What do you dislike about Toptal? there is no personalized career growth plan, you always have to do the client research for yourself, for example, a good practice is for those who just join to have a professional that helps you find the job that best fits your knowledge, define your correct rate, and also to let you know what you need to learn in order to improve your opportunities and rate, the same should happen when you finish with an engagement. i have to say that a constant while working with toptal is that you are lost without knowing the next steps in the process. For me one of the bisgest issues was they payments i always had the bad luck with some clients that after some time just stop the payments without giving you a reason, normally was a budget issue but they never come clean with that, but with toptal that issue is solved as they take care of defining that with the client upfront. Compare to many other freelancer platforms, the part I like most is I don't need to care about those `chores`, like negotiating the price, I could focus on the work I'm good at, Toptal will handle the others for me. I just came to Toptal for a few months, it was easy for me to find the first job, but I also see some comments on the slack channel that says it's hard to find a job, I'm not sure if it's true. The best things I find on the Toptal platform (as a QA Engineer) are: - hourly rates are dictated by myself, and I am always aware if those are high, I will be less likely able to find the project - working schedule is in my hands - I can pick if I need an hourly job, semi-daily or full-time engagement - there are always active jobs on the Dashboard - independence - personal experience is that Toptal engineers are more skillful than ones that are met on the projects, so there is no limit to how high you can go in the hierarchy (leading roles) - big Slack community - you are always paid for your work, Toptal takes care of the charging part (if, for any reason, the client is late with the payments, or has different payment cycles) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Not that I had ones, but my income increased 3 times since I chose to work only for the Toptal and leave the company environment. It is also improved my learning curve. Thanks to Toptal I've got to put my hands on projects that I've never dreamt of. The experience that's come with that has been instrumental to my career development as a product designer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Toptal? Toptal allows you to charge whatever you'd like, however, they also charge the client a surplus over your hourly rate. This surplus creates a natural limit to what you can realistically charge a client. That being said, they've still managed to provide me with clients who are willing to pay the highest premium for my services the most throughout the years. As Toptal binds the talent to themselves legally, clients can get frustrated about paying an ongoing fee to an intermediary long term and choose to look for talent elsewhere eventually. Toptal allows me to connect with clients who'd otherwise be unavailable to me, especially because of location. Its endorsement gives me credibility, so the client finds it easier to trust a contractor, and its policies give me assurance that I'll definitely get paid in the end. Jobs for me (Go Dev) are always available. If you wait a week, you'll have more choice. 2. Hiring process for gigs is considerably quicker than for a regular paying jobs, even if you have to code a few. Clients trust the Toptal's hiring process. 3. You can work remotely for any type of company all around the world with your own rate a only the hours you prefer. Probably one thing are all the benefits of working directly with a company with a contract, for example vacation days, some bonuses and that kind of stuff.
