Great for learning something about linux server. Cost is more expensive then whats it says on the tin. Despite next to no usage the average monthly bill is $15 to $20 event on the lowest tier package. Poor support **Recommendations to others considering UpCloud:** Ask yourself do you really need it? Can you use a CDN instead like Cloudflare instead to improve performance **What problems is UpCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?** I wanted the fastest possible VPS. Sadly, I found it rather disappointing. A slower web host or VPS server with Cloudflare performs far better with top web performance. ### 3. Their MaxIOPS technology really rocks (both disk and network). Compared to everything else we've tried the UpCloud instances are super snappy. We switched out from AWS/DigitalOcean after we had run a number of tests to verify the claims. They are a very friendly bunch as well and we love that they aren't a large mega-corp. **What do you dislike about UpCloud?** We haven't really found much not to like. The dashboard is very easy to use, the servers are easy to provision, and we can understand the billing (which is more than we can say for many others). If I had to come up with something - I dunno, maybe a better way to create servers in bulk. They are doing good as far as we are concerned. **Recommendations to others considering UpCloud:** Don't hesitate to give them a go, and you're more than welcome to talk to me if you have any questions. **What problems is UpCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are a startup developing a very high performance distributed compute platform and need to be able to run tests on close to bare metal cloud instances. Finding UpCloud has saved us a lot of money since nobody else offers things like 20 CPU instances and very fast I/O for any reasonable sum of money. It's been a big deal for us and we have been very pleased with our experience. ### 5. Excellent performance. User friendly L3 firewall makes managing filtering rules a joy. Customer service is quick and friendly. **What do you dislike about UpCloud?** Web console, while rarely needed, could use a makeover, typing special characters doesn't seem to work very well. Billing reports are very detailed but could be easier to read, e.g. per server summaries would be nice. **Recommendations to others considering UpCloud:** If you're looking for ease of use, high performance and mostly static capacity (scaling servers is possible but not on-the-fly), you should definitely try UpCloud. **What problems is UpCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using UpCloud to serve some of our internal infrastructure services and to host test and production environments for various customer projects. Pricing and ease of use beats competition when we need mostly static capacity. ### 7. We love UpCloud! This is a kind of service that once you use it, you always compare others to UpCloud. We've tried DO, Vultr, Linode they are all good but UC is simply the best. Dedicated resources make environment production ready. Many similar VPS providers use vCPU resources or shared resources, which isn't ok for serious production environments. This environment allows running systems with half of the memory (or less) compared to many other providers. Because there's no such need for huge disk cache due slow storage access. **What do you dislike about UpCloud?** The additional 1.5x pricing factor for Helsinki data center. **Recommendations to others considering UpCloud:** Free trial, try it out. The well documented api. The very nice sales team, that will do anything to get you setup with all your needs. The uptime, During the more than one hundred days that we've tested upcloud, we had 0 downtime, an 100% uptime, on all our servers. **What do you dislike about UpCloud?** The invoicing is So complicated when compared to digital ocean or linode, Their pricing model are more like amazon then a cloud server company. The Billing method is Prepaid, with a very scary email sent almost daily. Something like, Your balance will serve you for 8 days then will terminate your servers.. VERY SCARY. Besides the very hard to understand billing model, Its an AWESOME company, with a great future. The support only works on helsinky hours, witch are very different from my timezone. **Recommendations to others considering UpCloud:** Its an awesome service, Very fair pricing and definitely has a great future up ahead. Servers spin up quickly with up-to-date pre-configured OS disk images. MaxIOPS for storage is absolutely terrific for its incredible speed. **What do you dislike about UpCloud?** Currently, you can't change the routing on the IP addresses. There's no way to migrate an IP address you're using to a different VPS instance. I also wish there was a way to pay via invoice instead of credit card. **Recommendations to others considering UpCloud:** Try Upcloud's freely scalable instances and you'll fall in love.
