Tyk is a versatile API gateway that stands out for its open-source version, which includes all the essential features required for modern API management. The advanced authentication options, such as OpenID Connect (OIDC), set it apart from other open-source API gateways like Kong. The extensible plugin architecture allows for customization of Tyk's behavior, and developers can write custom native (golang) and gRPC plugins. Tyk team helped us build a custom oAuth plugin to support some of our API feature teams who don't use typical authentication mechanisms. We have always received excellent technical support from Tyk consultants and valuable insights to alternate solutions whenever required within a reasonable turnaround time. Tyk team have massively influenced how we envisaged our API access control, monitoring and management capabilities and enabled us to build a future-ready, secure and scalable solution with measurable cost benefits compared to our existing gateway and aligns perfectly with our strategic roadmaps. Just a one-off occasion where we had a few issues with inconsistent logs with a new Tyk pump version which impacted our business and had to be rolled back from production.
