## Umbraco Reviews
  ### 1. Great tool for editor experience

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

That backoffice using modern framework, however it come with caveats such as slowness and missing features and extremely bugged experience...

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Nucache, Examine, lock down abstractions, Releasing unstable production releases, Realease cycle, Broken new backoffice, slow backoffice

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clients projects. Main benefit is stable plaftorm.

**Official Response from Niels Laursen:**

> Hi,
Thank you for your review! We’re happy to hear that the shift from Angular to modern web components has been useful for you.

You’re right, the first release of the backoffice in Umbraco 14 wasn’t feature-complete. This early release was mainly aimed at package developers building extensions for the backoffice, and agencies with external packages on top of it.

Our goal was to give enough time to get familiar with the new backoffice so the solutions would be ready for the next Long-Term Supported version of Umbraco (Umbraco 17). We’re sorry to hear you experienced some bugs with the early edition, and we’ve definitely also learned a few lessons about communication during this project.

On the technical side, NuCache has been replaced with .NET’s HybridCache in Umbraco 15, and we’re about to release a search abstraction layer that will make it easier to replace Examine with your preferred search provider.

Regarding the release cycle, we offer multiple options:
Standard-Term Supported versions — updated every 6 months, perfect for those eager to get the latest features and improvements regularly.
Long-Term Supported versions — released every 2 years, ideal for those who prefer a more stable environment with less frequent updates.
We appreciate your feedback. It helps us keep improving Umbraco

  ### 2. lack of trust

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yann L. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

The approach is good in theory. It is easy enough for a user with no knowledge to use as long as the developer has configured the interface very well. The main advantage is to have a Microsoft solution.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

- There is a problem with the refreshment of the elements during ajax calls. It happens too often that the data in the left menu is not up to date.
-> Solution: reload data after call ajax

- The fact that a page generation crashes because of a single error in the page, it generates a 500 error and all logs. This is not serious for a professional site.
-> Solution: manage the error and don't stop the generation of the page + display a warning on the backend

- The fact of nesting elements within elements is a good approach, but it goes too far when you need a wide gamer screen in order to work on the site.
-> Solution: rethink the nesting system in order to have a maximum level, even if it means starting again with nesting in a modal or other.

- The cache is a recurring problem, too, frontend/backend

- For everyday use, we do miles of scrolling for not much.
-> Solution: either to be able to parameterize the fields that you want or not, or to propose a more condensed display.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco solves a number of problems related to content management, especially for organizations with complex websites or those that require custom functionality.
Overall, the benefits of using Umbraco include improved website functionality, greater flexibility, and a user-friendly interface. These benefits can help organizations to better manage their website content, streamline their workflows, and improve their overall online presence.

  ### 3. Umbraco 7 gives more trouble than it's worth

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pontus B. | Fullstack developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

The only advantage is that you could deploy content as well

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Lots of problems, very cryptic error messages, slow deploys, lots of setup

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had to use Umbraco 7 because of a third-party provider, a decision that has cost us a lot of time.
I suppose and hope that newer versions of Umbraco and Umbraco cloud have improved a lot.

**Official Response from Chloé:**

> Hi Pontus, thanks for your review! We're sorry to hear that your Umbraco 7 implementation isn't working for you as well as you hoped. You're right that Umbraco CMS (currently on version 10) and Umbraco Cloud have come a long way since version 7 - our Community has shared that the infrastructure update to ASP.NET Core (currently .NET 6) makes setup and deploy much faster and more streamlined. Keep in mind that Umbraco constantly evolving, in large part based on user feedback, and we always recommend running your site on the newest version.

We know upgrading can be a a large task, especially on older versions, and of course depending on the specific implementation. You're welcome to reach out on contact@umbraco.com if you want help in partnering with an agency that is a good fit. ### 4. Long, tedious, and overwhelming underwhelming.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

It works only for a very one dimensional business. As soon as you try and create multiple profiles there are no tools in place to make it easy for you to push content live across those channels in one single action.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I wasted countless hours uploading the same content across multiple channels because there were no sophisticated copy and paste tools. It is slow and almost medieval in its lack of ease. This lack of ease didn’t even make for fewer mistakes across channels. It made it worse! More mistakes were made because of the repetitive nature of the process one has to go through when pushing content live on umbraco.

**Recommendations to others considering Umbraco:**

Don’t.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None. Problems were only created.
