Creating letters, such as the tax organizer letter is so cumbersome. There is no preview feature to see what your letter will look like so you need to go out of the feature, go into a return, print preview a client version, and then take note of the changes. It can be extremely difficult to reach support when you cannot figure out the answer to your question online. There have been times when I have had to reach out more than twice to have someone call or email me back regarding something. Additionally, sometimes the CS Connect tool for receiving acknowledgements that returns have been accepted by the IRS can freeze up and requires reopening up the program. The system crashes quite a bit when we use the software in the cloud. Often times, the data reference points get deleted and I have had difficulty proforma-ing clients into the 2017 version of UltraTax. Like any software mistakes are possible and it is ideal that you thoroughly check your work. Knowledge of tax is still necessary as you must check boxes in certain areas for numbers to pull. For example, in the other income section you have to indicate by number code if the income is subject to self employment tax. So must be careful! Not being able to reach technical support or your sales rep when trying to reach them. Also, their sales rep lied when trying to sell us the software.
