 33. Flexible platform from a passionate team

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The platform is very flexible and we always get good support when we ask for it.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Would love to see more tooling around logging and reporting at tiers below enterprise.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've migrated a large number of clients to Platform.sh including a range of CMSs, e-commerce, and both simple and complex applications. Platform.sh is allowing us to provide a staged and predictable migration for many of our clients.

  ### 34. Very comfortable experience.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric F. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Two things I liked most: the CLI tool and how easy it is to make backups and restore them.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I think it will be great to have a "pay-by-usage" plans, for cases where the client has a tiny budget to spend.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Here at MMDA, we really feel that platform.sh make it easy for us to integrate and deploy our Drupal Applications.

  ### 35. Platform.sh is a great!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Here at mmda it improved a lot our developing process.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Sometimes is not easy to find the documentation that we need.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It improved all the developing process.
Automating the deployment, creating staging environments for each branch.
At MMDA We have several people working on the same project. so it is great have a environment for each task we are working.

  ### 36. With Platform.sh we increased our development efficiency

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ruben T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh allowed our company to grow our development capacity onboarding new distributed teams across the globe. The new teams had an easy onboarding process which minimised the time to actually start working in the projects.

The interface is really friendly and the granular permissions allows to keep users access under control.

Their Enterprise services are impressive and our customers are really satisfied with the infrastructure provided.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

We have some special needs in specific projects which require more control over the infrastructure and external dependencies, something that I expect it will be sorted out in the future.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Give it a try with a small project and measure its effectiveness. You will never go back to your old provider.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are creating Enterprise Digital Experiences for our customers.

The benefits experienced are a fast and reliable infrastructure that both our customers and developers love.

  ### 37. Workflows!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gerrit B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The best part of Platform.sh is workflow capabilities. This has allowed us to iterate faster than we ever have before. Having multiple dev environments created from Git branches is really great.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Not being able to sync data from one environment to the next via the dashboard. This would be handly to sync the dev environments with production more easily for not so high-level users.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

I would recommend test driving Platform.sh first before any commitments are made. Depending on the type of application, Platform.sh may be able to give you some extra resources for the testing phase if you contact them first.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Server maintenance, hosting, scalability

  ### 38. A service that makes sense

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** João S. | Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

How easy to use it is. Everything on platform makes sense, the UI on their dashboard is clean and the cli is very well done.
Its all you want from a service, something that makes your life easy.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There isn't anything I dislike on platform.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Do the trial if you are in doubt, it is great.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting. We need CI and multiple environments. Sometimes we need environments to test a single branch and platform makes it easy to create new. Their support is done via slack which makes everything better too. Cheers to Felipe!

  ### 39. Helpful, powerful, useful.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeffrey A. "jam" M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh's support staff were very helpful when I was setting up my initial project on their hosting. The fact that they run a wide variety of technologies seems promising for the future.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Lack of a linked/dedicated local development environment.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Plaform.sh covers my current needs in web hosting. I am not a very sophisticated client, but they keep my infrastructure up and running reliably.

  ### 40. With love from Colombia

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Dadabase sync is a wonderful feature, they support many different services and languages, also they are one of the very few that support Lisp!

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Their prices are not competitive for a market like Colombia.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Read the official documentation in detail, many answers are already provided there.

They are multi-cloud, they support AWS, GCP, Azure, Orange, etc ... in my experience AWS is the most reliable of those.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly having infrastructure as code and flexible build/deploy/post-deploy hooks is allowing me to achieve super-fast results, a team as small as just one person can be in charge of handling the whole process with easy and confidence, from development to production.

In term of security I feel they're doing a very good job, application containers are read-only by default and everything must be run as non-root user.

  ### 41. No sysop needed anymore! Good service, excellent support. Developer friendly.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mathias H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2020

Could have better logging features if deployment fails.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

You got a free trial and a great support.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

provided a best-practice deployment service for drupal projects.

allowed me to focus more time on software eng rather than dev ops or sre.

allowed me to smoothly pass off projects to a customer & allow them to host on their own account but let our agency work on the project as needed.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

buggy interface, but they were responsive in fixing bugs.

at this point i've just moved on to using terraform.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

i used platform.sh when i ran a design and development agency. it provided a heroku-esque workflow but with nice specific features that made it smoother for drupal CMS deployements.

the ability to manage access and ownership amongst clients was a big benefit - this is still a nice feature i guess!

  ### 44. This PaaS solution helped us to propose cutting-edge applications to our clients

The fact that not all of the languages are supported, but they are adding more and more.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Contact the team, they'll be happy to help

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before, it took 3 months to build a hosting environnement. Now it's few days, and even few hours.
We have a hosting team internally but they are not devOps or cloud ready. With PSH we can now work on web solutions that we can deploy automatically in one click so our client can have their solution as soon as they want.

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Creating ruby web applications (or any other) with both front end and back end environments can be a nightmare when deploying to production. I am a team of 1 and love that I can rely on Platform.sh and its team to do all the heavy lifting while my web app is in production, Security , back ups spin up a new
feature branch in seconds to try new things.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Don't like that its not on everyone's radar, Great support team however not many submissions on sites like stack overflow and Medium to refer to

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I able to have a secure branch for staging and testing before merging to my master/live site. And when it does it identical.

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh is one of the most innovative cloud hosting providers dedicated to Drupal. Beside their amazing coverage for Drupal, they do a fantastic job at supporting the community through in-kind sponsorship (hosting) as well as $$$ to the Drupal Association. They are a true member of the Drupal community.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I wish they got working a business model for the amazing Drupal Commerce back a few years ago.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting, CI/CD for Drupal projects.

  ### 49. Deploy on Fridays - yes, it can be done

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alan B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform's CLI tool is an excellent piece of kit, that we rely heavily on as part of our CI process.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There could be better monitoring tools available. We need group functionality too to allow easier management of developers across multiple projects.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing servers. It's a bit of fun up until a certain level, and then its just pain. Pain that belongs to Platform now.
We can focus on the Application Layer now

  ### 50. Great experience and service

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

So far, we didn't have major issues besides some limitations regarding the variety/flexibility of services.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The highlights are definitely regarding DevOps and support level.
