Traffic Parrot is self-hosted service virtualization and API mocking for development and test teams and for the AI coding agents they now work with. It simulates the APIs, queues and systems your software depends on, so people and agents can build and test when the real dependency is unavailable, shared, rate-limited or not yet built. A coding agent that cannot reach a backend improvises. It hard-codes a response or rewrites the test until it passes, then reports the code as working. Shared sandboxes were sized for people. One agent burns the quota. Traffic Parrot gives each agent, pipeline and developer its own deterministic backend (512 MB RAM, 200 MB disk): green means tested, red means broken. A built-in MCP server lets Claude Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Cursor, Antigravity or any MCP client work on a running instance: read the mocks it serves and the requests it received, create and update mocks, generate mocks from an OpenAPI file, find endpoints with no mock yet, and re-test loaded mocks against real traffic. Tools that change mocks default to a dry run, the endpoint accepts only the local machine until you configure a token, and generated mocks are schema-validated with remote-code-execution helpers blocked by policy. Mocks are plain files, reviewed in the same pull request as the agent's code. No model inside and no AI service called: you bring the agent and the keys, nothing leaves your network, and security has no new AI vendor to assess. Claude and ChatGPT support assistants, set up by Traffic Parrot, explain features and troubleshoot. Protocols: HTTP and HTTPS (REST, SOAP, GraphQL), gRPC, WebSocket, JMS (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, AMQP 1.0, Azure Service Bus), IBM MQ (JMS and native, 7.5 to 9), Apache Thrift, and file transfers (filesystem, network share, FTP, SFTP) with FIX and SWIFT MT field matching. For the people on the team: record and replay real traffic, or import OpenAPI, Swagger, RAML, AsyncAPI and HAR. Responses can be templated, scripted, stateful and data-driven. Management REST API, Maven and Gradle plugins, Testcontainers module. Runs on a laptop, in CI, or in a container on Kubernetes or OpenShift, in AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. Who uses it: developers, testers and platform teams at global retail banks and financial enterprises, Fortune 500 e-commerce, insurtech and software houses delivering government projects, typically where IBM MQ, JMS or mainframe integrations make test environments scarce and self-hosting is required. Commercials: 14-day free trial. Floating licences priced by licence count and protocols used, with quantity discounts. Quote on request. What it is not: a hosted mocking service, or an AI that writes mocks for you (your agent does; Traffic Parrot checks and serves them). If your dependencies are all public HTTP APIs and a cloud service suits you, a lighter tool may fit better.
