  ### 17. Unity for Web Games

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis D. | Associate Agency Operations Representative, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Unity?**

I wanted to write up a small review from the perspective of someone who uses Unity mainly for creating web games. With a background in Flash games in years past, in that respect, Unity's felt like the most natural "next Flash". It features many more out-of-the-box features than Flash did for game development (i.e. tools for 2D and 3D dev, great compatibility with existing visual design tools and IDEs, nuanced debugging and performance tools), and the vast number of platforms it can be ported to is impressive. Also, Unity's support for multiple coding languages is appreciated! Lastly, while it wouldn't be used much in the realm of web games, Unity's support for the latest in graphics tech (i.e. ray tracing) is appreciated.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

For someone transitioning from simpler tools like Flash, Unity can be daunting. There are many, many more options to consider, and the tools at your disposal may not make sense at first (i.e. understanding why there's one tool called an Animator, and one called Animation Controller). 2 major additional sources of frustration from a person with a background in Flash are A) Unity's lack of support for vectors, and B) Unity's lack of compatibility with previous versions. Regarding A, especially for 2D development, it can be difficult to adjust from the crisp, naturally clean graphics of vectors to needing to accommodate different filtering techniques, texture sizes, texture sheets, etc. for Unity's raster-dependent visual tools. For B, one of Flash's greatest strengths was being confident that a 10+ year old .fla would still be compatible with the newest version of Flash (at least until CS5.5 stepped in!). With Unity, unfortunately, I've re-opened projects only a few months old in new versions of Unity and run into compatibility errors. Lastly, even after making optimizations, Unity's in-browser games often run poorly.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Take some time to consider your needs! My own experience is that Unity is one of the best tools on the market if you're looking for something to make small-scale games like in the days of Flash, yet still want to kick things up a notch (although there are other options as well, like Godot engine). If you're looking for cutting-edge content, Unreal might be a better choice.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For my personal use, Unity has largely served as a replacement for Flash in terms of web game development. Flash has been scrubbed from the internet for years now (save for preservation efforts like Ruffle), while Unity adapts to modern toolsets, like HTML5.

  ### 18. One of the coolest gaming engine to get your hands on

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikunj S. | Unity VR Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Its user interface is very good, which helps a lot when you are in the early stage of learning. C# support is very good as it is a good language to learn. They are literally releasing new versions every month with bug fixing and new features.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

The graphics quality and rendering pipeline are of less quality as compared to Unreal Engine. Visual Scripting is not that much good as expected. And their particle effects is also okaish.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a VR developer, Unity is the engine I love to use as it provides so many different sdks. Also with their own XR Interaction, they are combining different headsets with same input.

  ### 32. It's a good program that offers you all the tools to make games.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jasper s. | Character Animator , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Unity?**

A huge number of features and capabilities make Unity one of the best tools for game development, and it is even better than that in other areas. As a result of the direct connection with Unity's own asset store, it is much easier to identify and utilize third-party assets, which means you will spend less time searching for anything that can be used for your project and will save time during development.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

The learning curve is quite high, and it will take time and effort to truly understand how to use each of the features and modules to their fullest potential. Because tutorials are not always up to date with the most recent versions of Unity, you'll have to spend even more time searching for external manuals for your specific version of the software, which will take even longer.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

This allows you to discover new features and make your life easier.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Unity is a fantastic and extremely powerful program. It's extremely adaptable, owing to the asset shop, which allows you to purchase and download scripts that can significantly reduce the amount of time spent developing. It is, on the other hand, a difficult instrument to master. ### 34. I personally don't like unity, its still far behind from unreal engine.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Garvit G. | 3D Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2022

**What do you like best about Unity?**

It is not very complex and much easier to use as compared to unreal. Most of the indie developers still use unity for development which makes it a industry standard.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Unity is boring. Its interface is boring. It doesn't have a proper PBR pipeline, realtime rendering is not that good. The lighting is not that great. Maybe a unity expert can do all those but it is not for everyone.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

If you are starting game development, I will say go for unreal if you have the dedication to learn that.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to develop some AR/VR content, the clients are happy with the current output it has given.

  ### 38. Unity for game development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tigran M. | Java Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

it's comfortable to make games for mobile and pc for every popular operating system. There is a big community of unity developers, whose can help you solve any problem

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

in my experience with unity, I fined some uncomfortable things, that unity graphic part is less realistic than his competitor's unreal engine. I don't like how realized the new input system.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Learn such frameworks like zenject, uniRX, unitask

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I actually wrote business applications, which is metaverse and I find out that unity is too comfortable and has a lot of plugins that can help you to solve many issues.

  ### 39. Development usage of Unity3D Engine

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Naveen S. | Lead Unity Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Unity3d is a cross-platform gaming engine that helps to create 2D and 3D games. It comprises several inbuilt game-specific features So we can develop game software quickly.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

The quality of graphics is not excellent just like in Unreal Engine .So if it works on these aspects then no other software can beat this. But still many AAA studio works on it.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are several use cases we can do with Unity3d. From Mobile Game Development to AR/VR content creation. We can also do some simulation-based projects in it.

  ### 40. Great Game Engine for Anyone

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Unity?**

The fact that the engine is free and easy to learn is incredible. There are many assets you can download for free or for a price that will increase your performance of a project as well.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Although the updates are free, sometimes there are drastic enough changes from one version to the next to cause headaches. Whether that be with what you initially have in for content or trying to utilize assets from the online store, some assets only work for specific versions, and even though they seem like they are compatible but may throw errors in making the current project unusable until fixes.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

If you are starting and want to build a game, Unity is a great choice to start.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Building a game from scratch was always something I wanted to do, and this engine makes it possible. The number of tools that come with this program is insane and sometimes easy to forget.

