Being open source, and having a strong network of Partners who actually supply the end user, Totara allows you to have everything from a very "vanilla" Learning Management System (which does everything you would expect), through to a highly customised system which can integrate with 3rd party systems. 1) unique open source: Totara is, in my opinion, two of the best open source in the world, but supported by a profitable long-term company and supported by a very strong and extensive network of Totara partners. 2) root in real learning: Totara (Moodle) is, in the beginning, to establish an idea with the university, not corporate compliance training. As a result, its capabilities are much higher than large enterprise LMS solutions. I've been using Totara for six years now. I'm surprised to say that I like the solution more and more every year in a row. I still don't have anything to do with it. The built-in exam tools are perhaps the most powerful, but from a usability point of view, there is room for further improvement. The report is powerful, but again I would like to see more features in this area. Until the recent releases, the UX design of the interface hasn't always been great and has made it challenging to gain traction in terms of user engagement from learners, learning co-ordinators and other users of the site.
