TinyURL is one of the original URL shorteners -- and I used to really love it. I depended on it for business and personal use, and I enjoyed the fact that it was free and easy to use. TinyURL is very good for shortening very long URLs into formats that can be used in email, SMS and other purposes. The URL that is generated then can be analyzed for hits vs other URLs. Some environments don't like the formatting of TinyURLs URLs and some IT departments have issues with the security of the platform. So I don't see it used very much anymore. Even if tinyURL does the job, it is hard to know why someone would choose it over some of its more popular competitors (bitly, google url shortener).
