"It's My GoTo Editor"
4.5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

I have been using this product since 2009 and it's still the editor I go to when I need to work on HTML, PHP, or just fix a config file. It's especially good on large text files. It handles everything I throw at it. I have it on my Mac and Windows computers. It's the only editor that in my dock/taskbar. I bought a copy of UltraEdit for every member of my team. They are very responsive to questions and have a can-do attitude to fix a problem.

They are always updating the product to incorporate features that make editing easier and faster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

Sometimes the Mac version is a little behind the Windows versions. I use my Mac more and I have to wait for some of the new features which are usually useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"UltraEdit is awesome but beginning to show it's age"
4/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

As far as the actual act of text editing goes, UltraEdit is absolutely fantastic. Far and away the best text editor I've ever used. The macro creation in particular is very useful and was easy for me to get my head around. Additionally printing and font handling are well done, and the editor is available on multiple platforms and subscriptions provide for use on all platforms. The editor exposes all of the usable features in a ribbon interface standard for these kinds of tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

Currently, there's no integration for LSP, which most modern text editors require. I understand that this is likely due to the split between UltraEdit and UltraEdit Studio, but considering it's become a standard feature on other text editors, the absence is conspicuous. Also, it limits the number of installs at any one time to 2. I have more than two machines around my house that I use regularly -- in my workshop, my laptop, my bedroom, the kitchen, etc. A privacy-protection scheme that didn't limit installs would be very useful. The other downside is that although the editor is available for multiple platforms via subscription, lifetime license holders are limited to one platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about UltraEdit?

It is full featured, fast and easy to use. Using Ctags with it makes looking at large code bases really easy. Support is responsive, bugs are fixed quickly. Its extendable, I have 14 user tools integrated with editor:

Php syntax checking, Javascript Lint , a number of Php standards analysis tools , Minifiers , debug helpers etc. I really like the Lists features, I have 12 different categories where I keep notes, examples etc of very frequently used material. I can click on a keyword and hit the appropriate search, band zoom full documentation. It has good code page support, I can switch between UTF-8 and Windows 1252 easily. Macros are easy to create and the forums have at least one guy who does a nice job of helping people out. Thank you mofi! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

I wish I had bought the Ultrastudio version for more source code browsing features etc. I use the linux version, however, the last time I used it I was less than thrilled. I switched to using winscp and putty for doing remote connections. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"There are good editors, great editors, excellent editors and there is Ultraedit"
5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

It is feature rich, it's powerful and it works exactly as expected. IDM's quality put to shame almost everybody, it's the *only* product that I trust to use their beta versions in a production environment. They have replied each enquiry I ever had within a business day and if a bug is discovered and verified they provide a test version usually within no more than two-three business days and the final fix comes in a maintenance release and IDM provides several several of them each year.

I first bought Ultraedit circa 2003 (if i recall correctly) and I haven't look back since. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

That I didn't realize -and it is my fault- until recently that Ultra Compare is offered for free in the basic subscription plan and I had paid upgrade to a competitor product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Ultra Edit is Great"

What do you like best about UltraEdit?

For me the best feature is the ease of use. When needed there are many options for editing viewing code. One of the best Hex viewer/editors around. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

The find search box showing on the side. Have not figured out a way to close it without opening the popup then closing it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about UltraEdit?

I have been using UltraEdit for years and they just keep making it better and better. As I have added different programming languages to my skillset, they have always supported them. This is a code editor, made by code editors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

There isn't anything I don't like. It is my go-to file editor. I can edit just about any type of file. Even hex! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"My favourite text editor"
5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

It's so consistently easy to use. I've used UltraEdit for *so* many years (23+, I think), and it's still recognisable despite the ongoing improvements. IDM clearly listens to users and retains what works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

Not a thing. Occasionally, it doesn't suit me that it retains every note I leave myself in there, but that's on me! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