  ### 41. Unity "Most popular Game Engine"

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Murpy S. | Game Programmer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2022

**What do you like best about Unity?**

what I like about Unity is that it is easy to learn because there is a lot of documentation available on the internet, unity is the first game engine that I learned, from here I like game development

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

What I don't like about Unity is when I change the version of Unity, my project often has errors and I have to migrate (fix bugs) one by one. Sometimes there is a Unity package manager from a third party that doesn't support it

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

If you want to learn to make games, especially 3D, don't hesitate to choose Unity, because there are lots of tutorials and documentation

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

from unity I was able to complete my first project in 3 months, this is because of the large amount of documentation and tutorials available

  ### 42. Create your stories and bring them to life

**What do you like best about Unity?**

I like the price point - that you can start for free and advance as you learn.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

You would need a good computer, preferably with a graphics card.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can bring stories to life with Unity. Make great games and compile them for several devices.

  ### 43. Great for a beginner VR developer!!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph S. | Product Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Unity?**

I like how easy and affordable Unity makes game development for rookie developers. I have 0 experience in game development but Unity has made it an absolute breeze and joy to learn. I have been very interested in VR my entire life, and only recently I decided to start playing around on Unity with my Oculus Quest. There were so many free resources online to help me and the tool itself is very beginner friendly that I never felt overwhelmed. I think what Unity is doing is great, and if you want to learn VR development specifically it's the only engine you should use.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

It is a bit slow on my computer sometimes, not sure if this is due to the software or my own computer. I am using a 2019 macbook pro so I think the software itself is a bit sluggish. Other than that I don't dislike anything yet.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

There is a wealth of information, tutorials, videos, and tips online for developing in Unity. I reccomend anyone who is serious about Unity development to leverage this.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

VR game development. I have realized that anyone can do it if you put in the time and use this game engine.

  ### 44. An accessible, flexible & extensible powerhouse of a game engine!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew H. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Unity has the single largest userbase of any game engine, almost half a million active developers, which means any problem you run into, is almost certain to have a solution because someone else has probably run into it before. Add to that the intuitive UI and massive array of free and paid assets and you can make almost any type of game imaginable with Unity. This is why I'm using the engine on my own solo indie game dev projects. The results possible with Unity are simply staggering.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

While some of the weak spots in comparison to the Unreal Engine like absence of a built-in visual scripting system have now been addressed (Hello, ''Bolt' scripting!) other things continue to require paid assets, there are a plethora of them but the cost does add up if you are trying to attain anything approaching AAA quality in the engine. That said, a lot of them were well worth it, so I am not really too upset. I will note that Unity has had a fairly slow and glitchy string of lighting systems over time, they've kept trying to improve things but it is still not all there. Maybe if they have any sense they'll acquire NGSS2 and Bakery as those are two of the best paid assets ccurrently filling the void left by the frequently problematic and not yet full-featured built in lighting and shadow system.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love that in Unity you can figure out a way to make the engine do things that you might think initially it was not designed to be specifically able to do! I have a very niche and experimental game design use case, a 360-degree panoramic framework for first-person view exploration within dozens of miniature-art handcrafted game environments, a weird style and again, a very niche use case, specific to the project I was working on, yet I was able to throw a proof of concept together for interactions surprisingly quickly in the Unity engine, an engine that hypes both 2d and 3d development but which can be made to do nearly anything you might want to do with a game, assuming you are willing to put the relevant work in.

  ### 45. One of the best engines in the market to develop indie games

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sanchit S. | Training Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Unity?**

One of the best features of Unity is its ability to port to any platform be it iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Playstation, etc
The community is great and you can find all answers to your bugs on forums, it is a complete tool to make and maintain live ops games as well.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

There are no particular downsides as such, if I have to then maybe, its lighting & graphics can be improved to match up for unreal engine 5.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have developed Bladers Multiplayer, which has crossed more than 500k+ downloads on PlayStore & everything was developed inside Unity, I use almost every Unity service like, cloud content delivery, collaborate, plastic scm, remote config, monetisation, etc and I have to say that I am satisfied and my whole game development business runs because tool like Unity is readily available.

  ### 46. To create amazing 2D and 3D game for cross platform s

Provide editor and used interface to create game. Provide lots of usfull features and packages like scriptable objects, assets store to get amazing assets to use in your game.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

There is some UI components related issues. Mostly related to scrollview and Text. But in unity store has different packages to solve some issues. Like Text mesh pro for text.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To create cross platform game I use this game engine. You just need to code once and can place on lots of platform like mobile game android/ios, pc, html 5 game for browser.

  ### 47. Big claims giant pitfalls

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shane K. | Influencer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Of course, it having a free option is a giant boon, and it is relatively easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

There is a lot to unpack here, so for starters, lighting is terrible, and if you are building an MMO you become plagued with issues as you do not have access to the back end of the software unless you pay a lot for it anytime they do an update it will break your older content that you then have to go back and fix so with every update you are wasting time to go back and then fix everything that broke there are also constant issues when saving builds it will crash constantly. You will have to kick off your build again.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I ended up switching to unreal I was unable to solve any of my issues from an engine before that, so there was no real benefit for me in using unity.

  ### 48. Game Developer

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

The only thing unity lacks is stablization while the old versions are becoming stable but the latest release versions are not as stable. Unity also has a minor learning curve where in starting a persons needs some help but once used to it the game making process is fairly easy.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Anyone looking for a beginners game engine

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been using unity for a long time for building all sorts of game for computers as well as android and ios devices. Unity is fairly easy and the price is also convinient. Unity provides a great community which makes it very easy to find solutions to some issues which are a blocker.unity makes it very easy to publish games on app store or pc clients and can help in earning through ads initially.
