UE is my password keeper. It has and AES encryption feature that I use to store sensitive information. **What do you dislike about UltraEdit?** Losing the old menus. Really disliked the transition to ribbons as some keyboard shortcuts got dropped in the process. **What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?** Just password storage and occasional ftp editing. It has been on the market since 1995, which means it has an experienced track record. It is cross-platform and works on Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X in versions for 32-bit and 64-bit processors. Among its most important advantages: - Includes an FTP client to access FTP servers. - Word search and replace tools. - Exclusive toolbar for HTML page editing. - High security by allowing file encryption. - Hexadecimal editor for binary files. - Keyword highlighting with colors for C, C++, Visual Basic, HTML, Java, and Perl languages, which facilitates reading by different members of the development team. - Line counter. - Allows working with multiple files at once through tabs. - Includes a box in the toolbar to search the internet while editing. **What do you dislike about UltraEdit?** - It does not allow online work. - It is not free software. - The trial period is 15 days, after which you have to acquire the license. - Relatively expensive licenses (there are ones for 99 and 179€). **Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:** It is a very comprehensive editor. It doesn't have the charm of open source software and it is also paid, but the truth is that during the trial period, what we see is pleasing us. Try it and decide. **What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?** The only thing the company needs to consider is whether it's really worth buying the license for this editor when there are other much less comprehensive alternatives like Notepad++. Although it is true that if you purchase the license, it includes a technical support and annual maintenance program. ### 7. With it I do of everything and I sure I don't wrong never. **What do you dislike about UltraEdit?** I worked till one moth ago with version 16, now I did upgrade to the version 25: I don't love the new interface with the commands as Ms Office. **What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?** Years ago, was 2007, I have to solve a big problem with a new mailing list: I had to delivery to all costumers of a software, the update of many configuration files. And this, many time. To solve all of it I wrote different macros with Ultraedit. The success was such that again today I use the same procedures. ### 8. UltraEdit let you open remote folders, open tunnels and even run a remote terminal within the program. **What do you dislike about UltraEdit?** No GIT possibilities at the time of this review which is a real deal in today's workflow. The UI although is really nice looking can be overwhelming at first sight. **What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?** Working big projects, commenting and jumping through functions is simple to do with this application, it helps to finish the work fast and clean. ### 12. At work we are somewhat forced to use UltraEdit, but I believe I would prefer a more streamlined editor (Notepad++, Sublime Text) for the vast majority of tasks I use it for. Work pays for our software licenses so this doesn't effect my personal usage, but I believe you can get the same basic features with free software. I don't think I would purchase it myself. I much prefer the look and feel of Sublime Text (particular the color scheme). **Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:** It's a fine text editor if your company is willing to purchase it; otherwise I would look at alternatives. **What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?** I can't go into great detail, but our project involves a large internal website operating under the federal government. As to how I use UltraEdit? General note taking, when I want to quickly edit some code/html without opening a giant IDE, when I want to do some formatting or editing that can be a hassle in Eclipse (regex replace is a good example). ### 17.
