Absolutely not the solution for real contractors **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Chad H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2024 **What do you like best about UDA ConstructionOnline?** UDA has some good things going with how the organize their cost items, groupings, etc. That component works well, as does the methodology of how they create and tabulate selections. I also like how you can include customized overhead / mark up calculations. The "to do" list functionality is pretty nice and allows you to add and track cost impacts. Beyond that, the graphics are ok, but very busy and way to much movement to naviagate efficiently. Our "coach" Win Chandler was incredible, very kind, very helpful, but unfortunately working within the confines of an antiquated system. **What do you dislike about UDA ConstructionOnline?** UDA is an extremely shallow program and by that I mean the following: • Any successful contractor uses a numerical cost coding system. UDA does not. The word "cost code" does appear in their system, but it is useless as I was led to believe and believe me....I pushed against it hard. • There is absolutely NO real method to track real, comitted cost because there is no Purchase Order system. Again, the word "purchase order" is visible in the program but dont let it fool you. It is just a .pdf generator that is basically useless once it is created. If you want this to be in Quick Books, you have to do double entry be cause it DOES NOT SYNC as you would reasonably expect. • IMPORTANT: This programe is mainly driven by Quick Books. This is hugely impactful becuase Quick Books is NOT designed to be a construction managment software. THIS WILL CAUSE YOU AN ACCOUNTING DISASTER of epic proportions. • Since the software is not driven by cost codes, the "linking" that is an OPTION and not even required, will absolutely wreck your job costing and forecasting. • The client invoicing is an utter trainwreck. It is slow, it is extremely cumbersome, you cannot invoice for multiple change orders at one time and they have to be sent individually. This is massively irritating to our clients and it takes FOREVER. • You are extremely limted on reporting. Yes, there ar bunches of "reports" but they are all just .pdf generators and essentially produce useless documents. • After several months of absolute devotion to this program, our bookkeeper essentially gave us a "them or me" ultimatum • We ran 6 jobs through it and included a "collaboration software" cost line for each of the jobs. Every single client asked for a refund on that cost and refused to use it after about 1/3 the way through the project. • While we were using UDA (prior to switching), we loved the idea of their integration with Square Take Off. During our use, it did not integrate as advertised and we kept receiving notifications that "it is a known issue, we are working on it" • It is atrociously expensive • Despite our best efforts, there are no online user groups that we could become a part of for peer conversation • The bid request component is absolutely useless • This is just the start... **What problems is UDA ConstructionOnline solving and how is that benefiting you?** At first, we were so excited about how UDA handled the estimating component of project management. We pushed back heavily on the cost code and tried our level best to embrace their methodology of using "descriptions" instead of cost codes; however, by the time we realized what this was doing and how...It was too late. UDA did not solve anything for us. • Truthfully, the implementation of UDA set my company back almost a year and cost us tens of thousands of dollars in software cost, lost time and recovery time. • MY DECISION TO TAKE MY COMPANY TO UDA CONSTRUCTION ONLINE WAS THE WORST DECISION THAT I HAVE MADE IN THE 10 YEARS SINCE I HAVE STARTED MY BUSINESS. The client portal has really helped in making communications very powerful between us and our clients. We can send emails and get back comments from our clients. We are also able to limit our clients on features that will lead them to higher productivity other than those that are not beneficial to them. **What do you dislike about UDA ConstructionOnline?** I have no negative comments so far since this software is of great impact into our organization. On the other hand, through this system, it is very easy and quick to find the files because it allows you to have different types of important information on a single page and helps us with the organization. ### 17. ConstructionSuite is much more powerful for estimating, building schedules, creating contracts, and setting up a job. ConstructionOnline takes over once the job is underway. Clients are able to log in and see as little or as much information as you want. I like to show them the overview schedule by groups, the contract, the drawings, the contract budget, the draws to date, the change orders(pending and accepted), allowances, and specific daily logs with picture updates. Vendors can log in and also see as little or as much as you want to show them. You can send RFQ's to vendors(I still use csuite for this). You can send RFI's, transmittals, submittals, assign to-do tasks to team members, vendors, or clients. So instead of sending a question as an email and forgetting to followup, a to-do stays on your reminder list until the other person has completed it. It has a great punchlist tool. It is mobile, so PM's can take it into the field. **What do you dislike about UDA ConstructionOnline?** It lacks a lot of the functions I feel are needed from UDA ConstructionSuite. So you need to use Csuite and CSonline in my opinion to get enough functionality. They merge fairly well, but not completely, and not automated. It does not have it's own financial system, it still relies on quickbooks(lousy software). The actual costs are not imported automatically, only when the job estimate is opened.It has no cashflow and earned income reporting. **Recommendations to others considering UDA ConstructionOnline:** Add automated syncing with QB. Also bring up all of the Constructionsuite features so everything can be done with CSonline. **What problems is UDA ConstructionOnline solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeps the field crews up to date. They also get to see where things are at. Did the kitchen cabinets get ordered yet? Check on the latest plan revision. Using the selection sheets for allowanced items are great. Now I set the first selection based on what was used for the allowance, then give the customer choices and the budget costs of each. They can select right online and approve their choices. Change orders are done the same way. ### 18. With Construction Online all these activities are related to any project, sometimes I forgot to include them to a project. It helps me to show to my customers the conditions, prices and advance of the project during the execution bringing transparency to the company. **What do you dislike about UDA ConstructionOnline?** There's nothing to dislike, sometimes I need someone to help on the web relations but is something natural, I just not qualified to do everything around. With construction online the administrative aspects are solve from the proposals to the closure of the contract. Has every aspect of the construction industry involve, includes your own way to make deals, with your game plan. **What problems is UDA ConstructionOnline solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm doing all documentations for a new construction project for Kavac Norte, Garbage Room Project that allows me to present the owners the difference between planning construction and the execution of the construction.
