"TrueNAS Core - Excellent software"
4.5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

Easy to install and an easy-to-follow Dashboard. Straightforward to install VMs. Great online manual (docs) which help with all aspects of setting up the system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

What don't I like - nothing much to be honest. Software updates don't arrive that often but maybe that's because the software is so robust it doesn't need them?! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A solid and reliable platform that is surprisingly easy to work with."
5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

Clean, simple interface with good documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

Not found any major problems with it yet. Yes, things could always be better, but let's not allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good. And it is good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great all in one home server solution"
4.5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

What I like the best is that it is versatile, with the use of Jails/Containers and virtualisations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

I think the thing that I dislike is more of a me problem. I started with Truenas Core based on FreeBSD and after a while I found out that Truenas Scale is based on Linux and instead of jails and plugins you can run containers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"TrueNAS - like no other"
5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

The scalability of TrueNAS.

The fact that you can use your own hardware to use the OS.

The ZFS file system.

File replication to other TrueNAS systems for backups! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

There is nothing I don't like about TrueNAS, it checks off all the boxes: ZFS, Backup, Scalability, Replication, Snapshots, SMB, ShadowCopies and support. Easily the best NAS decision ever. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"One of the best storage systems I've used"
4/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

TrueNAS is free and open source which is always a plus on the budget side. ZFS is excellent and the interface makes things much easier than rolling your own server, which you could. It also has sane defaults to prevent any major issues from arrising from forgetting to configure a scrub or SMART check. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

There is a lot of tweaking that can be done with TrueNAS and if you aren't aware of the options or how to configure them it can lead to issues or be overwhelming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Solid storage solution"
5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

TrueNAS is a solid solution for storage needs, its pack with solid features such as dataset snapshots, active directory integration, full file permission per dataset. the console is a standard UNIX terminal so no weird cli to fumble thru. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

no option to add small chunks of storage to pool over time, not a limit directly of TrueNas itself but as they only use 1 storage technology there is no option to enable it. However this is a very minor complaint and is really a grasp to call it a complaint. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great hardware and software features"
5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

The TrueNas Mini+ hardware is extremely compact but powerful and quiet. The TrueNas core software has a great UI for management and is loaded with well integrated features. The community support is awesome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

Samba requires running Active Directory where I run OpenLDAP with Samba extensions to support window machines. Upgrades can be risky due to regression - for production machines you need to wait for first patch or two. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy to use and very useful self-host solution for home and SMB"
4.5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

Nice looking and easy-to-use UI. Besides NAS storage, you can spin up some additional services to play around with and also learn about setting up the new self-host app Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

There will be maintenance costs to be expected. You will need to have some knowledge of IT and be ready with the cost of electricity and HDD failure replacement Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"TrueNAS is the best free NAS software!"
5/5
What do you like best about TrueNAS?

TrueNAS utilizing ZFS ensures your data is safe today and years ahead. If my hardware fails, I know I can recover in any other PC with enough drive connectors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TrueNAS?

There is a learning curve with share permissions. But that's been mostly resolved with the revamped SMB model. Set up your admin permissions then do the rest off a Windows PC. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
